RPG, With random people running around?
I feel the exact opposite.
I actually agree with Blue, have a whole guild full of people and everyone goes on doing their own thing. There is no advantage to having a party in this game other than group events, world events, and bosses. Being in a party can actually hinder you when it comes to hearts, if you are the type who does them quickly, you end up standing around waiting. Im sure this will get adressed at somepoint,
Yeah I agree too.
90%+ of the people I try to talk to completely ignore me lol.
I don’t think people want to interupt their “flow” when completing a zone, like if they group up with someone but don’t want to help them do a heart or something that the person already finished.
Actually this is something to do with the player community that you can notice in general.
I’ve played other mmos where they force you to party with others and you know what happens? No one talks at all because they just want to get it over with already. It’s as if people find it a job and just don’t want to try communicating anymore. Usually if you don’t force team partying people generally find their way into talking and finding others to play with. Maybe because MMOs now are such mainstream now and have been overly played that people don’t get a sense of amazement when they see another player, like back when MMOs first started.
However I’ve met a lot of people on here that have saved me from dying, talked to me and even helped me out which has been a HUGE improvement compared to other mmos.

I agree with OP, and I have said basically the same thing in other threads. Dungeons have been a turn off for many and there isn’t really anything else in the PvE world that encourages people to communicate. It was the same thing I felt when I played SWTOR, and that is that the game is mostly a single player experience with other people around doing their own thing.

I also feel the opposite to the OP. In most MMOs I’ve played, everyone plays entirely separately, toward their own goals, except where content requires a party. Then they find one, get it done, move on. In GW2 you never have to put a party together, you never have to formally agree to work together (outside of dungeons) – you just do it.
Maybe people don’t talk. I would reply if someone said something in chat, but I guess not everyone does. I love the fact that we can co-operate without communication, though. You can share awesome game experiences with people you happen across without ever talking to them.
I will say that GW2 does not lend itself as well to playing along with friends, for various reasons. I think it’s better suited to fluid groups, coming together and flowing apart again. I’d go to a map with friends, but I don’t mind if we end up going separate ways then rejoining each other or helping each other out later.

I feel the same way. Since you don’t have to pay monthly (if i did I wouldn’t be playing anyways), I feel no need to take the game seriously. I just play out of enjoyment at my own pace.

In all MMOs, u know what stands for M.M. on mmo ? Massively Multiplayer, hence gathering many players on same server to play together duh ^^
Like OP said, modern / most recent MMOs mostly target egoists/centric people because nowadays everyone brag about useless kitten on FB so they feel important. And same mentality invaded mmos, they want it all, they want it now, without effort or they wont have anything to brag about.
Game has no challenge whatsoever, I dont remember last time i died in pve you barely have to look at the scrren. So of course everyone play solo cause they dont care. It goes a lot faster when grouped though, so in this game they implemented the “group up together without having to actually invest into making a group”, just zerg altogether.
On paper its great idea, no more trinity, no more mandatory group … but in the end its a solo pve game. No pvp in real world, only in WwW is also a big mistake … How can u pretend releasing a pvp game (not even worth mentionning esport lol) when there is actually no pvp outside of a single and isolated battleground mode.

This is similiar to how I feel. I’m not against chatting but to be honest I’ve been spoiled in my other MMO by voice chat. I barely pay attention to my window and if I don’t notice the brief chat bubble I miss people talking. There have been several times I saw that someone said something that I completely missed. I’m also kitten and take a long time to type when someone does to the point where they’re gone before I get my reply out. lol
In this game I do find a lot of unspoken communication happening. People help me and in turn I help them all of the time. People seem to go out of there way to rez and jump in and help save my butt. It’s cool and not something I’m used to happening in other MMOs. Today I spent a whole DE chain with someone. It was just the two of us and without saying a word to each other we found a good groove with our respective classes and worked as a team. It was fun. At the end of it, we said goodbye and see yah around. Even though we didn’t talk it felt quite social in a weird way, the social just happened through the actual playing.
I’m enjoying how the design of the game allows for this type of thing to happen as I’m not always up for standing around and chatting about doing things rather then just doing them.
Maybe because this game is already on party-mode already. I mean if you’re fighting alone someone comes out and helps out anyway and we all get shared exp and stuff… It’s pretty neat but kinda kills having an own-made party at all unless in dungeons or something.

Massively multiplayer doesn’t necessarily mean grouped. It means lots of players, leaving the specific context of the many players’ involvement with each other up to the design of the specific game. In this game I play with other players every day. I do not talk to them or group up with them. The only time I group is when my one IRL friend who plays GW2 is online.

There is absolutely nothing I could do in a video game that exists on this planet that I would consider to be worth bragging about or showing off. It’s all pretend. It’s fun, but it’s not real and certainly doesn’t give me the impression that I’m awesome or that I’ve done anything of substance. A major in-game accomplishment will give me the warm-and-fuzzies for about 10 minutes before it fades, and I’m under no delusion that anyone else would give a crap for even 10 seconds.

I’ve had these sorts of experiences too, and I find it preferable to any other sort of social gaming by a long measure.
