RNG is just killing me
Stop whining. 4513 hours /played here and zero precursors from outside of the mystic forge
The precursor alternative won’t be available for another few months at the earliest.
Also, S2 Legendaries.
I agree that, as implemented, RNG is a problem. It’s not a problem for the economy, it’s a problem from the stand point of player fun. I would appreciate any mechanism that spread the wealth a bit.
BUT (and this is huge) the problem is, the more you get, the more you want. Before the magic find change I would get all blues and greens. I thought “man, if I could get rares once in a while that would be great”. Now I get rares on a semi-regular basis, maybe 2-3 a night. And I’m thinking “man, if I could just get exotics to drop more often.”
If anything, items such as precursors drop too commonly.
After a year and a half, it seems every other person running by has a legendary. I haven’t had a precursor drop in my lap, but I’ve been able to acquire a couple legendary weapons through some dedicated gameplay.
The best/coolest items should always be difficult to acquire. That being said, anything ruled by RNG should be sellable on the tradepost. That way, if you can’t win the lottery, you can at least put in an effort to gain the same reward.
Now, stop being lazy, and go earn your precursor.
I heard anyone with a “2” and “9” in their account number is cursed with extremely low drop rates of precursors.

This is completely true. Here is why -
0 – Zero is nothing, and quantum fluctuation dictates that basically anything can come out of nothing, including a precursor.
1 – Numero uno, #1, top of the hill, of course they are going to get a precursor!
2 Well, 2 is just a wanna be number one, and it’s even, too. So boring. No precursor for you!
3 – The law of threes – it’s that you get a precursor!
4 – Number 4 in Chinese sounds like death. Don’t mess with that mo-fo! Better give him a presurcor!
5 – It’s in the middle, moderate, nice and temperate. That even-keeled-ness nowadays deserves a precursor.
6 – What do you get if you change one letter in “six”? That’s right, sox, or socks for our less-than-cool cousins, and what do you stuff your socks with this time of year? Precursors!!
7 – Lucky number 7. ‘Nuff said.
8 – It’s the only cube here, 2^3. Surely, for going above and beyond the square, this one deserves a precursor.
9 – For calling my Shirley and being at the end of the line, you get nothing. You lose! Good day, sir!
RNG is the main reason my game-play has gone from 12+ hrs daily to about 4+ hrs daily.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
Yeah, it always seems to feel like certain people get all the luck… But you never know, all that bad luck and you might get 3 dusk drops in a row tomorrow!

dang it! it all makes sense now. no wonder i had to work to farm the gold to buy my precursor.

Thanks for a good laugh
Some could argue RNG is about as fair as it gets. Everyone has an equally random chance to get something (+ MF modifiers when applicable).
Personally I would much rather there be a system that has an alternative path besides RNG. RNG is good and all, but it would definitely be nice to be able to work towards something and know that there is a definite end. I don’t care if its grind-heavy, at least then you can actually make progress. With RNG it’s a complete crapshoot.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I have got a pre drop for me but I did spend more money on the mystic toilet then the pre costs so… It can be annoying but it just might pay you back in time. Best way to play is hope for nothing more than rares to salvage 3 ectos from that way you will get money for your pre in no time. Also do dungeons as I get roughly 40g a day from selling all mats. Average pre is 500g so… 10-15 days will get you a pre if you know what your doing

LOL…so that explains it, over a year of play and almost 3k hours not a single thing except a couple exotics, I just need a new account..no wait?
I think the original idea behind legendary’s was not a bad idea and it semi worked.
But at this point in the game I don’t think RNG needs to be removed just toned down a bit instead of a .001% chance at a precursor maybe have a .01% chance that way its still rare but not impossible.
Sadly legendary’s have lost most there meaning anyway and I can understand why some people would be upset about not getting one after so many hours of play.
You are not unlucky. Your friend is just lucky.
and playing since beta don’t mean you actually play alot everyday.
and playing everyday dont’ mean you farm everyday.
If you do farm a few thousand hours you should have enough money even if you are unlucky.

Some people DO get all the luck. I’ve been playing tabletop games for almost 40 years and I’ve rolled countless sets of dice. There are people who get lucky with stupid frequency and others who couldn’t roll a 7 on two d6s to save their lives. The trick is to learn if you are one of those extremes. If you were born under the sign of the horseshoe, exploit it. If instead, you were born under a sign reading “Horse Crossing – Watch Your Step”, accept it and stay the hell away from games of chance. Complaining about it isn’t going to change anything. After all, it’s the guys who win, who design these games with suckers like us in mind.

RNG makes Blockhead an unhappy player. Bad decision…. very bad decision.
