So we can get name changes, gender changes, and any other change besides race change as far as I’m aware.

Does anyone know if there are any plans for the future to change race?
After playing all this time i feel my Engineer should have been an Asura and my guard should have been a Norn to be honest….

Of course i do understand you’d have to do your personal story again with the new race but still the option would be nice…

No, there’s no plans to introduce this that we are aware of.

Probably not because every race is connected with story line so it’s not easy just to make race change because if they make that possible they would probably need to make changes to a lot of game content and I don’t think that’s worth their time to do.

Still the same problem I would think. You would be (for example) a Charr with a human personal story line in your panel, telling how (for example again) you were born in a human noble family and how lost your human sister.

Imo any race change would need the ability to go into your hero panel and either completely redo the story line or remove it. Either way it wouldn’t be just an easy change like a makeover kit to change tattoos and hairstyles.

Nah, as I pointed out in a previous race change thread, the race change could come about as the result of a magical transformation, intentional — or not. Possibly in the form of a package from Scarlet Briar, lost in the mail but now found and delivered.

Or some previously unknown aspect of the Mystic Forge…

If people are worried about the personal storyline, your previous race’s story would be wiped clean and you would have to start from 0 possibly having to do your new race’s intro but retaining everything else(you would be downscaled of course)

I don’t think you need to complete your whole personal story(as i haven’t done so on every character but my main)

I don’t think the above is hard to implement.

And if people are trying to find the “logic” try finding it behind gender changes….you could as well explain it as a tome that allows you to go back in time via the mists and redo your initial race choice and voila

What about those race-specific achievements though? There are multiple achievements that require specific races.

Race-specific achievements? Which ones are race specific? Personal story? Fashion?

Keep whatever achievements you earned as Old Race, stop earning them when you become New Race, earn achievements specific to New Race thereafter.

After the trait system redesign, some people might prefer a race change to leveling a new character.

If you ask me there is easy fix to this.Just erase the old PS.Then just give new fresh one to the player.It’s not needed the player to play through it just let him choose the end of each one.

There’s an easy fix for this personal story problem: Let’s say you’re a human and finished ps up to lvl 20. You change to norn, ps gets reset and you do not get rewards for ps until lvl 20. If you finished the whole ps as a human, everything is reset and if you decide to do the ps as norn, you don’t get rewards at all. Because I’m sure their problem is that people would get more rewards for ps. Problem solved, Anet makes more money by selling race changes.

I am saying this as a person who has 3 rangers because I couldn’t make up my mind about the race, hahaha! I definitely don’t need race change anymore but MANY people ask for it all the time so why not work on something the players actually want?

As far as I’m aware of, the PS between all races are similarly structured. So they can alter your journal to the corresponding choices for your new race.

Personally, I got a few asuras and norns I would want to change to humans because of the ridiculous clipping issues.

Because of the Personal Story association, race changes probably won’t be an easy fix. I can see in the future though (if they add new races) that they will allow a free character slot for every race they introduce. It would seem only fair to let you make a new character of a new race for free.

Probably not. The way I see it is in games that do provide race changes, it’s only an option because there are no restrictions made by race choices. Whereas in GW2 there is a very definite portion of the game and a portion of the story journal that is entirely associated with your race and choices you made in the personal story. The amount of work it would take to make this change work is probably phenomenal. It’s not that ANet probably doesn’t want to add this feature, but it’d take one hell of an overhaul to make it even slightly considerable.

I really have no idea what`s the problem with race change .
This item will work only on chars with finished story mode and who cares about story mode etc etc . after finishing story mode there are no choices or any connections to story mode . People just want to change it for different look . They dont care about everthing else .
I also dont see the problem Anet has .
People want to buy new char slot = good for us more money
People want to switch look =let them another easy money for us .

I’m sure the revenue from this service would outweigh the time to implement this. Many would even opt in to a full delete of our current race story progress; I only did my story on one out of my four maxed characters anyhow (WvW/craft/boost leveled).

I do enjoy the idea of costumes changing your race (like the recent gemstore addition legs change), I would hope though to retain choice of armor skins. Race slot sounds fun to me, but like you mentioned may be too large a goal.

That’s probably an overstatement. It could, potentially cost a ton. There are over 25,000 Sony fans who would be willing to pay $5-10 for a PSN ID change for their PS4s, but changing the tables along with the unique ID seems to still be debatable on the value of $250,000. That speaks volumes on how much work is required to do table restructuring around data that is interconnected with more data (such as race; whereas gender or appearance are hardly interconnected to any part of the system – it’s the same reason you can’t change professions, basically – because so much is tied into it and interconnected with the initial choice).

I’m not sure how the tables work in this game, but I am sure it would cost a phenomenal amount of money that the profits won’t justify – especially not when you consider it uses up valuable resources that could be used in other areas of the game (that desperately need the attention of those resources).

Given how much is involved with your race, it seems like structuring a race change would just be an obscenely complicated, lengthy and taxing cost with a minimal enough profit margin to make it invalidated by how much they need and want to do in the rest of the game. Race changes would certainly be nice, and everything is do-able, but the amount of time and effort it would take would be a waste. I mean you’re talking a project that could, potentially, be worth anywhere between $200-300,000 (mind you it could also be worth $10-20,000). That’s a lot of money. That’s a lot of gem sales they would need to meet in order to break even, nevermind seek a profit margin.
