Refugee Possessions
I was able to find the mug and doll without much effort on March 1st. They are sparkles on the ground like any of the ambient weaponry you can pick up throughout the game. The Doll is in Diessa and the mug is in Wayfarer’s. There are plenty of resources on the internet showing possible spawn locations. The location changes each day but is in only one spot for that day.
EPIC BREAKTHROUGH:
Went to Lion’s Arch and after getting zilch from the heralds again, I talked to refugees there and found out I was looking for a beer goblet in – you guessed it – Wayfarer Foothills. He says nothing about where he’d been, not narrowing it down or anything. Guess I’ll continue to randomly walk across the entire zone looking for this thing.

Trying to find them by searching the whole area is going to take forever. The easiest way is to just ask in map chat. Someone is bound to know where they are and reply back.
All you need to know is that they spawn in the general area around invasion dynamic events. Those are easy to find, so just look around the area for sparkles.
I found the one in diessa no problem by just checking for sparkles around a portal event I just cleared, and the same for the mug not too long earlier. They’re not directly ON the event, you have to look around a little. If I was just clearing the event and not looking for either of them I would definitely have missed them.
What I liked about the one in diessa was that there were a lot of random planks in the woods with sparkles trolling me. Then there was the object in those same woods which was a nice surprise.
Thankfully I got them both the day of the patch when a Commander was standing on them, I’m really glad I don’t have to search for them now.

http://dulfy.net/2013/02/26/gw2-lost-and-found-living-story-event-and-achievement-guide/ I refer to dulfy alot. It has more then just the locations of the goblet & toy soilder ur looking for. Definatly worth bookmarking.

I do believe his problem is that there isn’t enough information in game to lead to the objects, but we would all like to thank you for your valuable and not at all negative input.
It’s [NERF] or nothing!

This is helpful – thanks! I’ve been to a few of these events and I did look around, but didn’t find anything. I’ll keep at it. I wish the game would imply this somehow – from game information only it could be anywhere in the zone.

Right on. I don’t want to have to leave the game to “cheat” by looking at other sites. I want to search and discover on my own, but looking over an entire zone for a small item is a bit much. I used to do this in WoW and it all but ruined the game for me. I got so used to using wowhead and wowwiki that I’d just automatically go there for info instead of trying it on my own. In GW2, I always try and use only in-game resources if I can help it. In this case, it seems like it’s either “cheat” using other resources and other people’s work, or spend forever walking the zone.
Gaming has changed, I guess this is the result. Gone are the days of the Stein of Moggok and The Ghoulbane.

The Ghoulbane. A quest added when enough people complained about how to get that sword and EQ devs went “you know, we can do better”. And you still had to half stumble upon it and not quite know where to begin looking.
I do not miss EverQuest quests that much for that reason. More often you weren’t given much to go on about where to find things, you were expected to intuit them out of some mystical hivemind. Even worse, at least once I recall being directed to the completely wrong place, but I can’t remember which quest that was for.
The quests got better, around Velious but they were often so complex on mechanisms that they broke fairly often.
As for the possessions, the best advice I gave someone without being spolieriffic is to say “they dropped them on the path to the city, so search in a spot along where Refugee Sign Posts are”. It almost works in Diessa Plateau, but not as well.

Yep quests have come a long way. I don’t miss the EQ quests either but this is a bit silly

I don’t see how there isn’t… Talk to the coordinator, he says “these objects may be covered in dirt or snow now blah blah blah”
Talk to refugee “i lost my goblet in wayfarer foothills”
Talk to other refugee “i lost my soldier in diessa”
Go to area and lo and behold “snow covered object” appears not far from the refugee path…. go to diessa and amazingly “dirt covered object” is also not far from the path….
I found them both with about 5 min of looking for each one. And I didn’t talk to anyone else in-game about it… and I didn’t look it up on the internet either.
Plenty of information if you actually take the time to talk to the npcs, read what they say… and put on your critical thinking caps.

You think this is silly and too much? Hehe.
Remember when console RPGs didn’t require you to have a strategy guide open in the chair next to you to be sure you absolutely positively didn’t miss anything one-time-only?
Remember when you played certain types of RPGs on the PC and had to make your own maps on graph paper or be utterly screwed? As in “where the funk-n-wagnalls am I?” screwed.
Remember when the drop chance was a 1/255 chance and there was no way of increasing it, but that drop was so heads-and-shoulders above anything else you had to have it?
Remember when games allowed stuff like party-wide instakills and it wasn’t considered too much so long as it wasn’t done all the time? You just had to spend the whole combat praying and trying to remember when you last saved . . .
Good times . . .

You probably already know this, but just in case…
Hold down the alt-key while you’re searching and you’ll be able to see green lettering that you can’t normally see unless the item is targeted. That helps me in finding items.

Except that Diessa can sometimes spawn that toy soldier way in the woods away from the road.
I do agree, it takes some thought to figure out where to start looking, and maybe . . . please don’t hate me for saying this folks . . . people have gotten a little TOO used to universal spoilers and map-markers for quests :P
This is why I play (and enjoy) my collection of Atlus games.

Sorry I meant this is silly that there are complaints about finding these items when compared to what we used to have to go through in the old MMO’s.

The one I found in wayfarer foothills was at least a couple of thousand yards away from the nearest DE and hidden amongst some trees. The one I found in DP was much closer to the DE and lying in plain sight.

Either you got lucky or you’re just trolling, because they can spawn a long long way from the refugee path.

The Diessa one was nowhere near the path when I found it. You got lucky, congratulations.

I did them without help from the internet. It says to talk to the refugees and they tell you what they are missing and where they are from. I also recall there being a character there telling you that they probably walked off the path and the things could be buried. My husband and I walked outside the paths but the general areas and found them together fairly easily. I think they have multiple spawn points.. but not really hard to locate- without the internet help.

I know. I have the same reaction someone says something is “too much grind” . . . and I giggle behind a hand remembering the “heck levels” phenomenon in EQ.

Glad to hear you had such an easy time of it! Fact is, I walked up and down the path probably ten times over 2-3 different days and never saw anything. Even after resorting to the wiki, I checked the places it suggested (well away from the path), and they weren’t even there either…
The ones we found were a bit outside the path. So if you follow the path it is just outside it. They are hard to see though

^ The @net mentality. This game should have been packaged with a browser, since its such a important part of actually playing the game. :-\

Oh yea….the old “heck levels” in EQ. Not to mention “de-leveling”. Those were the days!

LMAO, see someone running to the zone line dragging their corpse! The original EQ was an MMO where ‘risk vs reward’ really meant something.

It meant a weekend lost trying for Golden Efreeti Boots once upon a time, or for Flowing Black Silk Sash. How many Moonstone Rings did I have at one point? I dunno, I think I lost count. And that was not counting times I would become utterly screwed with no cleric or necro around to help me out.
“Risk vs reward” was so totally bonkers in that game, because . . . after a point . . . the “reward” was usually the rare drop. And the common drop was usually not nearly as good as what you should have already. I mean, one mob demonstrates “risk vs reward” became a joke: “GrimFeather”. Tell me the item you got from killing him was worth it, I dare you :P
As I said. There are times I wish I hadn’t been playing older games, because with those experiences in the past? I have to struggle to set them aside evaluating what is going on in this game, sometimes.
Well i spend last 10 days to find last part of refugee possession – logbook and nothing, dunno what to do now when event is about to end, i need only this to get kitten skin token, but i can’t do anything. Please guys any1 can help? or it is lost right now?
I am afraid the refugee possessions part of Flame and Frost is over. But, fear not!, another Living Story arc starts in just two days! =)

This. I tried for several days, visiting every spot in Diessa which was listed on Dulfy and found nothing. After that, I gave up, rather than let myself continue to get trolled. The prospect of spending the entire event looking for the items daily, with a decent chance at failing because the last item or two I’d need was never there just didn’t seem too appealing.
I didn’t even have the worst of it. There would me multiple people each day in map chat complaining that they’d even gone so far as to get guested on other servers to check for artifacts and still find nothing.
