Refer a Friend Official discussion
Yes, glad this is finally here. My first questions are whether they will increase server capacity so players can play with the friends they refer on their server and if characters created via RAF will be retained for a period so that trial users that purchase the game can continue with their character.
I am hoping they answer these Qs before the Lost Shores weekend.
I agree this is an awesome idea! I actually have several of my friends who wanted to try the game before they bought it, so this will be their chance to try it. I’m so glad that they made this available.
Yes! I am super excited. I have been bugging a couple of my buddies to try the game for awhile now, and they keep saying – maybe next week or the like. They cannot turn down free-ness!!
Well, if you say it’s official, then by all means…
Nice.
Now for the greedy and entitled part…
Can you make it 4?
Refer a Friend’s success depends on server cap increases. Referring a friend, to then have them play on a different server than yours is pointless.
Unless they finally implement guesting – which I’m almost positive they won’t.
This is awesome, thanks Anet!
I have been hoping to show a friend GW2 for some time but he is unsure whether his system can run it, so this is the perfect opportunity.
I just have a similar concern as a poster above. I play on Tarnished Coast, which is often difficult to get into, will server capacity be increased so we can actually play together?
i already got one friend interested, and i’m pretty sure there’s at least one more that would like to try it out.
This is great, now I can invite a few friends that I know are unsure about picking it up.

I’m the law :P
seriously, the real “Official” post doesn’t allow posting comments.. so.. Yeah! why making a lot of threads of the same things?
This is awesome. Ive already got 3 ppl imma give my keys to. They’ve wanted to try the game out before buying it, so hopefully they’ll like GW2 and buy it after this. Thank you arenanet!!

I already have a PAID friend/guildmate playing who cant play with me or our guild cause my server is always FULL and she can’t transfer. What would be the point of asking more friends to play for free, if I still can’t play with the ones I had already invited and who paid for the game? So we can visit in chat? I have a cell phone for that.
Surely it would be a better idea to get things like guesting in and have dealt with bots and gold seller spamming before introducing trial accounts and referrals.
Added more question from reddit…
I already know who I can recruit.
Have a couple who’re skeptical, but considering it. They’re younger people for whom $60 is not a throw-away amount.
Guesting is really important, cuz doing a trial and facing empty zones alone wouldn’t help recruiting.
Great thing to add it to the game. Bad timing due to server restrictions and one time event in my opinion. Horrible timing without server adjustments.

Actually, the one time event may be the very reason they are doing this. Potentially leave a even better impression on potential new players.
I understand that, but at what cost to paid players?

The last one time event pretty much led to the login servers breaking in a way we hadn’t seen since around release, all in the name of a cutscene.
Increasing the number of players could easily make things worse and leave a bad impression on potential new players.

A lot of new players playing the game?
