RIP Terry Pratchett
Another thread like this was locked earlier…
you’d almost swear there was some kind of… I don’t know, “social media” where people could post these things instead… what a world we would live in
Maybe you’ll get around to reading forum rules too?
(edited by Tyrannical.9348)
Yes maybe if I am a social media user. I would imagine GW2 players have at least heard of Terry Prachett. Are any of the devs fans?
(edited by Khal Drogo.9631)
I’ve heard of him, read some of the books, and have enough respect to not beg the developers to beg for a memorial like the whole Leonard Nimoy case some weeks ago.
Threads like this don’t serve purpose here I’m afraid. Neither the time nor place.

Fair enough if it contravenes forum rules. Before this thread gets locked and deleted, imagine if Tolkien the grandfather of fantasy was born later and died today, I wonder would all MMO forums be filled with RIP threads or mods having to put in extra time modding threads.
RIP in peace , heard hes awesome
Nothing wrong with this Thread !!
Rest in Peace Terry Pratchett
Thank you for uncountable hours of pure joy, laughter and excitement.
Hope you´ll get along with Albert
We need more JP´s !!
What this person have to do with GW2?
He is to Fantasy what Douglas Adams is to SciFi.
This is a MMO with a FANTASY theme, he should get an effin plaque in game.
Or at least his commemorative threads left in peace and open.
RIP Terry
The turtle moves.

So does that mean we can talk about Lord of the Rings (and Lotro) on this forum? Since it’s kinda the gold standard of Fantasy.
(edited by Deli.1302)
NO because JRR Tolkien is long dead and LOTRO is a different game.
This is a RIP thread, dummy.
A whole different beast than the standard kitten measuring contest.
PEOPLE’S WHOLE LIVES PASS IN FRONT OF THEIR EYES BEFORE THEY DIE. THIS PROCESS IS CALLED ‘LIVING’.
(Death, The Last Continent, Terry Pratchett)
I have read all the Discworld novels and they are the funniest fantasy books I have ever read in my life. So, so sad that he will never write anymore…
I hope DEATH met him personally and did speak in CAPITAL LETTERS, it would have put a smile on his face.
In recent years some of the very best, creative human beings on planet Earth have passed to the other side…we are all diminished as a result, so, so sad…
We can discuss WoW streamers, but not a quick salute to this great author…
“No one remembers the singer, but the song remains.”
Rest in peace, Sir Terry Pratchett. May your spirit live on in your work forevermore.
We can discuss WoW streamers because they started streaming GW2.
No bad words about Terry Pratchett, may he rest in peace, but the GW2 forum is not really the place for the obituary posts of all our favourite authors when they have no relation to GW2.

I am Death, not Taxes. I turn up only once.
RIP you beautiful kitten!
I have no problem with RIP threads. If one of the fantasy novelists I care about were to be moved on to the next life and far away from me I would like to find somewhere to shoulder the burden in my chest. But some peeps go to fantasy games to get away from reality altogether and can’t deal. There’s no solution unless every forum everywhere sets aside a reality thread for things like RIP.
With you in your grief OP.
He is to Fantasy what Douglas Adams is to SciFi.
Then he’s just one of many? If you want to express that he was very important to the fantasy genre, this is not a particularly good comparision.

So, he’s next to Tolkien and Leiber.

Sir Terry, the world you created made this world a much better place to bear . Hopefully the place you are in now also has that skinny mouse to squeak with.
RIP
It was my thread that was locked and I am sorry to say this one will be too.
@frans, no not the same style at all as Tolkein or Leiber, more Mark Twain or Stephan Leakitten (which I am sure will be turned into a kitten can’t see a way around that though)
