It looks like the “Regions” achievement category has the potential to expand with every new LS update, if a new map (region) is added with every update. However, what I think would be absolutely phenomenal, is if – eventually – all maps would be aded to this tab. It would make me return to this game for at least another year, on its own. From the emptyness of the tab, it looks a little ANet was already planning something like that, but I would like to know more about their exact plans with this. What do you think?

OP im ok with the fact you enjoy that kind of content, personally for me it shouts nothing more than filler content, its the exact kind of thing we’ve gotten from the beginning of the LW and its just re-package filler content, im talking about for example the find the missing coins achievement, its just filler content linked to achievement points, if there were no AP linked to it I wouldn’t bother, ppl will just refer to a guide anyway to get it out the way, what’s so significant about exploring every nook and cranny anyway, its not like it changes anything, theres only so long one can hold the opinion of thinking every nook and cranny holds an adventure before common sense tells you it doesnt, for me it isn’t obvious why exploring every nook and cranny is fun, what is fun is following a meaningful story which connects the player to the world, which I still think season 2 could deliver.

Sure.. but following a meaningful story also takes a lot of time for developers to do, and i want more than 30 mins of gameplay out of each patch, so “cheap” achievements are the way to go. If they make me revisit regions i havent visited outside of mega bosses since world completion i’m all in favor of this..

I would of course like it even more if there was a more immersive story to follow (maybe season 2 might even be that), but Regions achievements would be easy to implement, giving me something new to do, without the need to create new content. That would be a major improvement.

I love exploring, so I’m looking forward to tracking down all the achievements in Dry Top.

It’d be great to see more zone-based exploration achievements, for all the reasons above. But only if its not at the expense of producing a wide range of content. I’d rather different groups of players all got something they really love over the course of S2 than one group getting exactly what they want.

I guess this is one of those things though where we have to remember that every update can’t necessarily cater to all players.

I’m a bit disappointed about the cut of a meta-achievement goal (like those exclusive skins). Why aren’t the dust-goggles just the reward for completing all zone-achievements?

and why are there only generic rewards for completing the hardcore story achievements?

I’d agree with this. It’s a bit of a lose-lose situation, people will complain either way.

I like the direction that things seem to be headed with introducing Quartz to Dry Top, it marks the opening of previously exclusive content, making sure it has a future for all players.

I think the solution might be a bit of both though. The Adventurer’s Scarf/Goggles could be both achievement rewards and drops within the zone chests/loot. That way they are accessible to everyone, with a choice of how to try and obtain them.

I like the idea of eventually adding to all maps/regions, but the problem of course is that ANet rarely adds new content to existing areas unless it’s part of the living world update, and it seems that we might be exploring new areas instead of revisiting old areas ala Season 1 (of course with only 1 release so far Season 2 could go either way).

I might be extrapolating here, but this could actually be taken from the Horizontal Progression CDI:

Chris Whiteside
Marcus Greythorne.6843

My number one would be “Zone Progression” / “Order Progression”

Something that gives players a purpose to explore the zones.

A lot of people miss quests, my main guess why this is the case is: they miss stories. Dynamic Events are cyclical in nature, so those stories have no real end – climax if you want. Time to give your writers something more to do and let them design unique events.
even the most simple idea could make people exited. Today I leveled in Kessex Hills when I saw a bear walking alongside a skritt. Awesome I thought… until I found out that I can’t interact with that npc at all; it’s just a guild mission boss. Why not spawn such rare characters (dozen of them, but rare spawns) in the open world, give them a loottable and a few interesting dialogue-options or even a small event associated.

Fill the existing maps with tons of things to do. I mean: tons and tons of things. And may these be just little things… the world has to feel more alive.

…and then combine this with progression. The more people find, the more they unlock. And the more they can unlock for others (in the sense of triggering new events).

summary: progression in specific zones via a huge variety of things to do (something for everyone – fighters, explorers, collectors, lore-lovers, treasure hunters,…………

People should have some goals for each of the zones. Not for the world in general (Legendary – mats from everywhere). Zelda reference: the Master Sword is in the Lost Woods, not everywhere in Hyrule.

This idea makes me excited, it could also tie into nearly every Horizontal Progression idea that has been put forward in this CDI.

It is just a good global ongoing goal to have, and one I think we have been doing but dependent on priorities could do a lot more of, especially from the point of view of using/evolving the Map Completion Meta Game system.

Chris

I found this here. I’d love if they continue this and add achievements and other stuff to the older zones, too.

It’s good to see more people think this is good! What I’m really looking forward to is getting achievements for Heart events with special mechanics, and unique challenges you could tae on. I want to see more like the challenges in Ebonhawke, like “Bring down all the propaganda posters in one day”, or reading the founding of ebonhawke. There could be achievements for the guild trek locations, etc, etc.

As a clarification; I want this because it should be easy to implement, in episodes, and lead to a lot of things to do for little effort.

May the Six watch over us. And come back to Tyria soon.

Achievements are account bound. They have always been.

The character binding of the LS is simply due to it basically being a continuation of the personal story, which was also progressed on a character basis rather than account.

I’m quite positive the reason they added it as a “Regional” and not strictly as a Living Story set of achieves is because they intend to use the Regional grouping for future areas.

It remains to be seen whether they’ll only add them to new areas, or whether they’ll go back and add them to old areas as well. My guess at this point would be new areas only, though. Not that it wouldn’t be awesome to see stuff added to old areas as well, but it seems they have very little focus on adding new stuff to old areas.
