Guild Wars 2

I know a few people not willing to touch this game because of the perceived taint of NCSoft on this game as they were old “City of _” players. I heard NCSoft doesn’t publish this anymore.

What I want to ask is how does NCSoft relate to ANet now? How does NCSoft relate to GW2? I’d like to give them the facts.

ArenaNet (and thus Guild Wars 2) is fully owned by NCSoft.

NCSoft does however seem to have very little say in how the game is being developed.

Well … they are now fully owned by NC West Holdings which is fully owned by NCSOFT. NC West Holdings is a holding company NCSOFT created to put all their western businesses in including Carbine Studio, aka WildStar, and NC Interactive which runs Lineage 2 and AION in NA.

Probably done for legal or tax reasons. NC West Holdings is run by the rather formidable wife of NCSOFT’s CEO so it’s not like they were trying to distance themselves.

As for the “doesn’t publish this anymore”, that’s true. ArenaNet is handling the whole HoT on their own but ArenaNet always had a “special” mostly independent relationship with NCSOFT to begin with.

From what I’ve read, they are a silent partner except where the Black Lion trading post is concerned.
