Ok a lot of people really dislike the RNG we all have to suffer from in this game, i love the game but i am really tired of the horrible risk vs. reward this game has implemented.

So i was going to just spend 15.00 a month on gems in the gem store like i was paying a subscription, i have done this since release in my way of supporting the game.

Today i just had it…. 9 runs in 3 dungeons and i got 2 greens the rest blues, sure i know this is really bad luck, but i hate it, i hate feeling like i just wasted my time. I do not want to resent the game i play, but i do more and more.

So for xmas my kid got me a Giant glowing 100 sided dice (from thinkgeek.com i think) I decided i would RNG Anet, sure they make millions a day i bet, but this is my way of “sticking it to the man”.

Once a month i will roll my 100 sided dice, if that Dice does not hit 100 i will not buy any gems for the month. If i hit 100 i will then roll again to show how much i will spend. 1-80 $.5.00 / 81-99 $10.00 / 100 $20.00.

This is how i feel RNG hits me… generally i think i am being generous, but regardless its how i intend to show my support to Anet.

Maybe others will get on board with me ?

I know there will be people on here that say things like: If you don’t like RNG then don’t buy stuff from the gem store der dee der. But I REALLY like this idea lol, it’s exactly how I feel playing 3/4 of this game including the gem store. It’s too bad the other 1/4 of the game has me hooked. Anyhoo I think I’ll start doing this also.

LOL while its great that they made you happy about talking about fixing culling you might want to go back to that article and re-read it, they are not confirming that fix will be on the 28th, in fact they didn’t even state it would be removed completely, just that its getting worked on.

Anywho, i made this post mainly to show Anet how i like there game but the egregious use of craptastic RNG is forcing me to re-evaluate how i support them.

Honestly I’m just confused that you were spending $15 a month.

Unless you were converting them into gold I can’t imagine what you found in the gem store to spend that much on.

My daughter uses my account to play also, so i have extra character slots, bank slots, some i purchased more bag space, and yes lots of gems for potential gold conversion.

If i like a game thats B2P or even F2P, i show my support by spending a small amount equal to a subscription.

Both my wife and I have decent jobs, we are not in debt and we both play online games. Generally we play alot of online games because we live in Barrow Alaska and when its minus -40f or worse outside, with no shopping centers or even a movie theatre, well MMOs fill the entertainment slot quite nicely.

As i see it $15.00 a month is a pittance to the amounts of entertainment i get from this game and others like it.

Who says he was spending most of that? He stated he was spending $15 a month to show his suppport, basically pretending that he was paying for a subscription. I have been buying Gems myself since release and haven’t spent any of it yet, but I want to show my support to Arenanet as well.

This is what was said:

WvW: How is the fight against culling going?
It is a huge project that involve us basically rewriting the entire way how models and assets load.
Jan update is our first major improvement – models that appear near you will first be a low res model that act as a placeholder until the whole character is loaded in. This will fix those “invisible” characters that appear next to you that some of you are currently experiencing.
Next major step is how do we show more models and more things happening on screen. We are doing a lot of internal testing and it is looking very promising.
We are going to stay away from doing massive open world events with hundreds of people until we get culling fixed.

Yeah I’ve pretty much sworn off buying anything RNG. I don’t mind RNG so much in the game, black-lion chest drops and all that. But when it’s with real money, it’s gambling and I’m not okay with that, especially in a game where kids could be gambling.

There is many things in the gem store that appeal to different people.

For instance, I enjoy the costumes/town clothing. Whenever new ones are released, I make sure to pick those up right away. Others enjoy the mini pets and are willing to spend the money to get them all. Along with those who want to collect all the dyes, so they spend money on the dye packs.

Seeing as everything is around 10 dollars or more, 15 bucks a month can go on for awhile to make sure you get all the things you want.

Really? With some of the ridiculous drops in this game 1:100 seems pretty generous to me. I mean people calculated the infinite choir bell to be like a 0.002% drop rate, and it only dropped from a cash-shop RNG item.

Infinite choir bells dropped out of gift packages that were dropping like flies all over the world. Didn’t have to spend a dime to get them.

I’m not saying there’s not a problem with their RNG rates. I’m just saying that it’s not as bad as people make it seem….and people should be used to it by now.

I think they could get away with RNG in GW1 because that was a very unique game. The problem is that now they want to compete with games like WoW (They’ve flat-out said so), and that kind of player base wants something a lot more concrete than the RNG schemes they’re using.

People should be used to it by now? Everyone just needs to abandon the concept of fair reward for effort, suck it up and plow on ahead?
What about the people who started playing post-November, who might not have had the chance to accrue enough wealth to provide a buffer against inflated costs and crippled incomes, or the people who might enjoy playing at a more sedate pace due to time restrictions? Should they just ‘get used’ to a clear financial inability to enhance their character’s potential, or to see a return of equal worth on their efforts?
The comparisons to games like WoW are quite apt – they intend on competing with, and superseding, Blizzard’s title.
Why, then, should they view themselves as exempt from providing the same level of return for invested time on the behalf of the player?
The level to which people are willing to grudgingly accept the wholesale reduction of income and reward in Guild Wars 2, and concurrently concede the necessity to utilise the gem store gold conversion system to supplement their hampered resource flow, is the measure of the success of Crystin’s program.
I’ll take an honest subscription model any day of the week over this slimy, underhanded manipulation.

If only ArenaNet thought like the bot creators then perhaps they could one day get somewhere… You know, find out ways how to screw up, say like teleporting for example, if you teleport to x, y, z without using a waypoint or coin then the client crashes or all of your characters are locked out for a set period of time….

I’d think the best way to get their attention would be for the entire community to stay away from the Gem store.

Sadly, I’m suspicious that there are just enough people with too much money and too little sense that are buying loads of gems and turning them to gold for them to not really care.

I like this good for you guys.

The only stuff I’ve bought with gems are extra bank and inventory spaces, to be honest there’s nothing else in the gem store that takes my fancy, I don’t care for clothes, looks or gimmicks.

The drop rate for anything half decent is disgusting, I’ve done shedloads of DE’s, events, event chains, champs, chests etc, and never get anything other than blues and whites, an occasional green and a measly little bit of Karma.

Funny how I’ve got 200 Black Lion Chests, but I never get any keys, and sure as hell I ainn’t gonna buy them, just to get more trash items.

I do enjoy a good event or whatever, but I’m beginning to think, whats the point !

Umm i still do not see how culling has anything to do with this thread, i commented on it only our of courtesy to the poster who mentioned it. Not even in that post does it say culling will no longer exist at all, its being worked on.

My OP was a light hearted way to express my displeasure about the overused RNG mechanic Anet has hoisted upon us in this game. I disagree with it, and so therefore i will show my support for the game in the same way Anet has shown its disregard for its player base by forcing it on us.

Culling, while a bad mechanic, and exploited even further by Thieves in WvW, was not implemented to curtail how the players played, it was done to facilitate better frame rates in large scale engagements. So no, i do not find it easy to compare the 2 issues, nor do i think culling should be discussed more in this thread.

Thanks to everyone else who commented about my RNG for Anet idea though.

If its properly balanced, it would only do tremendous good for it.

I’m sure people are tired of comparison to “big blue”, but WoW all be it eliminated RNG from their endgame loot and their economies were fine (at least on servers that were not dead – not an issue with GW2’s global tp system)

I do not think for even one second i suggested to “REMOVE” RNG, my issue with it is that the RNG implemented for this game falls on the crap side of things mroe often than the decent, good, or great side of things.

Anet has clearly shown that they can easily manipulate the results of RNG, i think this manipulation has been pushed over to the “Give them poo” side of the scale.

So as i stated in my OP, i will do so in kind when it comes to my “appreciation” towards Anet.
