Not much different than the “lf2 war or guard only” or “lfm full exotics only” I’ve seen for weeks now. There are people like that in every game, I’m just happy they advertise their douchiness so I never have the “privilege” of grouping with them.

Armor still matters a great deal, even if you are upleveled or downleveled. The only solution to this in game design is to make leveling and gearing an afterthought to other gameplay elements. GW2 obviously failed in this regard, and will be remembered as such.

The difference now is its 100% certain that the stats matter. There was at least some wiggle room before. And since exotics were fairly easy to get even for a casual (2 months for most casuals to gear out if they really try) they had a chance to catch up without NEEDING to do the dungeon.

Now by the time the casuals get the exotics. it will be

“LF2m +10agony only”

which can only be gotten from the dungeons they cannot get a group for and the casuals will never be able to play unless someone takes pity on them.

Yeah.. great system.

The thought process for those players is that they don’t want to play with “noobs” so instead of giving a player a chance to see how he/she does they try to judge people by some artificial number which in no way or form really tells you anything about players ability to finish a dungeon.

Ignore people who won’t play with you, and play with people who will. No “tool” will solve this, if it’s such a wide spread problem that keeps you from playing, THEN YOU are a problem! Otherwise join the vast amounts of people who post on the forums here, complain about it, and say they would never do it….

No LFG tool will help you find what you can’t now, I know because I’m Maina and I’m a dungeon noob.

When there is a large difference in the ability to attain armour by players, it becomes the easiest way to differentiate experienced players from inexperienced ones.

Ability to attain armor doesn’t really tell you much about a player. Hell, I’ve seen level 40s play smarter and better than some of 80s in dungeon gear.

The difference is that now, they’re the ones on the home turf. The game is going be designed for this mindset going forward, and they are going to become the mainstream player. The rest of us will be stuck with what was available at release, because all new content is going to be tuned to the higher level gear.

But i wonder if they know after all these, will we buy The Expansion???

It is a 80’s only dungeon actually… after this weekend you can’t enter unless your 80.

Second. Its their group, they can take who they want to take.

Third if your not 80 you really are the weak link in the group because you are missing stats, regardless of if you were scaled up. Thats how it was built….. and being how you can’t drop someone if they are no good they are committing to each person being able to pull their own weight. And not wasting everyone else’s time.

I think its awfully selfish to think you are entitled. If you started a group and didn’t want a ranger because pets are a pain and they do bad dps….. well how is that any different then them not wanting non 80’s.

This has been a trend since GW2 went live infact…. LFM xxxx exp mode. No xxxxxx class.

Even more so for the people who don’t play for 12 hours a day, aka casuals, who don’t have the luxury of being able to minmax at will and that is the exact kind of person that gets screwed when a system like this becomes the norm. Eventually it gets so bad that new people don’t feel welcome enough to stick around, the community stagnates and then the game dies.

You don’t need to play 12 hours a day to be 80 and fully geared….

Infact look at it this way. Say my group is fully geared, I have 2 hours to play…. do I A. pick up some random pug player that isn’t even 80? Or B. Pick someone that has actually hit 80 and has gotten end game gear?

Hmmm well if I am trying to maximize my play time and enjoyment with fellow players I wont be picking you non 80 because its likely things won’t go smoothly and my 2 hours of play time just turned into UGHHHHH /log off.

And there is NOTHING wrong with that. Want to play in groups that want 80’s only? level up and get your gear… not like its time consuming nor hard…. if you don’t want to fine, start your own group with your own rules. Lvl 1 fractals non 80’s only! Think anyone is going to come to the forums and complain people are making non 80 groups? Hell no.

Why make the dungeons get harder, and then have gear that makes each “harder” tier just as easy as the first tier? Couldn’t the gear grind folks have stayed with WoW?

And these requirements just create gating, and a required gear grind, which is exactly what so many were worried about with the announcement of “progression”. But apparently some players need bigger and bigger numbers (which are ultimately meaningless) because… I dunno, they don’t have jobs so need to game to be turned into work?

Today I was in a group with two uplevels. One was even a warrior. We were doing the one where you get stacks of frostbite if you are not close to a fire. I was out in the cold killing mobs with 15 stacks of frostbite. I am an elementalist. These warriors are standing next to the fire barely keeping their health above 20%, dying every so often.

There is a reason people say 80+ only, though I think your team not being completely inept matters more.

Btw. I dont care if they add new tiers of gear, but adding it so that the ONLY way to get it is by playing 600 rounds of dungeon crawlers in a game that has some of the worst PvE ever. No thanks. Let people sell it on the market so I can still have my wvw armor and the dungeon weenies can make money.

I don’t know why some people were crying on the forum, to add a pointless gating mechanic, when all this “progression” is… is just repeating the same thing. It doesn’t matter if the dungeon is harder, if you have gear that negates the increased difficulty. Whats the point, other than the fact you cried and spammed the forums about needing bigger and bigger numbers?

My cut off for player levels in this dungeon is nothing less than level 65. By that time hopefully the person has all of their good skills purchased with at least 1 elite and a decently fleshed out build. The upleveling that happens does nothing for missing skills and no build points, which do make a difference in how effective and helpful you are to the group. If that makes me a kitten then so be it.

First, people have always set “rules” to join groups. There is nothing any developer can do to stop this. As pointed out, it’s my time, I get to choose how I use it and who I use it with.

Second, this entire update was centered around people wanting to grind and feel some sort of progress outside of their in-game wallets getting fatter. Don’t like to grind things out? Too casual a player to bother with planning and dedicating time to your character’s stats? Don’t run the dungeon for the higher levels and said grind/gear.

Third, Agony isn’t the only thing that makes higher levels of Fractals “harder”. Aside from that, it’s resistance currently cannot hit 100%. So it’s still going to happen.

Fourth (and the kicker), why don’t the “casuals” actually group up? Why bother complaining about the limits on other groups? If the “casual” playerbase is large enough to justify all this hate for the “progression”, then it should be large enough so sustain it’s own groups. Actually be community driven, come together, form Guilds and Alliances. But, no, you’d rather complain that some random person doesn’t like your pixels.

What you don’t understand is that ANET plans on using agony in future content updates to “keep the progression going”

What about my post makes you think that I don’t understand that? Honest question. Think about it. The “Agony mechanic” equals, the further you progress in difficulty, the higher chance a debuff has of being triggered. I said “if you don’t like progression, don’t do it”. Currently, if you don’t like the Agony debuff, you simply don’t go that high a level. What I foresee is ArenaNet adding more dungeons like Fractals, where they get harder (and insert Agony) the more you beat it. It’s a great idea. This way all those that like to stay still and not “progress” their stats can keep playing the easier version AND those that like to grind out them stats get to use them for more challenges. This is their attempt to please both groups of players. Again, a great idea. And by “keep progression going” I see them simply making it that the more stuff the add the sooner such mechanics kick in. Eventually you’ll just have level one difficulty if you want to avoid it. Maybe they’ll force it, but that just means you get to skip that dungeon. Would you be missing out on some fun? Possible, but you’re choosing to stay stagnant so it most likely won’t be your kind of fun.

Don’t get me wrong. I love a good challenge, but I also some times just want to relax. All I have to do is find a few people with a mood that matches mine and use the up/down arrows on instance access. That’s not all that hard to do. Which is what this thread was supposed to be about: grouping based on people’s limits.

Well, partying with a level 80 gives a higher chance that he/she is experienced handling his/her class thus making runs smooth as possible.

I don’t mind partying with upleveled/low leveled person, but the thought of him/her dragging the whole party down due to lack of experience, is a bit, well, so to speak – annoying.

Example:

I have a consistent party at AC. All of us are 80, but all of us knew how to handle our classes. We finish between 20-30mins per path (I know, not the best time but we run through it smoothly, barely ressing someone.). One day, 2 of our regulars are not available so we resorted shouting at LA. 2 low level joined us – no worries, as long as we fill up 4-5 person party.

They literally have no idea what is going on. We are not mad, we are very understanding – we even teach them techniques. But the point is, what if we want a fast run and someone was dragging us behind the clock?

See the point? Don’t blame players for not accepting a non max level player. You cannot see what experience the other player has, so naturally, character level will be the initial basis.

Now, if you are going to argue “why don’t you try bringing them in to see what they are capable of?” – if they are good, fine. But what if they are completely ignorant? Kick them and find new ones? Reboot party? Answer: Waste of time. Waste of momentum.

If ANET doesn’t require you to have ascended gear and upgrades to even have a shot at completing the new content, then its not progression. If ANET does that, then its content gating. ANET was supposedly against content gating.

I don’t think people are 100% blaming the players for this happening. The problem is that anet created a situation where this would be inevitable. They did a pretty good job before now limiting it (exp dungeons had a bit of it but it was mild). While the per dungeon progression has some good features (no do x dungeon then y then z and good luck if you haven’t done x yet) it seems to be amplifying the lfg option.

How many LFM and LFG spams do you see in /map and how many of them are mutually exclusive due to the fractal level requirement? They took all the minor problems and greatly amplified them.

The way I’m approaching this is by being fine with any fractal level at or below my max because frankly I’m looking to have fun, no rush to the highest arbitrary number possible. I’m hoping more people realize this too as it might make finding groups much easier in the long term. (I’m ignoring anet fixing this as they don’t seem inclined to at this point since for one reason or another they’re after population numbers.)

Except, as you level up, not being level 80 will make it to where you die all the time. More mobs that hit harder = more headache if you don’t meet the min requirement.

Can’t wait until ANET adds the next content and you’ll see “GLFM Ascended ring and back piece only” because, without it, the same thing will happen.

At this point might as well give ele’s the ability to create portals to the major cities, necros the ability to summon people, mounts-heck FLYING mounts. They could sell them babys like hotcakes. And if they did what could you say? You don’t like it? It’s too much like that other game? It’s not what they led you to believe when you bought the game? Pandora’s box (pun intended) has been opened.

…you could just make your own group with no level restriction instead of trying to change someone else.

Here’s what people thought of GW1 when it first came out: http://tinyurl.com/bntcvyc
“A release is 7 days or less away or has just happened within the last 7 days…
These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”

Until you realize the dungeon never resets in difficulty and there is no-one else around to play with.

Since the grind is now prohibitive to having alts. People will do mains and the difficulty will have a mean eventually, going up and up as more people get to higher levels of it.

Unless you are in a dungeon guild… or have someone take pity on you.

Please get your priorities straight Anet.
Stat increase = gear grind.
Gear grind = no money from me ever again.

Except the majority of the player base doesn’t want to do level under them. Not only do the rewards get better in quality, finally getting a decent amount of yellows per run after hitting level 6, but so does your chance of getting Essence which is required to make the ascended back pieces. RNG FTL
