Really trying to enjoy this game
Combat is actually a lot of fun once you stop fighting NPCs
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”
The combat is more involving in this game than most other mmo’s. And as stated above, if you want really challenging combat try PvP. Also helps if you get connected with a guild and play with friends. Between dungeons, events, WvW, and PvP, there is something for everyone.
Some people really enjoy not able to get more powerful equipment, but nice looking. Seems odd, since the game really can be resume to kill other things.
This game shares more to Sims, than the usual MMO. You need to give yourself an objetive. Maybe turning rich? Have a legendary? Run all the world? Run all dungeons? To have the bigger clan? The combat needs indeed a revamp, some classes are very boring (high cooldown, small active bonus)
Say I want to be rich. Is money actually valuable in this game or is it like WoW where it’s pretty pointless. You get all your items from bosses anyhow.
Paze, many people are in your situation. Some people like the game for what it is, some people are in denial because they bought too many gems to leave the game now so they keep playing. Ultimately, it seems like the game isn’t really for you. I stopped playing as well. The game doesn’t know how to give a sense of direction and good rewards in pve. Try the game out and listen to others posting that say they like the game, maybe you will find something you like. But if you don’t, then just know it’s a pretty common complaint from people that stopped playing.
People that stopped playing usually say that they don’t like the game.

you can get almost everything with in-game gold. but becoming rich might be impossible if you dont enjoy trading.
Do jumping puzzles, find a good guild, start running around with people doing fun mostly events and you`ll see why we like it… if you ever played MMO before in your life you`ll know how static and boring the questing system and dungeons are… This game is about having fun doing things with friends, is not grinding everything for ever and ever including skills and traits, we got legendary and ascended, thats enough to grind allready

You get back what you put in. If you want to put around aimlessly not really “doing” anything, you won’t get anything back. Go hard and you’ll get your payday.
I can consistently make up to 150g weekly running dungeons every day. I like dungeons so that’s what I do, and they have guaranteed minimum payouts (about 1.5g per dungeon including reward, daily bonus, and loot satchels). That said, if you only did one dungeon path per day, you’ll still be in the same coach boat while I whip by in first class.
It’s nowhere near as bad as WoW (although I was perhaps doing it wrong, I found most of my income to be from doing my 25/25 dailies rather than actually completing content).

I’m also concerned with character progression in the game but giving your abilities to you do early in the game was a design decision. We need more abilities and traits that take a lot of effort to unlock. That’s a personal opinion though.
If you’re only using 2 skills, you’re either doing it wrong or you’re only doing very low tier content. Once you get to Arah or FotM, you’ll learn to appreciate your other abilities. On a 40-ish FotM run I’m switching between up to 3 different setups.
Like others have already said, the combat is a lot more engaging than most other MMOs because your toon is a lot more fragile and it’s much more dynamic, requiring you to manage DPS, support and healing all at the same time as opposed to just taking one role and leaving the others to other players.
This game may not be for you.
It’s not really designed for people that are looking to set goals and achieve them.
Still enjoying the game here because I don’t set goals for myself. Log on today and just do whatever pops into my head without a care for what the game brings tomorrow.
If you ask me, people spend way too much time ’thinking’ in video games. Remember when you were just a kid and you could play a game just for the sake of playing and the enjoyment? Why do you have to set goals for yourself like this is the real world and you’re on a time budget?
If that’s your style of play, god bless you man but that’s not a good attitude to have in video games seeing as their all pointless beyond enjoyment anyway. Maybe you should consider setting some real life goals for yourself instead.

You need a carrot on the stick, this game is probably not for you. Nothing wrong with that but I would stop playing if in such a short time of gameplay I get bored.
I don’t even think about levels, so I guess I don’t look forward to them at all. I just explore each zone doing dynamic events.
If you spend your time just doing the story mode quests, you will get pretty bored pretty fast.
Also, for combat: Each weapon gives you different skills. That includes off-hand. If you find you are only using two skills (and that only 2 are attack skills), then it sounds like you may want to try a different weapon combo. Assuming you aren’t an elementalist you can also switch between weapons with tilde. That switches you from 5 available skills (excluding function key skills) to 10 available skills, plus your utility skills. You really don’t need more than 15 skills at your disposal at any given time.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
The progression is terrible, the number of skills and builds are awful.
I stopped to play a lot of times because of the this, I have 2 lvl 80 and some cheese and now I don’t know what to do. I am 2 months without playing the game.
“So I’m asking.. What on earth drives you to play this game? What are you looking forward to next level? What kind of short-term goals can you set? It just seems an awful lot of pointless.”
It doesn’t matter what other players find fun or drives them to play this game. The game isn’t for you. This sounds like a cop out but in this case it’s the truth. You’ve left the game 5 times already because you aren’t having fun, you don’t enjoy the game, and you don’t like the combat in general. No matter what drives other players it doesn’t drive you.
GW2 like every other MMO I’ve personally ever played is kind of pointless until you get to max level. Unless you like exploration and questing, if neither of those are appealing then that part of the game falls flat.
This game is the best MMO y have play.
The only fail is the skin meta.
If anet just had like 20 lvls with new skills on them, will bring new life to game.
Of course this 20 levels at least 2 times harder than the currently 80 we have.

What? The combat in this game is literally the most shallow out of every mainstream MMO ever made

It depends where you are.
Try doing the collosus feactal on level 39. Make sure you are or have a few Guardians in your party.

That used to work, but it seems a hotfix increased the explosion damage by a factor of 2-3 and made it unrollable. Now it’s a case of Guardians timing and co-ordinations mass stability and everyone bunkering with guardians applying more protection.
Made it more interesting but I can’t imagine PUGing that on collosus or dredge.
Nice to see them making more content that favors bunker builds though.

Depends what class (profession) you play to be honest. Some are absurdly shallow, while others are harder to play and more complex than anything youll find in any mainstream MMOs.
Im an 8 class 2200-2600 arenaplayer and multiseason hero of the … in wow. I find engineer or elementalist for example far more difficult to play well than anything youll find in wow.

Don’t feel bad, I can’t get into it either. I really do not like the combat system in GW2, but a lot of other things repulse me as well. Try some other MMO’s for awhile: You’ll find one you enjoy.
