RNG... getting very old...
Stop wasting for a precursor. Anet is considering changes to how precursors are obtained.
Um, as far as I know, rings don’t drop until tier 10 fractals because, well, agony doesn’t set in until then.
Agree I hate, Hate, hate this RNG system. I was so tired of it, I tried to look for away around it from the mystic forge.(which is impossible but figured I give it a shot and see) It takes 4 items to make one, which is already annoying at most.
I was aiming for an exotic sword so what I did was buy four Rare swords with different stats on each. In hopes to throw them in the Mystic Toilet and hope to get 1 Exotic back. Well one of the rare swords was a Krait sword. I toss the 4 in and crossed my fingers to maybe get an exotic. Well what I got back was a RARE KRAIT SWORD BACK! I frikking got the same dam sword back that I used in the mystic toilet in hopes to not get it back?
Now I have a rare sword that I will never use. I might just sell it back to the TP or wait until I have some coin (yep buying the four rare swords broke me) and buy a master kit to rip it appart for the Rune, and etco.
What a BS sytem this game has.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t the Ascended Ring only drop on Level 10+ runs of Fractals?
Worst system I’ve ever personally seen in a game for loot and advancement, but doesn’t really matter. The main thing is to remember that people are unhappy, which means the prerequisites and difficulty will change many more times, and eventually they will release something that makes legendaries “yesterday’s news” long before most have them. Why bother?
Think when he said T2 fractals he means Tier 2 – i.e. levels 10-19.
T1 – 1-9
T2 – 10-19
T3 – 20-29 etc
I have to agree that RNG on a progression item takes me back to running raids on another game attempting to gear up new guild members. It’s a poor mechanic that I thought had been dropped with the introduction of tokens.

This is exactly what I was saying. Thank you for putting it more eloquently.
Rewards always yield more positives than punishment.

Currently: 3619 kills ~ all for Piken Square
Randomness is the key factor to making a successful skinner box. Without randomness the compulsion to repeat tedious tasks is greatly reduced.
Off course RNG is getting old, you silly bum. It has existed since the creation of the universe!

I don’t mind a certain amount of RNG, games need it. The problem is this game relies almost 100% on it. There’s nothing I can do to WORK towards anything, I can merely farm RNG and hope to get it.
Naturally i’m talking precursors, ascended stuff, t6 materials stuff like that. I duno, RNG is a mechanic that can be fun from time to time but to rely so heavily on it just reeks of a lack of imagination.
I’ve been trying to pin down what exactly it is about GW2 that has really set my teeth on edge lately. I think it comes down to the RNG factor.
Playing is not rewarding when all I can do is vainly hope for SOME sort of decent drop… or any drop at all. I am one of the weird people who really enjoys cranking up some tunes while I run about the landscape, killing anything I can see, and collecting a nice bit of cash along the way.
The RNG in GW2 makes that nearly impossible. Not only am I looking at level 80 zones so densely packed with CC-type mobs I can barely take two steps without stepping in a respawn, I am also at the mercy of the loot gods. Will these 5 creatures drop anything worth getting excited over? More often than not, 4 drop nothing, while the 5th drops a grey porous bone.
I’d gladly drag my sorry backside through Orr if there was a good reason to. If there would be a tangible benefit to my character, I would traipse happily through hordes of Risen that chain-stun me long enough to make a cup of tea. Unfortunately, thanks to the RNG, the time I put into the game is not adequately recompensed in any way.
Relying on luck, and luck alone, to make any sort of meaningful progression is boring, tedious, and not at all fun.
RNG was old 20 years ago, now its ancient. But thats why there are other, more surer ways of obtaining gear in GW2.
But as to precursors specifically, theres been posts that theyre already considering/working on another way to get them.

Not the ascended ring he/she is after…pure RNG.

Ascended gear isnt finished being implemented, so Im trying to ignore its existence until it is as currently I see no point in farming Fractals 100 times just so I can… farm Fractals some more.

But now you fall further and further behind the gear treadmill if you do not farm Fractal’s. It has only been a little over a week since the fractal go implemented and I see more an more spaming in chat. LFG level 15 Fractal. Buy the time you get to fractal people will probaly be spamming level 55 fractal lfg, and you still did not do level 1 fractal yet.
RNG in open world is just as bad at this point. My progression as a gatherer/crafter has been stunted since a month ago. Imagine buying multiple slots for alts and not being able to gear but one of them. Yeah.
Globs are almost impossible to salvage for now, even with the BTC salvage kits.
Rares almost never drop off anything
Vet/champs don’t have improved drops.
Magic find is still completely useless even when getting drops from regular mobs.
DR is STILL in the game even tho they don’t need it since they can detect bots now.
It’s just disheartening the whole thing. When did this game lose the ability to have fun and become a second job?
Why would you waste money trying to get a precursor with RNG? That’s the least efficient way of doing it. Earn money and buy it?

What? I made about 2g yesterday by buying cheap golds, salvaging them with BTC and selling the ectos.
I’m getting about 3 rare per FOTM run (< lvl 5)
Champs do not drop anything good, that’s true.
Magic find is not useless.
I tried the MF at one point and decided it was not for me. It would be much cheaper to play the slot machines in Vegas and use the $ won to buy gold in the gem store if you’re jonesing on the gambling aspect. Heck, I once went to a casino in Reno and came out 45 cents ahead. It would be much faster at that rate than using the MF.
