Q:
Ranger or Guardian?
If you want to work your kitten off to be useful then pick a ranger, otherwise just roll a guard.
Do you only play pve? Then a Guardian is the “best” choice, if you do wvw also a Guardian.
Guardian all the way!
‘would of been’ —> wrong
Personally, I struggle to play my Guardian because I find it boring. I’m 42 levels in with him, and I still don’t feel like I’ve settled into what part of the class I like, and I’m starting to wonder if I ever will.
I’m sure you can find plenty of strong opinions about the balance of ranger, but I’ve enjoyed it a lot more than I have my Guardian so far. A lot of it comes down to personal preference, so I’d recommend picking whichever one appeals to you most, then seeing how you enjoy it in action.
I have no problems with my Ranger in PvE, and I enjoy pet classes. They’re always my first choice.
I say roll the ranger. That way you’ll have toons in all 3 armor classes.
I love my ranger.
Always hard for us to make your choice, OP..
Ask yourself the following: What playstyle do you like the best? Would you rather be the heavy armoured tank with decent heals (guardian) or do you like the thought of medium armour more? Also, do you want to get into melee for fights, or do you feel more comfortable at range?
50% of people here will answer guardian, 50% will answer ranger. But the power of the final choice is in your hands.. :-)

i have a lvl80 ranger and a lvl80 guard and personally… i die a LOT more on my guardian than on my ranger. i also find ranger more fun in both wvw and pve. my guardian is a shouts build and my ranger is an offensive tank build in knights gear with zerk trinkets, sb/gs combo and 30/0/30/10/0 trait setup. just be warned rangers seem to be targetted in wvw first a lot lately for some reason.

Submit to your warrior and guardian overlords. No point in rolling anything else.
Pretty much what you’re going to read in this thread: Stick with your Warrior and level your Guardian.
Get used to playing those classes because any other class and you have to pull more than your weight in dungeons just to prove to the Warriors and Guardians that you’re good enough to do level 1 fractals. (ok that was an exaggeration, but still)
I wonder if Anet even knows that’s how people view the end game. 2 Guardians, 2 Warriors, and a wild card (Mesmer or Thief, sometimes even another Guardian and Warrior).
Anyone who pugs a lot usually dislikes seeing anything other than those two classes, with the rare exception of Mesmers depending on which dungeon you’re running.
It’s because of survivability and group synergy. When you make a mistake on your Elementalist you’re going down. Where as on your warrior you just heal and keep going because some classes can take a hit or two and be ok, where other classes can’t. If you’re down or dead, you’re not doing the damage you should be doing and slowing the group down.
Then there is group Synergy. Warriors bring banners (power, crit, crit damage) to the whole group. When you get classes that can’t support the group by providing buffs or reflects, there’s little reason to want them in the group.
I feel like Anet didn’t think about this during the development of the game, and now there’s the stigma where you need to do Dungeons on a select few classes so you feel like you’re not gimping your team, or you get people who think those are the only worthwhile classes, and mock the ones you refuse to give in to the meta.
/end of rant.
