This is not a suggestion/debate thread, I just want to ask a question from an open world player who doesn’t have to deal with current issues with mf in dungeons.

Knowing that changes to MF will be coming in the future, if I were to long in right now and buy/craft a full set of exotic MF gear, and buy a couple of ascended magic find earrings with guild commendations for the sole purpose of increasing my magic find, would I regret it once these changes are put in place?

Basically, am I going to log in one day and all the magic find gear I have collected over time will no longer be magic find gear?

I am not aware of these plans. Would you care to link the thread; post or article that confirms these upcoming changes? If however you can’t because there is none its just hearsay/ speculation/ guessing and that should have answered your original question.

Some fun ideas in here, we’re also actively discussing ways on how we’d best like to alleviate having to make players choose between having better stats, or using magic find. It’s not a choice that’s great for game play and there isn’t really anything that fun about it, even more so when group composition is taken into account. Ideally we’d also like to keep the ability to slowly build your magic find over time, but doing this at the cost of using better stats isn’t the right way to do that.

No ETA on any changes here, just want to point out we agree there is an issue here that goes against what we want Gw2 to be, and is something we want to address.

The way Colin worded it implies that they’re gonna either add new items or new ways to get the magic find boosts, so it comes down to how much you want it now. We don’t know when these changes will be made or even if it’s within the next year, so it’s all just whether you feel it’s worth the effort, and whether it’s worth the risk.

I would love to wager that by the time MF will get a tuneover I have already finished my scavenger hunt, sitting with Rytlock at the new bonfire in my personalized home instance with seven “hero’s” in short distance at my command in full ascended armour.

“Whose Kitten is this?” – “It’s a Charr baby.”
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

I was just hoping to find out whether current MF gear will be affected negatively by any of the coming changes.

My long term in game plans were to transmute tier 3 on to my current set(which is not mf armor, it’s just zerk armor with runes), and my main set of armor, then get another explorer set and transmute a whisperer/vigil armor combo on to.

But after seeing that post, that has pretty much put most of my plans to a stop, because I’m unsure whether my mf gear will actually be mf gear in the future.

Got some guildies together and (before that announcement was made) decided that it would be a long term investment to start decking our mains out in an alternative set of magic find gear. Even bothered to get the armor box recipes to make it easier on some of the newer players who never touched crafting.

Cause you know, magic find might work right some day. Breaking 200+ MF and only getting a single t6 mat an hour tends to make me believe otherwise.

Now I’m just wondering whether our preparations are going to turn out to be a big waste of time and resources or whether we’ll be rewarded for our patience.

Finally I recalled the stopgap solution of a great princess who was told that the
peasants had no bread and who responded: “Let them eat brioche.”

My guess is they are going to introduce diminishing returns, while also adding new ways to buff yourself with MF, making gear-based MF less productive.

Maybe new guild buffs, banners, or something similar to Sacred 2 Survival Bonus (more MF the longer you stay alive).

I don’t think they will outright remove gear-based MF or make it obsolete. If I was in their design team, I’d just add stuff that will make you want to use other stats instead.

Colin’s post sounds very much like Diablo 3’s Paragon levels(each Paragon level gives you +3% MF, with a cap of 300). In that case no your MF gear will not stop being MF gear but you will/can eventually completely remove all your MF gear without losing any MF.

Personally I might still go make some exotic MF trinkets(already made the MF armor) but I wouldn’t get ascended unless I had nothing better to do with laurels/commendations. The one exception(for you) might be the amulet since it can have the MF infusion as well which can provide a much bigger boost.

The change if it ever arrives is not likely to arrive any time soon. Maybe not even this year. Reading Colin’s post it sounds like they don’t even have the changes planned out yet. Once THAT is done it would need to be implemented then tested and possibly back to planning depending on how the testing goes.

ETA = Eternity as in by the time it gets implemented you will have played so much as to be able to afford the legendary Eternity!

But in all seriousness there are so many players running magic find that Anet won’t change it unless they intend to compensate those who allready invested into getting their gear otherwise there would be a kittenload of complaints.

It doesn’t matter what they do, SOMEONE is going to get upset about it. Maybe a lot of someones.

Make MF useless? People with MF gear get upset. Make MF gear better somehow? People without MF will get upset that the “freeloaders” will get yet another cookie for being a drag on the team. Replace MF with something else entirely, and change existing MF gear to match? You’ll have a bit of both cases, depending on how people view the change.

Sarcasm, delivered with a
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

What I take from that quote is that they might do something similar to utility infusions. maybe add then to all exotics? if laurels remain time-gated, that’s one way to build up magic find over time: you can only buy so many utility infusions per month. then you have the choice between +5 stats or 20% mf. a choice for min/max’ers, but hardly anything even they would complain about when someone joins their party.

I believe you meant “heroes.” Just saying.
