So, I’m new to the game, but wanted to ask what seems like a glaringly obvious problem…so I’m sure there is a super complex reason as to why this can’t/does’t/won’t happen, but thought I would ask anyway

I purchase 20 Green Gloves, all identical, from the TP.
It shows in my TP Inventory as “Items 1” and I click on it, and there is a stack of 20 identical, green, gloves.
I click “Take all”.
I now have used up 20 slots in my inventory.

Why does the personal inventory not allow for that to continue to be a stack?

I came, I saw, I continued watching as I’m a newbie…

Weapons and armor pieces take 1 slot in your inventory. Delivery box is “unlimited”, you can use it as a bank if you don’t pick up items.

Gear just doesn’t stack? Just the way it is, I guess.

Equipment doesn’t stack in inventory thats the only reason really. They show up as a stack in the TP window because you bought them in 1 ‘transaction’. As the inventory can’t hold stacks of equipment, only utility stuff and materials, they get split up.

I think the default/ideal from Anet’s perspective is that all equipment is unique pieces which don’t stack – the way they work in the inventory.

The only reason they’re combined on the TP is that the intention there is that it’s a unified market – so instead of having 2,000 separate listings for each item, all with different prices, you have 1 listing per item with only the highest buy price and lowest sell price offered. This makes searching simpler and reduces the risk of being scammed, or simply over-charged and that functionality is more important to them than retaining the idea that each bit of gear is a unique item.

Ok, thanks all. I was fairly certain the whole “you are carrying a piece of armour, so it therefore takes up one space” argument would be the one – but just wanted to make sure.

So would people in general find it beneficial to have the ability to stack the same items inside their inventory? Maybe a special purchase like the cross account slot/tab?

I see people talking about buying 200-300 items to dump in the mystic forge, but I assume they do them in blocks of 40-60 to be able to manage it?

You can have 160 spaces (max 8 bags, each can store 20), so blocks are bigger, but yes, this is how people do it.
