ArenaNet stated that on Monday, the Mystic Forge recipe to create the Mystic Chest will be deactivated.

Hello all, I have an announcement. On Midnight PDT Monday, the temporary Mystic Forge recipes that create Mystic Chests will come to an end. The Mystic Chests were fantastic and served their purpose, but their time is over. Players may still combine the ingredients from existing Mystic Chests, but no more chests will be created (John Smith, ArenaNet).

Note how he uses the word “temporary” to describe the recipe. Why was this recipe temporarily in game to begin with? John also states that the “Mystic Chests were fantastic and served their purpose”. What purpose did ArenaNet hope they would serve? The items retrieved from these chests are used to create the Mystic Forge Conduit and apparently “their time is over”. Why are they removing the ability for portable Mystic Forges to be created by the players?

If anybody has some answers or if a developer would like to give us some clarification regarding this situation, I would be happy!

Perhaps they were designed to remove large amounts of crafting materials?

IIRC you need several stacks of certain crafting materials to make the portable forges. It’s possible that on monday they plan to change the drop rate of these materials (I believe a recent update made them drop like crazy out of every “bag” that monsters dropped)

Zenyatoo,

That is something that I never thought of and it makes perfect sense. With the massive influx of new players due to launch, lots of low-level crafting materials would have been gathered.

This very well may have been a way to get most of those low-level materials off the market so it can begin to stabilize.

Thanks for your post.

Yeah, I just know that my friends were complaining about their mountains of butter since it started to drop out of the bags. Thats when I told them about the portable forges, and how they needed several stacks of it. I think it was just a way to help equalize out the amount of specific crafting materials that had insane rates from the bags.

I’d like to know how the node/conduits and their parts are going to be affected, if at all. They will remain completely unbound after the chests are turned off, correct? Able to trade among the players?

Not sure what you mean by “mud bricks”, but I am spending all my money on the materials to make Mystic Chests.

Since they will be extremely rare in the future, they will go for tons of money.

I plan to profit on it sometime in the future.

It’s in reference to a guild wars 1 thing.

“During the GameSpy Developers Chat on May 11 2007, Eric Flannum whispered “Buy mud bricks now!!!” before getting smacked by Ben Miller. "

They were removed from the game on May 29, 2008.

I was making a joke that players should do what you just said you were going to do, that is, stock up on an item that’s about to go exclusive.
