I see a lot of the changes being made to ‘balance’ the pvp experience. The problem I see is that these changes also have a large effect on the pve content and player.

When the developers decide to change a class, how much time if any is spent looking at the existing content to see if it’s still ‘balanced’ in pve? IMO it seems pve is more the afterthought of pvp.

Thoughts?

They mentioned in an interview that they wouldn’t do any balancing at all until they were done fixing the bugged skills. There’s still a ton of bugged skills btw.

It can’t even be a “Race” to E-sport-ness. LoL is an e-sport, the biggest one in the world right now, supplanting even SCII as the most popular game in South Korea. It used to do balance patches every 2 weeks (they’ve since slowed down), but that didn’t affect their E-sport status. If GW2 can’t be considered an e-sport right now, I think one could expect a possibility that it might not be an e-sport ever, or at least not within the near future.

Saying if GW2 is not an e-sport now it wont be is just ridiculous. When LOL came out it was not a massive e-sport. LOL was just another MOBA trying to do better than DOTA. LOL grew a player base and slowly moved up the ladder into the e-sport it is today. Also saying LOL is bigger than SC II is just crazy and not true.

Now at the OP. I have only seen fixes to make the skills work as intended. There has not been fixes that were specific to pvp or pve.

Clearly they don’t have the team size required to bug fix adequately, let alone implement new features or address balance issues.

While some of that is true, a lot of the skill “adjusting” has been completely mirroring the reaction to the PvP metagame. As an example, the Thief elite skill called Basilisk Venom has been altered many times in response to popular PvP builds and from PvP related complaints. The most recent 10/7 patch was the latest insult to injury for the skill. Now it will never be realistically used in PvP and it remains in a gutted state for PvE use.

That’s what people are complaining about. This is what I forsaw ArenaNet doing back during the development stages. I have issues with this since I’m here for the PvE and I get hacked off when PvPers ruin my gameplay through a ripple effect. However I thought that ArenaNet was rather up front about running things this way. My opinion was that the PvE was still good enough to buy the game even after this glaring flaw. To date, I’ve still be very satisfied with my purchase. Yet the issue still remains and the complaints of PvEers about ArenaNet’s skill “adjustments” are quite valid.

We are Test Group F. (Don’t ask about what happened to the previous Test Groups.)

I strongly desire a return of the GW1 style split between PvE and PvP skills. It would resolve a lot of the complaints and issues. The only problem is the extra time spent balancing each one.

Honestly I think GW2 first and foremost is a PvP game. I really think that’s the end game design goal and where it’ll shine long term down the road. So PvE skill use, while it’ll always be considered, will likely take a back seat to skill balance for PvP.

It is a valid complaint though.
