Alright, so I’m not entirely sure where I should put this post. I’m currently working on learning some 3D modeling, for a personal project of mine. In doing so though, I decided to start off with something simple, like a coin.

So, This is a general question to everyone (and A-Net specifically to make sure they wouldn’t have a problem with me doing this), is this something you’d like to see done? I’ve found a few places that would take my 3D models and create them for me, this would be payed out of my own pocket, of course, and not sold.

The work is coming along nice, but I want to make sure Anet doesn’t have a problem with me doing this, I wouldn’t be selling it or turning a profit in any way. I would just be creating a cool little nicknack from one of my favorite games.

One side features the half ArenaNet logo present on the achievement icon in GW2, and the other half, will feature the stylized 2 in the Guildwars 2 logo

Much better, thank you

Worst comes to worst, I’ll do this – Though, I’m not sure if it’s an issue because it would be for personal use? I’m not entirely sure if it’s considered “Goods” in that context

I emailed Anet to use a GW2 wallpaper in a personalized credit card and they said it was ok.

Would be extremely cool if I could have RL figurines of my characters.

Apologies to those who may find my posts on GW2 forums offensive and hateful.

The problem is once you use someones IP (Intellectual Property) (or copyright) it instantly maintains the value of that person. So what you make does have value, the laws state you can’t sell it, but Arenanet would like to know about it. Because after all you wouldn’t want someone taking your 3d work and putting your name on it assuming your famous someday, and then debating on making profit from it. I’m definitely not saying that’s what your doing, just showing how they see it. When you create something that others value, you really want to protect that. Because you have given it value, and that value will fluctuate based on how people receive it.

That would be really neat, but a lot trickier I would think. You’d have to be really good at modelling to do that yourself like I am with this coin

Edit: Went ahead and emailed them myself

I know it’s a double post – but I didn’t want to start a new thread. Showing off what I have so far, it’s untextured and it needs more work (and a flip side) But coming great so far. I can’t wait to have this made!

Hey MossyStump,

If your thinking of going down the modeling road for a career a good idea is to help out on a Mod of a game. There are plenty of them about and tend to always be looking for people to chip in. This would be really good for you as it will help you learn about all the issues faced by game modelers like poly count, texturing and unwrapping, animating and so on in a pressure free and usually helpful environment. It may be not what your looking to do but games and films are using more and more 3D models, if you have something under your belt or a portfolio it will help a lot getting into Uni or a job.

I like being well-rounded in my abilities. I want to be a software or game programmer when I grow up though. I’ve mostly worked with Actionscript 3, but I know C++ and VB6, and I’ve won a state-level Skills USA Computer Programming competition, so I’m on my way.

Mossy,

Have you ever taken a look at the Elder scrolls games. It is i think the most modded game there is, with probably the biggest modding community out there going all the way back to Morrowid. If you have the 3d moddeling knowledge it’s fairly easy to make whole new 3d models and place them ingame. Could provide you with the portfolio Cardstar metioned.

Take a look at http://www.nexusmods.com/ what you can do modelling wise for the Elder scrolls & Fallout games.

I like the idea of RL trinkets. I hope they let you do this!
what would be cool is if Anet made something like these, but somewhat personalized to your character, and mailed to you after you complete some huge achievement, like God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals. If they do 3D printing, it could even be an actual figurine of your choice of one of your characters.
