Is there any legal 3rd-party DPS meter software that I could use to test my builds?

I have tried the DPS golem in LA’s “Special Forces Training Area”, but I’m looking for something a bit more complex that I could use in real PvP situations, apart from the combat log.

Been hearing that some guilds actually use custom 3rd-party DPS meters as a theory crafting tool.

Did a quick forum search and found no topics about it, unless I did it wrong.

Thank you.

That’s weird there was a pretty big topic about this befor. I’m reasonably sure this one was being called legal, and commonly used

There is no such thing as a “legal” DPS meter — ANet will never test every version of any 3rd party tool and declare it “safe to use.”

The best you can hope for is that ANet posts guidelines about the use of DPS meters — which they have and that developers detail the way in which their app is compliant.

Currently, at least two DPS meters have current versions that are claimed by the developers to be fully compliant — you’d have to DL different versions to be out of compliance.

Feel free to message me privately if you need help with finding the specific apps.

I’d suggest that your best bet is arcdps or gw2helper — both of those seem to be developed with a careful eye to following the rules, closely, as set down by anet.

arcdps, by deltaconnect, also seems to have the best integration and relationship with anet, from my outside perspective.

regardless, as Illconceived said, none of them are strictly “legal”, but rather, in the grey area of anet saying that, yes, they will tolerate this, and at the moment they take the view that any non-complaint meter is more an issue of the author than the consumer of the tool.

if you do use one, I’d strongly suggest keeping an eye out for changes to these positions, but … it’s very unlikely, right now, that using either of the two tools I named will lead to an account ban.
