Question of class :]
Well my situation is a little different then yours, I really enjoy the game play. When I started I didn’t join a guild so I soloed most everything on my first character. I had one friend that came with me so when we was on together we would team up.
I started with an Ele for my first character. After learning all the weapon skills for each weapon I picked one that was fun for me and played it to 80. Staff. Now using a staff to solo takes a little work. Your DPS is lower, so is your movement. So you have to learn to dodge and use the environment to your advantage. I had a lot of fun doing it his way.
By the time I joined a guild I had learned my profession pretty well and started running dungeons where I found the staff to be a lot of fun. I learned what the other professions finishers are and then tried to rotate my skills to utilize these finishers. I have a lot of fun doing it. It may not be for everyone, and a lot of other ele’s play differently then me.
But back to you question, now I mainly log in to be around my guildies and just to have fun. I have 3 80’s (Ele, Warrior, Ranger) that I play all the time and I am leveling up a few alts when I feel like doing it.
My question to you is what level have you gotten your different classes to. The reason I ask is because a lot of them don’t really get to be fun until you hit at least level 60.

only into the 30s on most :/ thief/mes/ele/engi :ccccccccccccccccccccccccccc
Its just so bland. You literally do kill quest after kill quest after kill quest. . . .
and the talent trees dont seem to impact you while leveling so its like you cant even see a class potential what-so-ever =/
You want to see class potential? – Go into the mists (the crossed sword symbol) play with builds and gear you have all your traits weapons and slot skills to use at no cost.
About levelling: you can do the living story as it up levels you to 80 and you can gain expereince doing this, you can craft you can also just explore the world, the point of interests, vistas etc, hunt out events don’t just do hearts that would get boring but tbh in any mmo i have yet to find a ’’quest’’ system that isn’t shockingly kitten however the event system in gw2 is very good.
p.s. you can 9/10 solo the living story.
traits (talents) do impact while levelling quite a lot for example the thief will be pretty horrid until you can (imo) get caltrops + the dodge trait then bleed away and its a breeze, also you may say cheese but its one of the hardest classes to play successfully in pve and pvp, ‘’stealth blah blah’’ yeh i know but its highly predictable the ok the bad thief’s in wvw get pummeled i find it VERY rare to find a very good thief (same with engi) and think ‘’hell that was a good fight’’
engineer and mesmer have the most talent (trait) tree options and are two of the hardest classes to truly play at a top level, there is variety look for it with food, traits, wepaons, sigils and runes.
sounds to me though this just is not your game unfortunately
p.s. you can also do fractals from level 1
I enjoy the general gameplay, the story, and I have guildmates that can listen to me complain about everything else. The process of leveling is fun for me.
Guardian might be the class you’re looking for if you’re looking for healing/support. A staff guardian has a bunch of skills to buff and generally help the party. and the virtues, which are the unique class feature for guardians, can be activated to give your allies buffs as well.
I know that for me, the class I ended up making my main was the last class I tried.
For the traits, yeah it’s hard to see the potential for a class you don’t have an idea of what you want to build for, or even don’t like the builds for. I usually don’t even go off a build when I make a character, I find which weapon combination I like to play, and then build my traits to fit that play style instead of adapting my play style to fit my traits. It just takes some know how on what play styles need which traits, even within the same class. A ranger using a 1h sword wants as much toughness as they can get and should trait into that, while a ranger using a shortbow doesn’t need as much toughness but might want condition damage and pet attribute points. I also rarely build a character based on trait skills, I look at what stats the character needs to be effective, and then trait for the stats and pick the skills that best suit my play style from the stats i’ve chosen.
Well, tbh I have all 8 classes and I always clear every map on my characters before even touching the personal storyline so you def DON’T have to touch that to level up. If you don’t like exploring/clearing maps I don’t know what to suggest to lvl up besides camping events or trying some WvW.
Apart from that I dunno have you tried Engineer? A lot of people say they are the most “fun” class I guess because they have a good variety in kits (weapons) so if you ever get bored of having few weapon choices they have a bit more choice than most.
Why not just play games you enjoy?
Have you ever heard of a game called Atlantica Online? That TBS/RPG MMO? I wouldn’t expect many to like the combat and the story is rather pitiful but I’ve been playing it for 3 years on and off and I still enjoy the combat and have made several characters since being introduced to the game.
As for the game itself, it’s not a standard MMO in how its combat plays out. It places much more emphasis on placement, movement and avoidance instead of having a skill with a cooldown you use to make enemy’s attacks miss or do less damage. It’s not as luck/statistical bases like other MMOs where you build up a defense stat so attacks have a % chance of missing, instead you simply move away or out of range of attacks to make them miss 100% and use attacks to move, defend and weaken the opponent.
If anything, it’s RPG combat with a realistic spin.
As for the only having only 20 or so skills, the devs did mention they are diversifying the layout of skills for the professions so there will be more available, but don’t expect to have literally dozens of skills at your disposal at once. That is a balancing nightmare, and streamlining the combat so you can only ‘carry’ a limited amount of skills while in combat is part of the strategy portion of GW2. You pick and choose your utilities/weapons by the situation and you can swap when you exit combat. We’ll be getting more weapons/utilities/skill choices or whatever soon, but yeah, the majority of your keyboard estate should be dedicated to moving your character about, dodging, strafing in conjunction with maneuvering the camera.
