I’m playing mid-level warrior and thinking about which way to go, so after spending some time with build calculator I wonder does the build really matter that much?

Let’s consider greatsword with 5 signets/Deep Strike build. I put 6 trait points into arms, with Deep Strike I have 36% critical chance. With 150% critical damage it transfers to 18% overall damage increase. So after spending half of all trait points I’ve got a bit more damage, which sounds more like “barely visible” then game changer

Or am I wrong?

Until you reach level 80, the build don’t make that much of an impact. But at level 80, ya its a really big deal. For exemple, with the elementalist, the damage modifiers from a build alone (not counting the stats, cooldown reduction, etc) can boost your dmg by 200%+.

Your build will make a massive difference, but it doesn’t become that important until level when you have all the traits and max gear unlocked. For leveling it’s best to just load up on zerk or pvt gear and try to kill things as fast as possible.

Thanks for response

I played with some skill combinations and now the character feels considerable more durable and dealing sufficiently more damage. So I guess it is not as simple as it looks at first glance

Your build will depend more on your play style than anything.

having all the DPS in the world don’t help you if you can’t take 1 hit.

If you are after a build for PvE, have a look at this very extensive guide here. It has multiple builds to choose from:
