I managed to grab my second Spark today from Zommoros, and my guildies also got Spark and Zap (and then made Bolt). I’m not sure if the RNG gods are shining their light upon us, or if the update did something to the drop rates. With all the wackiness that’s happened today, and still is happening, I’m tempted in investing in a ton of Exotics to test out the Mystic Forge rates.

Has anyone felt unnaturally lucky today?

Err well, I haven’t had a precursor in 3 years until last weekend, chucked 5k gold in chunky intervals and about 30k mixed tokens over that time for nothing. I was actually throwing in an inventory full of crappy dire/shamans exotics that probably amounted to 35/40g and Storm pooped out for a Legendary I’ve already made ¯\(?)/¯

Too bad I’ve already bought all the remaining precursors, I feel like the kid that didn’t get any christmas presents but now I’m 40 years old and married I get a lego firetruck in the mail from my parents.

I don’t know about the mystic forge, but I salvaged 23 rares earlier (mystic kit) and none of them gave me less than 1 ecto. I never had a streak like that before. I also got 2 exotics out of 3 champion bags minutes before that.

Speaking of champ bags, I ended up getting about 3 or 4 Exotics from my stack bags from SW chest runs tonite. In the past, I was lucky if I got just 1 Exotic from a couple of stacks.

Maybe Evon Gnashblade did something that increased drop rates across the board. I wouldn’t be surprised, since he’s best charr.

probably placebo. I bet that just as many people can come here and say that mf give less exotics or that they salvaged 10 rares and got no ectos since the patch.

Yeah my lucks been horrible last couple days, haven’t tracked it specifically but I’ve gotten hardly any ecto from a couple dozen rares.
No I don’t think somethings broken, I just had a run of bad luck.
Previous week I was 5/10 for the 10 mystic clover recipe, which I consider pretty good (no idea on actual reality of that but I was happy so)
And I got an actual exotic drop (errol’s Mask) while doing the Balth Temple event, from some random mob. That was shocking, I haven’t seen much in the way of exotics in ages except what I forge.

If it was “raining precursors”, wouldn’t it be showing up on the trading post in terms of increased supply and dropping prices? Checking Spark and 2 others, I only see normal fluctuations. Supply is about what it has been for many months. From this I would say your theory is incorrect.

Random doesn’t mean average. Random means sometimes you’re average, sometimes you’re extraordinarily lucky, sometimes you’re extraordinarily unlucky.

Tell people to place pennies randomly on a piece of paper, and they tend to place them spaced roughly equally apart. That’s not random. Random is some pennies are far from other pennies, while some are right next to each other, and others have intermediate spacing.

PS I always enjoy your threads, Smooth Penguin. You always find a new way to stir up responses, even though your other posts prove you know that streaks are common, whether of good or ill luck.

Not since the karka event, but then again I had to work that weekend. My guildies got quite the few of them though .

nope, no spikes in the market for precursors, no increased amounts of them so no I don’t think it’s raining precursors.

Here’s the thing. I don’t believe in “lucky accounts”, nor am I really inherently lucky. I’ve tossed hundreds upon hundreds of Rare and Exotic Greatswords into the MF, and never got anything back. Never. The only time that I end up getting Precursors is right after a buggy update. That’s why I’m questioning if anyone felt like they were luckier than normal in the past 24 to 48 hours.

John would never intentionally increase drop rates on luxury goods. My theory is that the internal mechanism that controls the world’s RNG for the Mystic Forge was affected by the Tuesday update.

I think you’re on to something here. It seem that stacking the inventory with materials give a higher droprate of precursors! Or maybe it’s using a bank char that isn’t played often, or maybe a special char that have all the luck. Or standing facing west, well as a general direction at least

Nah, It’s just GW2 RNG which I will agree doesn’t feel much like real RNG at all. I’ve had a Dawn once (not since the patch) from a MF daily with 3 cheap exotics and a mystic stone. Didn’t feel lucky at all, just weird to get it that way.
