I know that our personal story has lot of ties to our race, but WoW’s (sorry for comparing it to WoW) race changes allowed for having direct equivalents of certain things such as mounts and what not, and even allowed for transfer of those into say, the opposing faction and equivalents thereof. Achievements that were say, Horde specific, were transferred to equivalent ones in the Alliance.

I bring this up because I really want to change the race of my human guardian, my main. I do not want to have to start from scratch again just to get say, a sylvari guardian. I picked human by default because I was just playing around and ended up playing the game to the point that he’s 80 (I started playing in December).

Are there any future possibility, through the gemstore of course, to change races? I would pay for a service like that.

ANet has said on multiple occasions that they won’t be implementing race change. Personal story is part of the reason why, but there’s also issues concerning cultural armor, racial skills, and the choices you make at character creation. I’m sure there are a few more things on the list, but that’s some of them anyway.

They could easily make it so your personal story is wiped, and you can start anew with your new race. You would forfeit the ability to wear any cultural armor for your old race, again very easy to do with the new wardrobe in place. When you change race it should be easy to impliment a way to choose your starting “paths” or w/e.

I’m sure they could get away with some thing stupid like 30/40 dollars a pop, and plenty of people would gladly pay that to not have to level again.

Never say never. Anet has said it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility some day, but as of right now there are currently no plans to implement such a service. They haven’t done a single thing to work towards it.

With the wardrobe now the cultural armor problem is pretty much a non issue. It could be like when logging in as the new race for the first time all cultural transmutations equipped revert back to original model.

This is something I would like to see Anet reconsider now that they have implemented the wardrobe system. They just need to make it require being done the personal story or at least your cultural personal story (30?). With the wardrobe they can just make the race change revert your armour to its original skin. With ascended items being account bound its even less work as you could transmute the armour out of cultural armour and then put it in your bank and change your race.

Anet has changed their mind on many things in the past (account bound wxp for example) and this is one thing I would hope they consider someday. They could put this on the gem shop for 2000 gems and they would sell like hot cakes
