Q:
Question about refunds
ArenaNet Communications Manager
A:
Please direct your inquiries about refunds to the Customer Support Team. As others have pointed out in this thread, no player can answer the question of what you’re entitled to. Creating threads with intentionally, aggressively incendiary subject lines (which I have modified here to something neutral) isn’t appropriate, when no one here knows your specific situation nor the refunds to which you may or may not be entitled.

You have to level Masteries in order to both reach the area and to do the raid, so the door to the raid place was never standing open for you to enter on day one.
ANet may give it to you.

wrong… they SPECIFICALLY said in the live stream that the masteries HELP but are NOT required to enter… please watch the stream
You can make a support ticket if you want refund and see what arena net say. No player can answer you question about refund.

Mastery track progression will absolutely be a key part of overcoming encounters. For example, in the first release, you’re going to need to explore the air with gliding and learn a few different ways to interact with mushrooms. On top of the Mastery tracks available at release, each raid release will add more raid-specific Masteries for you to earn.
This part here says you will first need to unlock gliding and mushrooms.
ANet may give it to you.
I suppose in truth that this thread was a wanting for more of an explanation from ANET as to why the false advertising in order to sell preorders… THAT is the response I am looking for… Legally speaking what they did is called bait and switch advertising which is illegal and on that grounds alone they have no right to refuse a refund. That said… I just want an explanation as to why the shady business tactics

You do know people got to the next to last tier in gliding in 6 days of beta right? Unlocking isn’t even really an issue… So getting these masteries might take what a couple weeks? Then a month waiting for the Raid wing. Also doesn’t negate the fact of what they said in the previous release that it would come WITH HoT… People who had been wanting Raids forever preordered like crazy then BOOM sorry you now have to wait a couple months…
August 29th blog post. It’s says, the first one will be will be shortly after launch.

Yep and then Sept 2nd they changed their tune and said it would arrive WITH HoT… point is latest info developers gave was with HoT people preordered then they changed it

In most expansions with Raids, such as WoW, do you start raiding right away or do you need to do the necessary leveling and questing first?

Found the source, but the sentence doesn’t imply raiding will be there on Day 1 to me.

This is just a simple case of buyer beware. When you pre-order, this is the risk you take. You did get to participate in the betas, though, so maybe that makes up for it?

Either he heard wrong or he’s making it up.
As title states… in the previous announcement regarding raids, they stated HoT would come WITH Raids.
Please see https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/designing-challenging-content/
AND I QUOTE-
“Our goal for introducing Raids with the release of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™ is to give players the truly challenging group content you’ve been asking for.”So will there be refunds for the preorder available to those who ordered HoT based upon the false belief that ANET as a company gave us in that statement? I ordered based upon having Raids AVAILABLE at HoT launch as did MANY others… and I am sure that them like myself are completely let down by this information that Raids will be delayed to some time “before the holidays”…
They said 2 weeks… Calm yourself.
Put in a support ticket to Anet and resolve your issues with them. Creating a thread asking your fellow players if you can get a refund is weird.

Please look at my OP… the link is there and I quoted the specific line…
Just like every other MMO with an expansion with raids, they first require you to progress your character before you start raiding. In this game you’ll need to progress the Mastery systems needed and also to reach where the door to the raid is. Presumably the doorway is further into the maps and not immediately accessible even if it was open.
ANet may give it to you.

If you scroll down more on that same link you shared in your original post, you’ll see this:
“We want you guys to be able to enjoy playing the expansion without rushing to max out every Mastery in order to prepare for Raids. For that reason, we’ll be activating the first wing of our first Raid shortly following the release of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns.”
Sorry dude, But this is nothing but you misunderstanding what they wrote.
“For that reason, we’ll be activating the first wing of our first Raid shortly following the release of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns.”
Yes they said this.. However “following the release” does not mean from day 1.
And if you actually read the whole page, you would of seen this
“For that reason, we’ll be activating the first wing of our first Raid shortly following the release of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns.” … In this case.. 2 weeks later… which we have known for ages now.. this isn’t new or un told information.
So they never had any intention of allowing players to access raids from Day 1.
RIP City of Heroes

You might be able to put it down to a poor choice in wording. Raids are coming WITH HoT, but not unlocking on day one.
More to the point, though, is that you wouldn’t want them to. When HoT goes live, there will be problems. It’s safe to say that there will be balance issues as well as bugs galore. If the raids went live on day 1, there’s a very real chance that someone or ones would find a way to cheese the raid and beat it before the bug/imbalance can be fixed. Depending on the nature of such a thing, it might not be considered an exploit, and they’d be allowed to keep whatever rewards they get.
Do you really want THAT to be the way that the raids are first cleared? Do you want those that come later and clear it as intended to get no more than the lucky few that jumped in first and sleazed their way through? Do you want the fame of first clear to go to people that didn’t really earn it?
HoT needs shake-down time before the raids go live to make sure this doesn’t happen. Yes, I know it’s annoying to have to wait even longer to get the content you were promised, but throwing it out on day 1 would be a huge disservice to anyone that’s serious about it.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

But but then you actualy have to read the whole thing thats so mean should be just 1 bullet line

Raids are coming with the release of the expansion. Whether you have access to them at day one of the release or not doesn’t change make that statement false.

He must have asked for and gotten the refund between now and yesterday. That’s the only possible explanation.

Not the only explanation. It is the internet after all.
You guys will complain about anything. Can’t you just be happy we are getting raids? A feature that arena net never had to put into the game in the first place?

Yes it says is HoT will bring raids to GW2. There is no specific mention of a timetable as to when. You’re the one who read into it.
Let’s turn the statement on it’s head. Without Guild Wars2: Heart of Thorns, there won’t be raids. The only thing stated is the requirement of HoT to do raids.
RIP City of Heroes
I thought I saw somewhere that they’ll refund you if you purchased within the last 30 days but don’t quote me on that.
