Random harassment on the LFG
As above, you’re not allowed to name and shame (you might be honest but screenshots can be faked, you know, to get innocent people in trouble).
All you can do is report and block. If you don’t know them, then it’s impossible for us to guess why they did it.
ANet may give it to you.
One of the problems with “naming and shaming” (among others!) is that it doesn’t really help. The game is large enough that we probably won’t run into those people, and even if we do, we’re unlikely to recognize them, unless we each keep a personal black list and check their account names against it every time we form a party.
If you have a bad experience with people, report them through the in-game system and block them. You won’t have to deal with them anymore, and their behavior gets logged in case it’s a pattern of abuse that needs to be dealt with by the game’s administrators.
I can’t comment on your own experience, because I wasn’t there, but remember that there’s always going to be a few bad apples, wherever you go and whatever you do. The best you can do is move on and not give them a second thought.
I say we go on a witch hunt! Grab your pitchforks (tridents) and Silverwaste shovels lads! Now once we get hold of them we need to let a group of Asuras ( as they’re the most alien looking race) probe them up the back-passage til they…..ok yea I struggle being serious like EVER.
On a ‘serious’ note though, I got some abuse too from a f2p player a while back when I was talking to people in map chat (he decided to whisper me). He told me to shut up and go kill myself. After he used an abusive word that’s used to badly describe disabled people I told him I was glad that messaged me and continued to do so as it meant I could report his account
He then tried digging himself out and told me that it was all a big ‘joke’ blah blah blah. Just block and report those people, move on and know that at the end of the day it won’t be long before they’re banned as a result of their behaviour.
Edit: apparently we are not allowed to let fellow players know about these issues, so I have deleted my post + screenshots. I do not see what I would gain from faking screenshots and creating this post on a day where I just want to chill and play gw2 but alright, let’s protect these people.
Ok. Let’s turn it around. Let’s say one of those people came to the forum with faked screenshots that showed you cussing, insulting, gold buying, and talking about real life crimes you have committed and whatever else they thought of and told everyone to block and report you. If naming and shaming wasn’t against the rules, they could do this as often as they wanted.
Now do you see why you can’t name and shame?
ANet may give it to you.
@ OP after the change.
All you had to do was cover their names. Not remove everything entirely.

Yeah, all we said was to remove the names, not the entire post. And we also told you how you can make sure those players are reported to Anet. But if you’d rather be passive aggressive about it, feel free.
“Simply create a new account” is not necessarily as simple as you think it to be. You’d have to shell out money for the new one, unless you take a seriously restricted f2p one. All your achievements, money, items and progress is lost. Unless you’re a totally new player, that stings.
And from your stance, we should throw all possible innocent people who get now harassed by fake naming and shaming on the forums under the bus, just so we can look at some real perpetrators with contempt, which they probably don’t give a (little kitty) about?
As much as I’d like to call out people who can’t behave, the rule is not about protecting them. It’s about protecting others from the misuse of it. The real perpetrators will have to deal with consequences of reports.

I understand and respect the reason this sort of rule is in place and did not need your example. However, seen from a case-by-case perspective it is really just protecting these people from public scrutiny, which imho they do deserve if they decide to spend their time going around heavily verbally abusing people they don’t know.
Either way I have nothing to add and obviously have blocked these people. I am out of here.
As a case by case perspective, it’s actually more about protecting innocent people from public ridicule and humiliation from those who would falsely name and shame, which apparently not as important to you as public scrutiny of the few that misbehave since you continue to defend it since “they deserve it”.
ANet may give it to you.
