Now this was posted on June 22, and I haven’t heard anything about this since.
Does this mean I have to purchase HoT first and get the refund later? How does it work?

If you read the rest of the section where you pulled that from, you buy HoT, contact Customer Support (the link is available in the link you posted), and they refund you what you’d originally paid for the game, so long as it’s within those dates.

Then you have your game + HoT. It’s not a full refund. It’s just the core game refund since you bought it so close to when they’d announced the info for the next part of the game.

As its said. If you pre-purchase HoT before 31st, the money you spent on core game gets refunded.

Also -
You need to do it today.

Either completely getting rid of GW2 or getting the refund for picking up HoT, 7/31/15 is the last day you can do it.

I thought this was only if you didn’t want to play the game because it was under the part if you no longer wanted to play. They said “We’ll provide further details on when refunds will be processed in the next couple weeks as we set up this process.” and that’s the part that confused me the most as I didn’t see any updates on this.

Yes, I’m doing this today. I posted this because I’m not sure how it works so I wanted to check with you guys.

It’s for both, the next paragraph down is the paragraph stating the info for those that want to completely quit the game. The one you provided is for refunding just the core game after you pick up HoT.

Like the character slots for vet players (mine took 10 days to get a 2nd free slot after purchase of HoT), it might not be an instant refund depending on demand of refunds to be processed.

If you pre-purchased HoT, bought the game between Jan 23 and June 16 and intend to keep the game, you do not have to contact support. The refund is automatic and will probably roll out after July 31st so that they know exactly how many refunds need to be done.
