1. Oculus Rift.

That is all

Alright Ill add a bit more. in the recent interview they talked about how beautiful the game art and world is. I want to walk through it, I want to look around the world and be fully immersed in the way only the Oculus can provide.

Their reasons for this one are lame as well. Fact is, if I am playing a FPS I cannot see behind me either for someone about to gank me, etc. I have to rely on some combat instincts, luck, and skill to keep myself alive. If someone chooses to play that way, then more power to them. I’m getting real tired with Anet telling people how to play the game.

I don’t think that reason justifies the need for a first person view. If anything, the game is meant to be played in the third-person. If there is a more appropriate reason for the need of a first-person view is so that better screenshots can be made.

I agree I think dodging in FPV would be terrible… also first person really does make it more difficult to know where you can dodge to…

and Im pretty sure jumping puzzles would be down right impossible while in first person view.

you say you want first person view to take better pictures… I want it to walk around in an 3d environment either way neither reason actually improves the quality of game but instead gives us something fun to play with.

I simply want it to look closely at objects and other players in game and to remove myself for screen shots.

While I understand the desire for the rift, that’s another series of issues primarily surrounding combat.

There’s a reason they can say… and a reason they can’t say tied to it.

I actually DO believe that they don’t want to implement 1st person view because of the problems it would create in combat.

The unsaid part is because they hold very little faith that the bulk of the player base would understand what FPV is good for and that they would FLOOD Arena.net bug support claiming their “game is broken because they can’t see anything and everything is messed up and how could you ruin my game with this recent patch…”

In other words, they don’t want to deal with the idiots who wouldn’t know what to do with FPV, and frankly, there’s a lot of idiots out there.

That would be also good for making basic machinima as well. Guild Wars has some pretty set-pieces that can be good for making simple machinima stuff.

Well City of Heroes had first person view, allowing you to zoom in until you are in FPV and they included a command that was bound to a key to allow you to switch between third person and first person. Press the key and BOOM you are in FPV to examine things closely or even play, although your situation awareness is massively reduced. Press the key again and BOOM you are back to your previous TPV to get a grasp of the situation.

And yes on occasion players both zoomed into FPV as well as toggle between modes and became confused thinking TPV was broken. But I think most of the time other players can handle that kind of support, if it was easier to do a search here or if players use the actual support site.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

1.) Jumping Puzzles on big races. The camera clips terribly in tight-spaced JPs.

2.) Screenshots

3.) Looking at the world

4.) Looking at other players

5.) Running around the world exploring

I would love to have FPV. Not for combat really – it would be quite unhandy at that.
However the art in the game is amazing.
Per example: Scarlet’s room holds a lot of interesting stuff, and most of it is really small, there are opened books scattered around at places, there are writings on walls and all that… And I just can’t read it or inspect it up close. And that’s frustrating. Eventually I’ll go to reddit to see if anyone has datamined the things so I can actually see it.

Also, mob-models. Some of then are really cool, I personally love the mordrem wolves. But just as with other aggressive mobs… I can not get an upclose screenshot from them without my character being somewhere in the screen and often blocking the view.

Looking out over landscapes and wanting to take a screenshot? Nope.

I just want to see the world up close every now and then. :C
(And Anet does have the ability to overwrite our camera at per example boss fights. I could personally live with a trigger to third person when you enter combat. No screenies from mobs, but at least I can see some things up close then.)

This this this.

If we had first person, creating machinimas would be so much better. And if anything would promote it more on YouTube (look at the wow machinimas).

I seriously want to make some movies, but can’t. If people are afraid that it would screw something up, have a check box in settings, default checked, disabling first person.

It’s quite a shame. I would love to explore open-world content with the Point Of View of an Asura or a Norn.

Their reasoning was because they didn’t want players to use FPV for combat, even though most people stated they wanted it for other reasons. /shrug

Yep. Easy. First person view that kicks out when you enter combat.

Number 1 on my list for easy features.

You see me in every one of these threads, don’t you wish I was a dev or something?

This is why I want first person: http://bloogum.net/guildwars/

best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base.”
Pre-launch, Colin listed things that make MMOs bad. They are all now in GW2.
