FEEL THE STRENGTH OF THE EARTH
Vicodium – Ranger (IX) Coldsnap
I’m pretty curious, does anyone play with race only skills? That includes your elite skill.
I used to use my Warband, but I gave it up awhile ago when I fixed my build to be a better ranger.
Prayer to Dwayna (Human heal) on my Guardian, occasionally use Hounds of Balthazar elite on her too (Guardian elites are unnecessarily defensive).
I really don’t think any other racial skills are worth mentioning, in a PvE situation. Elites to replace the trashy Ele/Guardian ones I guess.
i a long time ago used to equip the sylvari turrets, but when i understand what “rampage as one” was doing i never came back.
on my mesmer i never even noticed any of the racial skills. it feels a waste.
and frankly on my norn guardian even the books are better than the morphing racial skills.
same goes with every class i played so far
When I first got my Slyvari to a level to get and elite skill I chose Summon Sylvan Hound. Then I found out it was like slow casting a low damage projectile. Summon, it stands there for about 5 seconds until it realizes it has something to do, runs into battle, attacks once, gets hit twice and it’s dead.
My Sylvari guardian still has the elite turrets because – well, because I don’t really know how to play a guardian yet.
But the skill was fairly useful when leveling up in the world – helping with trash adds or to get you up from a down-state.
I would use the spirit forms on my norn but you can’t move while using any of their skills.
Radiation Field and Pain Inverter are both quite nice on my two Asura, who are a Necromancer and Engineer, so both in strong positions to maximize Condition Damage too. Both swap Utilities pretty regularly though depending on my mood, so those aren’t so much permanent parts of their build as they are on the list that I’m willing to use now and then. Both use Class Elites.
My Charr Engineer uses the Charrzooka often enough, but prefers the Supply Crate from his Class list for serious fights. My Charr Guardian and Elementalist both use exclusively Class Skills.
My Norn Warrior, Thief and Necromancer occasionally use Wolf, Raven and Snow Leopard form respectively, but that’s mostly for RP, and they all take their Class Elites into any real combat scenario. Seriously, those powers are shamefully bad in actual fights.
My Human Thief uses Prayer to Kormir right now, although other condition removal options will open up later. My Human Mesmer, Elementalist, Warrior and Ranger use Class skills only.
Finally, my Sylvari Guardian sometimes uses Healing Seed, Seed Turret and Take Root to become a one-woman artillery platform, but that’s only when I’m messing around in low level zones. The rest of the time, she’s all Class skills, as are my Sylvari Mesmer and Ranger.

I use my Sylvari elite take root- I love it.
I even prefer using hounds of Balthazar on my Mermer- go figure
I rock an Asura Mesmer and I always thought Technobabble was terrible since it was just Signet of Domination without the passive while off cooldown and with a daze instead of a stun. You also couldn’t trait it.
Then I realized, during the T4 Candidate Trials (solo), that it was instant-cast. It is my new favorite on-demand interrupt.
For leveling, however, I used Radiation Field. When in dungeons and unsure of what 3rd utility to run, I grab Pain Inverter. For elites, I’ll rock Defensive Golem for a Shield of Absorption (it casts it 2-3 times if it lasts full duration). The SoA is similar to the Shield of Avenger (hah SoA again), in that it doesn’t knockback but simply destroys projectiles (although it might reflect, not 100% sure).
Links to all skills included.
I use Hidden Pistol for the Toolbelt skill but it’s probably not the most efficient.
