Hi, I brought the game back when it was only beta weekends every so often but only played them and not the full game due to general life. I wanted to get back into the game, as I purchased the game back then does that mean that I have heart of thorns or would I now have to purchase that too?

You will need to purchase heart of thorns.

As well as any Living World Episodes you may have missed. Unless, you mean you purchased the game during Heart of Thorns beta weekends. If you purchased the game more than 4 years ago, you would need to buy HoT. If you only purchased less than 2 years ago, you are good to go.

If you did mean you bought the game way back 4+ years ago I would suggest playing without worrying about HOT for now. There is still a lot to do in game without HOT. And who knows by the time the next expansion comes around you may be ready for HOT and you will get it for free if you buy the next expansion.

However sadly no one at this point in time even knows when the next expansion will hit. But it is something to think about. No real rush for HOT yet is all I am saying. Anet have already said when new expansions come out, any before it will also come free with it so this is why I am pointing this out to you for another option.
