Question about alts and usefulness
The game has become alt-unfriendly lately. You can only do each path of the dungeon once on any of your toon to get the full 60 tokens. In other words, dungeon paths has a daily account bound rewards. The good thing is you don’t get bored playing just one character.

Exotics are not hard to get
Some professions feel quite different from others; elementalist and engineer come to mind
Others may see more pros, or cons.
Only thing I can think of off the top of my head is Ori runs (if you can deal with the repetitiveness every day) since gathering is about the only thing not tied to your account, it’s good easy money if you need it I guess.
You can also get the dragonite from bosses from multiple alts and you can park them at the end of jps. But the main reason for having them is that it is fun to try other classes and it gives you a better understanding of what your teammates can do. It does not take much to lvl and equip them in exotics anyway.
I have lv80s of every class. I enjoy playing most of them but that aside it allows me to better understand what I should be expecting from other people even if I am not rotating through the whole roster every time. I consider that very useful, maybe even an advantage.
It boils down to the following list.
Alts are useful for:
- Knowing how another profession plays and the builds that are available to play for said profession,
- Trying a different role for some of the professions (melee/ranged DPS, support, condition damage),
- Farming various nodes for whatever reason (crafting, selling, hording),
- Having something different to play when you get tired of your main, and
- Having something to keep you busy when you get bored, be it armour that character or get some cosmetic you’ve wanted.
Other than that, alts are kind of useless. Might be more but that’s really all that I can see that alts are worth even leveling for this game. Unless you’re an altoholic. I have a friend who has ~3 of each caster profession, which I’m not even sure why someone would do that, but, hey, it’s their game. They can play how they want.

I guess you can count farming nodes as an advantage but having tried it a couple of times it just feels like a chore if that is the only thing you are doing with a character.
You will be much better play if you learn how to work with other classes, especially with Eles and Necros.
Nodes are characterbound and therefore you can mine the same ori node with every character you have.
Alts are useful in World vs World when your army is lacking mesmers, guardians, etc. Gearing up alts are easy if you play WvW, Badge of Honor is account bound therefore you can exchange them for level 80 weapon and armor exotics. Karma can be acquired in WvW, also before weekly reset sometimes servers do karma trains. For back piece your alt can participate in guild missions for Guild Commendation. The rest of trinkets are available on Trading Post.
