Not sure what else to call it but i dont know about you guys but as a spellcaster I would KILL for a book skin to cover my mainhand weapon. Necromancer axe for example, not many spellcaster-esque axes out there.. What do you folks think?
So when you telekinetically levitate your spell book to your enemy and spin it around with dark magic, they are sliced up by…..paper cuts? Personally I think spell tomes should just be added as an entirely new weapon type for artificer; even suggested it once along side crossbows for huntsmen and polearms for weaponsmith. But of course that was before I knew Arena Net didn’t actually read the suggestions forum and only created it in the first place because they were tired of reading suggestions here and in the profession forums. You know; the places where people who might actually care could see them.

Well it makes just as much sense as the axe now. You don’t actually hit people with it or throw it, in fact it’s not even a projectile weapon, you just swing it and they inexplicably take damage. It makes just as much sense as swinging a book at them.
As for making tomes a MH (or maybe two handed… like the guardian elites?) weapon, I think it’d be really cool. But they would have to be clearly differentiated from the existing focus book skins, of which there are several.

They got Book weapons in FF14. I find it to be an awkward and amusing weapon, especially when you can melee with it by smacking them in the face with the book. It’s low dmg and totally useless to melee with it, but it gives you the option. XD
I also crave a Crossbow Shortbow skin. :< Would be a nice Legendary even. Unless they want to actually add crossbows.

Look at an arcanist in Final Fantasy A Realm Reborn. Their weapon is a spell tome.

A new weapon for casters, a Book, would be pretty sweet I think. It could have some pretty cool animations too. I haven’t really thought about interesting new weapon types in a long time but this one certainly seems like one of the better ideas.
If it were up to me, I’d make it 2 handed though so as to not allow the odd dual-book wielding.

It wouldn’t work because your weapon skin allows your opponents to know what weapon you are using.
if you use an axe that looks like a book, when foci (or any one handed weapon, as you suggest) can also look like a book, then that hides important tactical information from your opponents, which is an unfair advantage.
ie: Your axe looks like an axe so that other players know you’re using axe skills.

I see from a pvp standpoint honestly, however, candy cane skin comes to mind; could be a staff, could be a sword, oh no its actually a hammer!
there are lots of weapon skins that look like something else (severed hand holding a dagger looks like a focus to me honestly)

while some may look misleading, the same skin is only used for that one weapon, so once you know what skin that is, you know what weapon it is. ie: once you know the candy cane is a hammer, you know it’ll always be a hammer.
what’s being suggested is skins which could be used on multiple weapons, which is a problem.
also: weapon skins are tied into animations, and animations are tied into the combat system.
a scrollcase with a pages unfurled for example can be made to look like an axe. a tube scroll (for example) could be used a a one handed sword like a rolled up newspaper
if you use a little imagination it isnt so far fetched. Im just saying Im not a super huge fan of being a spellcaster lugging around a huge axe.
