Ranger + pet blast
A long time ago we figured out how pets chose their skills (I don’t know if it has changed since.) The key is the distance between the pet and the target and whether the skill is ready to use.
If the pet is within the range of their auto-attack (130) when it tries to attack, it is basically random which of their skills they will use (because they are all in range.)
If you are at a range where the pet only has 1 viable option (a 350 range leap or a 230 range tail lash) then the pet will use that skill first. For example. If you are standing the correct distance away from an enemy and swap to a canine pet, it will use its leap attack first (if it isn’t on cooldown). It takes some practice and it helps if you can remember which side your pet will spawn on. If that particular pet will spawn front left of you, then a simple turn to the left can put its spawn points far enough from the target right next to you, to get it to use the leap. It takes practice. Some pet skills have additional requirements (moa needs to be injured for it to try to use its aoe heal).
I’m pretty sure drakes can be done on command, but a little tricky because of the 225 range and the field requirement, but larger bonfires and larger traps help with that. You may want to start keeping your pet on passive and actively starting it attacking when you want your first blast.
Hahaha – AI improvements in gw2 ??
This comedian!!!!!
Welcome to ranger extra effort for minimal effect.
Also don’t yet get into the timing habit yet for blasting fire trap, the proposed trap changes will have you need to relearn the timing.

Well yes kind of heard about it, would make this type of combo even harder to control I guess.
Does any ranger out there actually managed to control tail slash as a combo blaster,
since the only other blast is the one from “call of the wild”?
I tried it a bit more and well it’s pretty random misterdevious is probably right from what I saw, but having the drake appear at the exact distance for it to make the slash be the first used skill is just like rolling dice for me.
I also tried to launch the trap as soon as I see the drake animation of tail slash but it is too fast for the trap to be launched and detonated.

What would be extremely nice though would to be able to see the pet’s cooldowns and if it would use the slash skill in priority as soon as it is available again, I could then eventually think about timing it right by lauching the trap 2-3 secondes in advance of the end ot the cooldown.
