Q:

I just wonder, is it only me or does others feel as well that when creating a new additional character, you feel incomplete if you don’t re-explore Tyria. Feeling obliged to re-explore to feel satisfied and to unlock elite specializations?

Personally for me, it would be amazing that when creating additional characters, all waypoints, vistas, masteries, etc.. that was already explored from previous characters, are unlocked for that new character. Especially, that time isn’t on my favor.

What do you guys think? Do you feel the same way as me?

Well open-world PvE is my favourite part of the game, so if I didn’t explore the world on every character I wouldn’t have much to do with them. The only time I don’t do it is when I’m making a temporary character for one specific purpose (which is also the only time I use tomes of knowledge to level them up).

But to me your suggestion sounds kind of contradictory – if you want to explore on a new character why would want to skip a huge chunk of it by having it unlocked automatically? Surely that stops you being able to explore it again?

I absolutely love map completion (I accidentally the whole thing six times) and would be sad if i could not map complete. :<

Maybe an item that could grant you what you wish, at the cost of sacrificing map rewards, including gifts of exploration.

This is so highly dependent on each persons perspective, impossible to ever come to a consensus about it.

Personally I loved exploring the world and map complete. On my first character. Once I completed it on him, I never felt the need or wish to do it ever again, in fact I’ve become near allergic to renown hearts :p

When making a new character and leveling,I tend to just run through 90% of the maps, picking up all the hero points, and most of the WP, and little else. Just open the map on the wiki on my other screen, plot out a path that will get me those, and just run through it. (exploration xp, wp + hp xp, those alone for all maps tend to be enough to hit 80 anyways, with about 200 hp).

So I don’t really care one way or another myself, but having all wp etc auto known would actually lock me from a good bunch of xp to level my toon with.

I think the best compromise would be to unlock 1 WP on each map you’ve map completed, so you at least can go to whatever map you’ve done. But even that is stretching it a bit.

PS: Personally would much rather they just stopped giving out those 20/30/40 scrolls on b-days, and rather just let “veterans” that have already done map completion and a level80 toon or something with 1+ year old accounts, create new characters and just autostart them at 20 (or 30/40 etc). And stop cluttering us with the scrolls. Those of us that likes making new characters to test out things, but are sick of leveling 1-20 etc.

Once you have completed a map to 100% for the first time, the “Map” of that place should become possibly to be bought from a new NPC, that sells the maps you have explored to 100% for some gold, so that you become able to unlock everything of these already explored again maps faster.

That would improve multi character friendliness in GW2 again and it would add some kind of new gold sink into the game for those people, which want to save some time by buying exploration maps.

win win for everyone + new gold sink. What do we want all more???

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

I love this idea of being able to buy maps for alts after you’ve done 100% map completion on some characters! This should be added as a suggestion topic or if there’s a thread ideas that devs read! Like you say it works for everyone, if you want to do map completion from scratch you can, or if you want to then you can buy it at cost. I wouldn’t even mind if you could buy a ‘full 100% complete map set’ via the gemstore (Still with the criteria it only works if you have at least done 100% on one char first).

I’d like to be able to reset map completion on my characters, map by map, so I could do it again on the same characters. It always irritates me a bit when I go to a map and see it all completed, which is why, despite having played since launch and having many Level 80s, I have never done global map completion on any of them. I’d be much more likely to finish it on a specific character if I knew I could switch it off and start again.

I’d make it optional, though, with a simple “Clear Map Completion” toggle in Options.
