Hello,

So after a recent event in game, I decided to think about how this game rewards players and why it is so based heavily in RNG and why it is very flawed.

So with the setup of RNG players who hardly play and dedicated players are on the same level of getting rewards in certain events. The problem with this is that it can be very frustrating. Ill use an example

So I do the pre events for world bosses a lot. It is not easy. Trying to do karka queen pre events with people is like pulling teeth. Say I do this all the time, almost every day. My friend quit the game and hasn’t played in months decided to play once with me during these events. During this event he gets an exotic worth well over 100g. A very rare weapon. He sold it, and no longer plays.

So here is the issue. A player who has pretty much quit the game just got heavily rewarded, more than player who is very dedicated and has triple his gaming hours. This is a huge problem. Some may say the put in dungeons for dedicated players and fractals. Lets be honest though, they aren’t that good. Fractals is still based around RNG with fractal weapons. The backpiece is the only thing worth while. Some of the dungeons rewards are reskins for weapons or armor that doesn’t fit your class. You also can’t sell these items on the TP. So all those cool, amazing looking items on the TP that are worth 300g+ I can’t afford unless I farm CoF a bunch.

There needs better ways for players who are dedicated to work towards buying those insanely expensive items in the TP without having to take advantage of some easy mode dungeon. I just feel like the heavy focus on the TP combined with the large amount of RNG that is in the game causes some frustration in rewards and heavily rewards players who sometimes don’t deserve it. This post was a bit of a rant, but it is also a problem I sometimes see.

Completely agree. However, we have hundreds of active threads already on this identical subject.
Whilst everything you say im wholeheartedly behind, we really need a one big thread for this subject now..

“Dedicated players” are the farmers, grinders, addicts and exploiters who keep MMORPGs as mediocre as they have ever been and who don’t really deserve anything but to be told how good they are at wasting their own life.

MMORPGs give a fortune to the in-game equivalent of Chinese factory workers who work 18 hours per day 7 days a week doing mindless, easy and boring jobs. ArenaNet’s RNG system is the in-game equivalent of allowing those factory workers to bet on the lottery.

Both systems are incredibly flawed, but one isn’t worse than the other. Grind shouldn’t be rewarded, just like RNG shouldn’t be rewarded. As ArenaNet used to say, “skill > time spent”.

“I think that players are starting to mature past the point of wanting to be on that
treadmill, of being in that obvious pattern of every time I catch up you are going to
put another carrot in front of me” – Mike O’Brien right before Ascended weapons

- Loot is low because the design goal and intended player base is not like that of other current MMOs.
