Sorry if I miss something here, and if I may have missed it somewhere else on the forum as the search only gave one result, which had nothing to do with what I am looking for, BUT; can someone please explain the rationale behind a level 18 exotic once you finish the personal story?

I am not sure I am fully grasping this.

It is 6 levels better than any gear you would find with req lvl 18.

As stated above its a gift for a more streamlined experience the second time trough.

It’s to encourage making new characters.

I find it pointless, though, since experience scrolls get you to level 20, and leveling is so fast you barely get to enjoy these ‘leveling’ weapons.

Those ‘leveling’ weapons should not be something you use temporarily at low levels only to discard it soon, but instead something that scales to the player’s level up to level 79, and worth saving for later to use with other characters.

So the lower the minimum level of scaling leveling weapon, the rarer to drop and the more expensive to craft it’ll be. The most expensive leveling weapon would scale to the character’s level from level 0 to 79, while the cheapest would only scale from 69 to 79.

Note that it is an ACCOUNT bound exotic. Designed to be used by multiple characters you level up later. This item is similar to the crafted exotic weapons you can craft every 18 lvls.

Those items have MUCH better stats than the LVL 20 RARE you can craft and I think I used the LVL 8 exotikittenil I crafted a LVL 30 RARE (that had some better stats). Frankly, you don’t need to stat boost but it’s a nice extra.

Leveling is easy and it goes by so fast that for the most part I have masterwork gear on. Some levels it’s better to get some blues and sell them when you are done with them. Other times when you get higher level, you are rewarded more frequently with rares. But I never use exotics to level, even if they are free. You level so fast that you never get to enjoy it. Get them for the skins and then salvage them to save bag space.

I love all these, those are much better stats, as if anyone really gives a crap what your stats are before max level, let along at level 18.

Give me account bound level 10 exotic, though, and I will run all my alts through the personal story so I can deck out a key farmer in that gear.

Considering you can’t even get rares at that level, it is actually about 8-12 levels better than available gear, depending upon the weapon.

Assuming you actually have alts on which using it, it is a cool item…if all of your characters are 80, that’s another matter…

Yeah… kinda my problem. Did the story once back when it was all new and shiny. Did not really find it enthralling enough to do it again. Well, not until I was asked to help a few guildies though and I figured may get the full rewards for it.

Story was still not very… well, gripping, and the strange reward made me pause for a moment.

Ah well, better than a frontal lobotomy.

For a key farmer a level 1 or 2 exotic would be much better.

You can’t do personal story until level 10, so you might as well be keeping level 10 gear.

Doing the story steps was never an issue even while underleveled. The main goal is to level to 10 as quickly as possible. If it is a lv2 item with stats 6 levels above that means your lv2 will be “fully” geared for at least up to lv8. That should make it much easier to plow through lv2-10.

A lv10 with gear equivalent to lv8 should still be able to easily steamroll through lv10 content, especially for an experienced player(or just some consumables for additional stat boost). If you are leveling using crafting then a lv10 version might be more useful.

Not sure what you’re doing to reach level 10, but most people don’t need gear to do it.

Ooops brainfart on my part. Sure you are right. Rares drop beginning with 39 (40?) and then my comment would be making more sense.

Anyway I find it a nice addition but they really, really drop seldom and are totally random. I have a 68ish Hammer and 50ish pistol and one 50ish staff.

Not much use to me as I am only leveling my second Guardian and maybe with HoT finally a Necro ( the only class not leveled to 80 on my acc)

Aside from that I have some mules which are also mesmers and parked in JP for Silver Doublon Chestfarming (lol). I gave them the most kitten armor ever, the lvl 18 crafted leveleling gear Homespun Armor. Which not only makes them the most kitten looking JP Twinks if they ever get attacked they would most handsomely kill their attackers with ease ;-P

Long story short this additions help a lot but are not communicated all too well so players know there is craftable levelling gear + the weapon drops.
