Ranged Tank Profession
I think you can do it with any profession, even guardian.
Not sure why you want to take damage, as opposed to avoid it. Or why if you’re at range you’re planning on taking a bunch of damage.
Engineers can get really really damage resistant, and of course operate at range.
Well Warriors just got a buff to Range, so there’s that.
You can just run as a Range Warrior. You do more damage with a Bow than a Ranger does or use a Rifle and Snipe people for 10-20k damage.

EVERYONE does more damage than a Ranger does, no matter the weapon :p

Really? WOw thats a shame..How could a warrior with a bow do more damage than a ranger with a bow..doesn’t seem right :|

I just mean when it comes to the Ranger’s “main” weapon. You would think that a Ranger would be the best when it comes to using Bows, as that is their weapon of choice. :P

Yeah it’s a weird story (from my understanding). Rangers kept getting nerfed cause they were the profession of choice for Bots (again, from my understanding. I may be wrong). Then they went and buffed Warriors this last patch, and now they outshine everything in terms of damage overall (which they were already doing before, but guess they needed another buff. One of those flavor of the month things I guess).

Kill shot was awful and not worth the time it took to get the adrenaline. It was better to just stay at max adrenaline and make use off the traits with increasing benefits off of adrenaline.
As far as I know, ranger shortbow and longbow have not been touched since release.
Warrior ranged still isn’t as good as warrior melee. Nobody’s range is as good as melee. Its a little weird to wrap your head around it at first, since a lot of people seem to make rangers or elementalist with the intent of being “high, safe from danger DPS” and it turns out they need to be in melee range to do so like everyone else.

This is mostly true in what it asserts, but it takes it too far. I get what you mean though.
Melee is rewarded by being stronger overall. It’s just devestating if you don’t get away from it.
Range is safer. It does damage just the same, and mitigates the aforementioned melee.
The ranged classes such as necro or ranger do get their range, but that doesn’t mean they can just sit there and press attack without a care.
No class let’s you sit still.
Every profession will have you moving around and switching all the time and if you don’t, you’re medicore at the best of times, you have nice friends who take care of you, or your dead.
What you arm yourself with determines what kind of distance you can enjoy.
The enemy can always close that distance or play with some range themselves, and unless you want to be dead real soon, you will always be moving around.
In this dance of combat, you will find yourself in melee range at times whether you like it or not. That’s just the nature of fluid combat.
If someone is coming at you with a melee weapon, you’re going to be in melee range until you can get some distance or pound them back.
If they want to hit you with that melee weapon, they’re going to close that distance as best they can or supplement distance gained with some range of their own.
If you can put even some of this into practice, you’ll be better then so many players who think and play very single mindedly. I used to play this way.
When you ‘get’ it, you got it.
I didn’t say that they can sit at 1200 ranged and just auto-attack, I said that it seems that people intend to roll traditional long ranged DPS classes so they can put out high numbers while minimizing the risk, and that GW2 does not support that.
What does “Ranged Tank” mean to you? To me, it means that under all circumstances, the TC wants to maximize survival, combining tankiness with being far away from danger.
