I don’t really want to spend money to unlock the other character slots. Is there any way to unlock them for free? I thought I heard something about unlocking them once you reached a certain level, but I don’t really believe that. Thank you!

No, there’s not. You get 5 to start, and you have to buy the rest. There are occasionally sales, but one just occurred, so it probably won’t be for a while more.

Not sure where you heard this but I dont think you can unlock it without buying the feature from the gem store.

The only way to unlock a Character Slot for free is to exchange in-game Gold for Gems. That is how I purchased all of my extra slots. =)

Dont listen to the guys saying you cant. Theyre wrong. You can use the black lion trading post to change you gold into gems. once you have enough gems, you can use them to unlock another character slot.

I don’t think using gold to gems is technically “free” but allright.

Well, you have to spend time earning the money. It’s not like you get it away as part of a quest.

Even if you did get it as part of a quest, you would have spent time on it.

Free, as in, no RL monies involved, is what is meant by free.

Everything has a cost associated with it, material, opportunity or time. Somebody will have to pay the price anyhow.

So no, it’s not free if we extend the definitions to beyond real world money.

So I can spend days grinding the gold necessary for the gems, OR I can work a fraction of an hour and just buy the gems. I know what ANet and I would do. LOL

Or, some people just play the way they enjoy, and earn enough gold to exchange for the things they want. No grinding necessary! =)

Yeah, working is definitely a better option than spending gold. I’m level 44 and I only have 3-ish gold. I can’t imagine that really amounts to much.

Thats obviously not what OP was asking. He specifically asked if you had to spend money.

once you’re lv80 it becomes MUCH easier to make gold, via dungeons runs and world bosses.
