As we know, Anet added (or rather, will add) red weapons to SAB for doing dailies. While I’m happy to look forward for new rewards this year, this also leaves me insanely disappointed, because the plan was (in 2013) to release Red & Purple weapons with the tribulation mode of W3 & W4.

Now, I’m not really an optimistic person, and my take is on the matter this means we will never get continuation for SAB. I really want to know if this is the case for sure , so I can stop dreaming about it & get disappointed every april.

Arenanet… or should I say Josh. If you’re reading this please reconsider. I don’t think I’d be wrong when I say a substinental amount of people from the community really loves your work, not just W1 but also W2, and I’m one of them.

SAB gave me some of the best memories playing GW2, not just solo experience but also as a party feature. I remember the first time we heard about tribulation mode, and me and 4 of my friends thought the night it was release ( and still we had classes in the morning) “OH WHAT COULD GO WRONG”. Welp, pretty much everything, but that was the best part about it. The first zone took us several hours of cursing and laughing , and only 2 of us made it til the end. And it. was. AWESOME. Dontains video of tribulation mode still is one of my favorite (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvcjIBp0kuA )

Maybe just the nostalgy speaks instead of me. Rose colored glasses like some say, but I genuinely love SAB and all it represents. I really hope the time this year SAB will be up we get a comfirmation wether I’m right or wrong, because one way or another I want to end the dreaming. I’m tired …. its been almost 4 years. ( Funnily enough, anyone heard about CubeWorld? I feel their misery )

I know people are passionate about SAB, but I think fans have overestimated the number of folks that will spend time in it, new world or not. For example, those who hate JPs seem to be just as numerous in the forums (and just as passionate).

I’m not against new worlds and I certainly think ANet should maintain the current SAB indefinitely. However, I can’t agree that adding W3 and beyond would be a good use of ANet’s limited resources.

Yes I’ve read that , but this isn’t just about current development, but also the indefinite future. Back in 2013 they said they plan to do four world altogether, and they also said world 3 will come with red weapons and 4 with purple.

Now that red weapons entered the picture without W3 being added, I fear they permanently decided to cancel all future worlds. Now despise this, there is still a chance W3 & 4 isn’t canceled, but if they are, I don’t want to get disappointed each and every year.

Perphaps, but I can’t be the judge of that. We know the first release of SAB was succesful enough for Arenanet to begin to work on W2 immediately, however W2 wasn’t as successful as they’ve hoped. I’m not sure however they also factored in what they released together with W2 , which might have affected it’s popularity (Ascended material release & crafting for example)

Anyway, what I’m asking here is just a closure. I could live without W3 & W4, but if ArenaNet not only has no plans to create them, but also threw away the idea entirely, I’d like to know that, which, I think, is a fair thing to ask for. Like I said, I don’t want to get disappointed each & every year.

I get that you love SAB, but it’s not a primary, nor even a secondary part of the game. It’s a festivallish minigame with no bearing to the game itself. As it stands, anet has shown that they struggle with the resources to keep up with the primary game and secondary components of the game. So I’m glad they won’t prioritize a tertiary part of the game for the sake of ‘fun’ if it would cost on the quality of the prior. Maybe the next expansion will generate a lot of revenue so they can afford to mess around with tertiary components of the game.
by primary I mean story: Orr, LS1, LS2, HoT, LS3
and by secondary I mean fractals and raids. (And maybe the current events)
Tertiary would be the minigames in LA, as well as SAB, halloween and wintersday.

In that case, comunity itself could help anet to create worlds 3 and 4. I have never played sab before (well, I played yesterday for the first time) and I love it. I think we could create those maps by ourselves, and then give them to anet (we could even do a competition in order to decide which is better). I’d personally love to see moto say that he has been supported by crowfunding or something like that haha. Well, what do you think about it?

Umm, have you even heard of Brad Mcquaid, the guy behind the original everquest, vanguard: saga of heroes and who is now developing pantheon: rise of the fallen?
Yeah, that guy has a FAR worse reputation than GW2 could ever hope to attain even if the developers actively broke the game.

Does GW2 not keep promises? Sure, I’ll agree to that. I’ve personally been burned by a couple of their promises, everyone has. But again, that’s not unique to GW2, by far. Have you HEARD the complaints from vanilla WoW fans? Maybe even fans that go as far as Wrath? Not keeping promises is so prevalent in MMOs specifically because of how long the development time usually lasts when compared to non-online-consistent games. Calling ArenaNet the ‘peter molyneux’ of MMOs is so blatantly false when brad mcquaid holds the reputation that he does.

As for the topic at hand, I hope that the devs eventually get to making world 3 and 4, maybe not for personal reasons (I didn’t really enjoy it but i’d be willing to try it again), but they started out with an idea, I hope they finish it. They’ve been good with tying up a few loose threads recently, so hopefully this will be one tackled in the future.

Honestly SAB feels like a chore at this point just because world 3 and 4 are never going to come. After you’ve done something 50 times its not fun anymore. The puzzles and bosses that were once funny are just annoying. Things that were meant to feel challenging feel time consuming.

I don’t understand the point of releasing the crimson skins in the current form. We already had the kaiser skin colour for daily’s and now crimson skins are competing for the same spot.

New skins are added for casual playstyle but nothing new added for tribulation is sad imo. Would have loved to see a new moto infusion (purple/yellow) but nope. Sitting on 10+ tribulation tokens of all zones and will be more after going for daily chests but they are utterly useless. Let us trade that stuff in for crimson tokens or something or add something else we can use that stuff for.

How do you compare that? How many are playing SAB? How many are playing Basket Brawl? How many developer hours does it take to release and maintain a new SAB world? How many to fix a few bugs for an activity?

People have longed asked for new activities and those who played BETA 1 of Basket Brawl said it could be a lot of fun, if ANet addressed the bugs.

I think to get the full picture you need to look up what guild wars 2 was making in revenues back in 2013 vs 2016 or 2017. They aren’t even maintaining dungeons because they don’t have the resources so they clearly are not going to have the resources to expand on a seasonal gimmick when they can’t maintain a core part of the game that is here all year round.

Even though I really enjoy SAB and Guild Wars 2 in general… If SAB is that much more attractive to people than the core game, then IMO there is a problem somewhere. And that problem can not be fixed by prioritizing SAB. GW2 needs more work, we need more balancing, we need more fixing, we need more content. Perhaps after all that, you guys will also have a different reason to keep on coming back to the game and the problem will have fixed itself.

It’s what Anet is known for and it’s a blanket statement for the developer not the individual so you could replace peter with brad and it will be the same thing. Reputation is also current to the MMO map games like WoW, FF14, BD, BNS, and so forth all have negative things they are known for and will be remembered. You, me, and many people have been burned this merely the reputation that Anet has fostered for itself over four years.

Also W3 would be nice but looking at the world map W3 has lots of water including underwater segments from that flooded portion on the world map and we all know Anets current stance on water. I hope it gets done but if it doesn’t then that would be cruel the HuB has houses that show new players that W3 and W4 exist. The world map shows the areas the story will be forever incomplete in regards to saving the princess and that door and odd thing behind will forever be locked without the glove power up not to mention the missing heart piece. Everything about SAB screams to new players that the story continues and leaving it in this state isn’t good.

I’m not against new worlds and I certainly think ANet should maintain the current SAB indefinitely. However, I can’t agree that adding W3 and beyond would be a good use of ANet’s limited resources.

If you’d been to rata sum and seen the people crowding around the npc around the clock you’d know that despite the mass amounts of people who hate jumping puzzles sab is really popular. I despise jumping puzzles but I do sab every day and even tho it makes me want to rage i feel it teaches me perserverance, patience, and makes me a better jumper….and in some cases it does (although with gliders added in the game but not in sab sab can only improve my jumping where gliders are enabled by so much, i wish there was a disable glider button or that we could change the keybind). And there are also tons of people who do sab regardless of whether they hate jp or not because of the great loot. I mean the skins are awesome.

If you’d been to rata sum and seen the people crowding around the npc around the clock you’d know that despite the mass amounts of people who hate jumping puzzles sab is really popular.

If you’d remember that Rata Sum is just one map, you’d know that you don’t see more than 100 people at a time. By itself, the crowds near moto (or in the SAB lobby) aren’t a valid measure of participation.

SAB inspires strong passions among its fans to be sure, but that’s not enough to make the business decision to prioritize its development over other parts of the game.

For example: I know a lot of people joining in now strictly for the achievement points — they are a bit bored with the game generally after X years. They’d be equally happy with any other content with AP accessible to them.

For example, I have one buddy who is deeply passionate about SAB. It’s their favorite thing to play, among all games in all platforms. However, they spend exactly 0 dollars on the game and only play SAB. The rest of the year, they do little more than arrive to say “hi” and “when’s SAB coming back?”

In other words, my anecdotes are equally strong (or equally weak) in suggesting that SAB isn’t that popular.

So again, sure, people are passionate about it. Until someone can provide evidence to the contrary, with, you know, actual numbers, I remain convinced that SAB is niche content that appeals to a small minority and generates amazing passion among a tiny minority.

I think the intense passion along makes it an important component of the game. I think the minority participation means it won’t get much (if any) in the way of major updates.

Basket Brawl needs a lot less effort to be updated. The folks in this thread are asking for an entirely new world and would (reasonably) expect it to be as interesting as W1, if not W2, to include three levels of difficulty. I am sure you can see that changing SAB is much more involved.

Super Adventure Box is the only time I can get some old friends to return to the game, and they normally hate jumping puzzles.

I really think they should reconsider and try to find a way to justify resources for it. The first step I’d take, is to make it more than annual. Maybe not all year, but have it run multiple times a year. This way it wouldn’t be resources used on something that’s barely ever actually playable.

Otherwise, I think it’s a great use of resources. The thing is, while it may not be main content, it’s fun content. You need to be able to justify some side, fun content, in order to keep the playerbase happy and relaxed enough to want to spend money on other things. They can’t spend money if they’re bored and spending their time elsewhere.

It seems odd since it’s so different than the rest of the game, but it really hit something special. Also, it makes enough sense in-universe as an Asura thing that I don’t think it’s any more out of place than some of the more odd store items.
