Lets have a moment of silence for the zerk……
Ok now thats out of the way. Good riddance. Didn’t much care for the zerker “elitists” mentality that if you didn’t have zerk you were a horrible player and a bad person. Nothing wrong with zerk in and of itself, its just the mentality that bothered me and prompted me to go a different direction with my warrior pre patch.
Your mentality bothers me, Why do you care that I want to do speed runs and I want to play with players that like to also do speed runs, Its the way I want to play, I dont have to play with you and you dont have to play with me, if you want to play with tanks and condition players then you make YOUR OWN LFG and announce no Zerk elitist in the description.
And I will make my own LFG and say, Ping gear, Zerk only, then you know not to play with me.
I don’t care, and thats the point. What I do care about is getting flamed, kicked, insulted, and worse for not playing zerker. I get tired of people saying I’m a horrible player because I refuse to use zerk. Get tired of people saying the way I play is all in my head because I’m not atually doing anything, but “think” I am. And the group of people that think and act this way are largly Zerkers. And I’m not the only one in this boat.
You want to play your way. Fine please do, I won’t get in your way. But don’t hate on me because I want to do something different.
I understand player want to play differently and wouldnt make fun of them for that, but that doesnt stop me from trying to play with zerkers, Its not like I invited you and then told you to go zerk or go home, Im starting the search with, “Please zerk only” and if your a tank/condi and you join then yes you will be kick, not b.c your a tank/condi HONESTLY its b.c you DONT respect the other players wishes.
I don’t join “zerk only” groups. Never have, never will, because I don’t run zerk. Yet I have been kicked from groups that didn’t state they were looking for only zerk because I wasn’t zerk. I’ve started plently of “any welcome” groups, and been insulted and had players try to kick, or rage quit because it wasn’t a zerk party.
Asked and answered.
I hope everybody trashing the zerkers realize that this only affects you if you are into speedrunning. If you don’t care about speedrunning, or have guildies/friends to play with that don’t care about speedrunning, then who cares. If the speedrun groups choose to be extra strict that’s their prerogative.
Zerker groups have never affected me because I don’t speedrun, and if you don’t speedrun then it doesn’t affect you either.
On the flip side it is kinda lame the zerkers that are basically saying if you don’t run zerker you are bad/l2dodge, etc. I can dodge flawlessly and I run my cleric guard most of the time, yea I said it. People can be good at dodging and not wear zerker gear, they just don’t care about efficiency. Plus dodging red circles and telegraphed mob skills IMO requires far less skill than properly dodging in PvP.
Nerf direct damage all you want, it won’t change a single thing until you change the game design. I say that after experimenting again with some of the above builds in dungeons after the patch. I went straight back to direct damage.
Even if the game is changed the meta will simply be something else.
Like full zerker and 1 PVT char with CCs. Or full rampager’s – or something. There will always be a best way to power through the content.
This best way will always be enforced by the people that care about time vs profit.
Let’s stop beating a dead horse already – the zerker meta isn’t about a zerker set – it just appears to be that on the surface.
The “zerker meta” embodies the philosophy of not wanting to waste your time and getting those rewards as fast as possible. No matter how the game changes this kind of thinking will remain in the game – we’ll just call it the " something else meta" and it will still be both loved and hated by different groups of players.

Not if u have lag or animation spam from ele / engineers. And you cant dodge endlessly.
Dodging in PVP? U mean randomly pressing dodge when in a 2 v 1 situation?
P.S And I experience a lot of DCs from the server side in this game.

Everything you say is true. But the “something else meta” would hopefully involve something besides five people with almost the exact same build.
I just think that if A-Net wants to see variety, which is their stated purpose, they should encourage it by changing game-mechanics.
I’ll still auto-kick non-zerkers & rangers
Ran 30+ FotM on zerk war and grd, everything’s fine, dps is top notch etc., not planning to change anything, so no r.i.p.
I used to be an advocate for no holy trinity formula of GW2, but it’s not working, at least not in AN’s interpretation, or you can put it another way, that it’s actually working, just without classic roles and dps is, in the end, the most important factor, after general skill. If they want a variety they will have to introduce healer and tank roles, which they will not, for various reasons. Game will be 2 y.o. soon. Changing game mechanics, while said mechanics, in fact, were stale for the past 1.5 years? Okay.

For some reason Players dont understand this, truer words never more spoken, and THIS games the same for EVERY game.
I love that people actually think zerker is no longer good. In high level fractals or Arah zerkers already needed to learn how to dodge/block/etc almost every attack since everything one shots. Just because we have to dodge a few more times doesn’t make the builds less survivable.
As for other dungeons, some like HOTW or CoE stayed the same difficulty but the rest are even more easy now. In low level dungeons with FGS you just have to blink and the boss is dead. AC for example is just a joke.
So no, gear hasn’t changed. Zerker still rules instanced PvE content.
Berzerker is not gone——
If you are in a dungeon and I am with you I can create 25 continuous stacks of might with 150 empower allies boon.
Your character will still be buffed depending on your stats. Infact with the new phalanx build that I am running, even a 1/2 zerk party still goes faster than full zerk parties for a standard dungeon.

STOP PLS STOP!!! I almost choked to death from laughter.

Wow…just wow.
So instead of finding a new way to play, or a different runset/traits you’re going to be an elitist jerk? Its that attitude that drove me away from zerk to begin with. I think the prevailing attitude about the nerf is positive. Yeah its down from what it is, and we are still adjusting to ALL the changes. Good luck finding a party now that more people are TRYING DIFFERENT THINGS. I can almost guarantee you’ll spend more time looking for your ideal party than it would take to just get over yourself and do the kitten dungeon.Yeah – nah.
You’re the one who’s in the wrong. The smart players have already figured out that zerker is going to be even more enforced from now on and are working towards getting it if they didn’t have it.Other players that are " trying out new builds " might think they’re doing good but in all honesty they’re just trying to find new and inventive ways to get kicked.
As zerker does less damage now so too do other builds. If you want to spend as LITTLE time as possible in those dungeons be prepared to bring zerkers only, since anything else will just result in longer clear times.
Maybe..but not everyone is into speed runs. MANY people run the dungeons because they are fun. I like to occassionally do a complete dungeon clear when I can. It’s fun, which is the point of the game.
many people run berserker gear because its fun.
its fun to get punished for doing mistakes.
its fun to see big damage numbers.
its fun to become better at the game.
its fun to not afk-tank encounters.
its fun to be active all the time.
its fun, which is the point of the game.
and im not going to let scrubs who dont even understand the basics of the game take away my fun.
if you hate berserker gear, if berserker isnt your playstyle,
you are always free to make your own LFG groups and name them “lf tank/healer, faceroll and kill everything”.
just ignore the berserker lfgs.
we ignore your lfgs too.
if you ignored ours to begin with, anet wouldnt have made stupid changes to the game.
and guys please stop calling it “zerk” or “zerker”. it makes you look like you are kittened.

NOBODY HATES YOU FOR DOING SOMETHING DIFFERENT. and if you would actually READ lfg descriptions and not join them when the description doesnt fit your playstyle nobody would every try to flame you or whatever.
1. READ LFGS
2. ONLY JOIN IF IT FITS YOUR PLAYSTYLE.
and you will never be in trouble.
the reason why berserker players will kick people like you even more often now is because you refused to READ lfgs and because people like you were crying on the forums to nerf what means “fun” to us berserker players.

Let the ZERKERS have their fun. Nothing wrong with that. Im just saying dont be a jerk to those who decide to do something different. As ive said multiple time. I dont join zerker groups because I dont meet their needs/requirements. I dont kick those in an open group because they are beserkers. I dont insult them in parties and quit because they are beserkers. In game I generally leave them alone. But the opposite isnt always true.
P.s. I never cried for a nerf. I dont care that they are still the highest DPS. Its the attitude that goes with it that I dont like. Not the beserkers stats, gear, traits, etc.
Read my posts about it in this thread. Ive been saying it all along.
(edited by pdavis.8031)
I think this is a DESIGN problem, not a gear problem.
Nope.
This problem is pure and simple a people problem. Why? Because if everyone formed their own group and everyone honored group requirements, there would be no problem. Whether it’s non-meta players trying to sneak into meta groups, or people entering “anything goes” groups and being kitten-heads, it’s a people problem.
Anything beyond that is really people wanting the PuG experience to provide their preferred group. Expecting a random experience to exactly provide your preference is nothing but a people problem.

Except the part about “the opposite isn’t always true”…
Zerks only QQ when people ignore the party requirements. If I am going to make a party, don’t waste my time by joining and then not being good enough! It’s MY party. I want it to run MY WAY. If you guys want to run something different, go lfg for something different. The general problem is people disregarding lfg descriptions. That being said, having a zerk go into a party that isn’t labeled zerk and QQing because he/she doesn’t find the rest of the party “capable” is not ok. READ THE DESCRIPTIONS TO FIND YOUR DESIRED GUILD WARS 2 EXPERIENCE.
^amen.
Leta be friends
Anyway back fo the topic at hand. Zerkers are not dead. Yeah they got a nerf, but even with the nerf they still are the highest DPS in the game. The nerf didnt balance them, it just made them slightly less powerful than before. The fact the were few other buffs/nerds to other classes, the imbalance is still way off, if that was their intent to issue the nerf to begin with.
Most of the game’s content is designed in such a way that maximizing DPS is the most effective/efficient means of completion. As long as that is the case it will not matter what ANet does to any given DPS build. Build diversity will not come from nerfs to specific DPS builds, it must start with encounter/mob design.
How come nobody can specifically describe what builds benefit from a nerf to Zerker build? They always speak of them vaguely, then when you take them to task they get defensive and deflect.
What builds benefit from a nerf to Zerker? How are they “more viable” now when the game play mechanics haven’t changed one iota?
Was anybody able to explain this? I’m so very ignorant of the topic. I do not understand what builds were made more viable? I thought this game was “no trinity”. So do healers benefit? Tank builds? Crowd control? Was defiance removed from the game or something? Please explain, I need specifics. Thanks.

No one can answer because there is no build that benefits from a beserker nerf. Zerker was nerfed, but little else was done to buff other builds. So the other builds operate pretty much the same, and zerk does slightly less DPS. That’s about it.
Everything you say is true. But the “something else meta” would hopefully involve something besides five people with almost the exact same build.
I just think that if A-Net wants to see variety, which is their stated purpose, they should encourage it by changing game-mechanics.
I think people fail to realize that variety does not bring about better community spirit. You can have 8 dungeons with 8 specific metas for each one, each meta having multiple roles that need to be filled. That will not make the community less “toxic”, less prone to kicking if you’re in the wrong gear for that specific encounter, if you’re slower or if you are what the meta determines to be the wrong class for that dungeon.
I’d really like it if people who screamed " we need more variety " would understand that more variety just brings about more metas, it doesn’t make people who run the meta more friendly and accepting of people who don’t.
If anything I feel this " more variety" shift would be hurtful to new players. Let me explain.
Right now if you want to adhere to the dungeon meta for PUGs (not organized guilds) pretty much all you have to do is get zerker gear and learn how to stay alive in it. Your build is usually the one that pushes out most dps.
If the meta becomes so varied that you need multiple sets/builds/classes to be able to be part of the meta for many dungeons it’ll be newer players – who can’t afford to get all that gear or who might be overwhelmed by having to experience to many builds at once who will be hurt the most.
I feel the game is in a good place now – any build / party composition can finish the dungeon without much hassle – and we have one good effective way of doing it really fast if we want to.
my issue isn’t anything pointed at zergers, if you want to focus on speed rather then fun then be my guess.
my issue is how ppl tread non-zergers, they are seen as useless junk under the excuse that they should not be there and simply don’t belong.
sure, there are “some” groups who play for fun but be honest, how many are actually playing for fun?if ppl just keep their foul remarks to them self then finding a group isn’t so bothersome, the game is there to have fun and relax and that’s exactly what i am planning to do.
+100
I totally agree. Although it’s not so bad in game, it’s worse in the forums. Zerkers, typically, only care about DPS and themselves. Nothing else matters to them. Because to them DPS = money, and that is the whole of the game. Period. I tried to have a discussion as to why another build wasn’t viable, but no one wanted to hear it.
And to those who think that non-zerkers are only “pretending” to tank, do damage, whatever, and are not actually doing anything, really just need to get over yourselves and stop whining about how someone else plays. Because yes we are doing damage, yes we are using healing, and keeping people in the fight a little longer, among other things. There is no emote for swinging your weapon uselessly, or activing a skill etc.
A group of non zerkers can do a dungeon just as well as a zerker group. And guess what? The result is the same! Mobs die, boss gets killed, people get loot.
If you don’t want to be efficient, or run with people who are not “elitists”…then don’t run with us. If you don’t wana deal with us, then don’t join parties labeled “zerk” or “5k + AP” or “zerk, ping gear on join”.
it’s also the other way around, when i tried to make a team i had 2 ppl who wanted to do the same this as i want, take the time to enjoy the dungeon.
then a zerger joined and demanded a gear ping, when we refused he flat out offended the three of us.
you might talk like that but zergers are actually worse, they are searching for ppl to go fast or go offensive to other players.
a game is made to enjoy to free time that we have, they are the ones who are out there to ruin the fun and ruin the mood of non-zergers.

I can write a dozen stories about insufferable cleric/staff guardians too. Some people are kittens, it’s not simply a quality that’s unique to people wearing berserker gear or those that don’t.

Agreed. Although I also agree that zerks should not go into a party thinking that its going to be a full zerk party. Party labels are there for a reason, people.

I can say I’ve never joined a party that doesn’t specifically ask for experience and zerker gear.
My Knight/Cavalier warrior feels much better now in dungeons. Specially with a nice sharpening stone.
Conditions will always be crap as long as there is a 25 cap.
Could someone explain this to me? I was looking at trying a Condition Damage build (perhaps Carrion or Rabid) but have not obtained the armor yet for my level 80 Thief yet. What is so bad about Condition Damage?
I’m looking for advice. I don’t know what I am doing with regards to builds. I’m an extremely casual altaholic.
Best joke ever, good laugh thx.

All of the above reasons conditions has a maximum cap in damage, that can’t be increased further, since no damage modifier affects them nor vulnerability help and even if you reach an uber brutal max stack of conditions an average power user still outdamage you with auto attacking. Without buffs.
