I don’t buy keys…..ever. They just aren’t worth the investment. I’d prefer the cheaper waypoints for a month. I do use those a heck of a lot.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

They are a worthy investment now.

Scraps are a common drop, so even though you fail on opening there is a good chance that you progress towards a token.

Not only that, but the token is redeemable for future skins.

So while right now the skins are not appealing, 5 months from now you may see a real good one.

Just remember guys to #VoteEvon

Voting for Evon results in cheaper BL keys for the next four weeks. So if you buy gems with real $ you get the best bang for your buck. And if you buy gems with gold, you should convert now.

But in 2 weeks time you will need 5 tickets for single weapon. 50 chests? No thanks, even if the key price was reduced by 50% I would still not consider it worth to buy.

Btw, why are you defending these rng chests so much?

Can we stop having the same stupid RNG debate every patch? It’s here to stay. Accept it or don’t. Having the tickets sellable is a huge step in the right direction. Plus it’s in a black lion chest, which dishes out a lot of other things as well.

RNG exists in EVERY MMO EVER MADE.

Well I’m merely talking about stocking up. By all means, buy the skins now if you want to. But for stocking up tokens for future skins, it’s best to #VoteEvon

I’m defending RNG because I’m being reasonable here. Anet needs to make money and playing off people’s tendencies to buy even with RNG in place isnt a bad thing to take advantage of. Asking Anet to directly sell skins cuts into the money they make. Less money means fewer funds for GW2 (and other games, of course).

People here are happy about the 2-week releases but guess who funds that? The gem store. There is a reason why GW2 is churning out way more quality content frequently than any other MMO in mind.

In real life I’m not like all these “corporationz are bad, rich ppl are evilz” hipsters that permeate so frequently now. So I can’t really relate with the people who scream “greed” and get angry that Anet is trying to make money.

I think it is a very positive step for them to increase the various avenues of getting skins.

It also shows me that they have indeed been listening because I have seen all these things suggested by many players.

The election sounds fun and I can’t wait to play Hunger Royalle again just a pity it is for team Evon – i hope I can have it both ways!

No it’s not. If you didn’t experience RNG in cash shops, you experienced it in dungeons or raids, hoping for that one item for you to drop.

Other MMO’s have shops and the one big one is adding one now too.

I’m defending RNG because I’m being reasonable here. Anet needs to make money…

Hey, I’m totally reasonable too. I have paid for the game. However, I don’t feel like I’m obligated to crowdfund ANet, which is a financially secure major corporation and not some 5-man software company who desperately needs every penny to survive (whereas the “they need money to make more content for you, you ungrateful wretch!” – analogy might’ve sufficed).

This whole discussion is ironic in the sense that I have said I would GLADLY spend money in the gemstore if they would sell the item I want to buy, not the CHANCE to get it. Do you see what my point is here? This is the mechanic I’m opposed to.

You make it sound like game companies have consistent sales like any other corporation you have in mind. The gaming industry is not like your typical sales & services industry. Gaming companies live and die on their releases. That’s where they get most of their money (and gross margin). The further away you are from release, the less money you make on your boxed product.

It doesn’t help Anet/NCsoft either when you consider that many of the games they sell are B2P with no subscription fees. So that constant revenue stream is not there. They need to constantly produce content (like the gem store) in order to maintain a constant revenue stream.

We have already seen in a previous interview within the past 2 weeks from Mike Z, who (AFAIK) said that the box sales + gem store is more than enough to fund the company (which is the reason why we won’t have to pay for boxed expansions). So the current model right now is working. And of course players are unhappy. This is the gaming industry we’re talking. Players are never satisfied.

And yes, I understand that you would probably spend with a guaranteed chance rather than an RNG chance. The sad truth though is that they make more money off the group willing to gamble versus the the group of people who would pay for a guaranteed chance.

how about some gameplay addition, beside the living story……

You do know living story is pretty much another name for “content update” or “gameplay addition” right?

Truth be said, this time many of the update notes for the Living Story are just “thing X is still there…”, not really new things being introduced. It looks like we get basically 3 mini games and one story instance.

Sure, completely ignore the entirely new zone and other trinkets we got in the previous update…

The real quote is as follows:

I pressed him to tell me whether there would be a Guild Wars 2 expansion this year and he shook his head to indicate no. What about next year, I asked?

“If we do this right,” he answered, “we will probably never do an expansion and everything will be going into this Living World strategy.”

For those that cry RNG I agree it is still RNG but the odds are in your favor.

The Black Lion Chest now has a common chance to drop Black Lion Ticket Scraps and a rare chance to drop Black Lion Claim Tickets, which can be redeemed for Aetherblade weapon skins.

I believe the significant change to the previous months’ (going back to Wintersday and Mad King I think) models is going to be the availability to obtain the skins via the TP. Don’t want to risk buying the keys to open chests? Don’t. Sooner or later (and my guess is sooner, since the first people to obtain the skins who are just looking to turn a profit will be dumping them on the TP for 500% of what they’ll sell for a week from now) some/most/all even, perhaps, of the skins will be available on the TP. The price may be more than some are willing to spend right away, but the point is they aren’t locked behind RNG boxes, frustrating the hell out of tons of people whose luck just straight-up sucks … like my own.

Ugh, I like Kiel so much more and she’s trustworthy, but Evon’s promised events are so much better.

In the real world, it would be an obvious choice for Kiel since once in office there is no guarantee either would keep their promises and Kiel would be the more likely to. But since this is directly related to a development decision that will happen no matter what, that doesn’t apply.

And at the same time, I feel bad about being tempted by bribes, even fictional ones.

I’d actually say that’s an improvement (depending on how common the chance is for the scraps) in terms of locking it behind RNG. I’d personally still prefer to buy the weapons, but I’m not too bothered, since we have the chance to get them during the Candidate Trials.

Also, dat Healing Surge buff.

I think a lot of players would prefer everything being free, resulting in Anet making no money. But I bet you there would still be complaining!

This is just not true. Anet is a great company and they have made a fantastic game, but I think the majority of the playerbase has made clear that while they want to support the game through the gemstore, they don’t want to gamble.

The gold standard was the flame and frost weapons, no rng garbage, just great skins available for purchase directly. If this had been the case for fused/jade weapons, I would have bought £30 worth of gems probably, but instead they got nothing from me.

This. I would prefer items and skins available directly for purchase and will not spend a dine on RNG. I would have bought Jade weapon skins directly from the gem store.

Guardian slow? Wut?

Staff + retreat + save yourself = Usain Bolt.

So what? There’s more to mobility than swiftness, and most classes can achieve a similar result with a simple +25% movement speed signet

And I’m not taking a skill that’s useful only for swiftness when I could have something like AoE protection or stability, just like most Necromancers aren’t considering taking Spectral Walk (30s swiftness) over other utilities

Edit:
darnit I should really stop going offtopic everywhere I post

Yeah actually I prefer killing bosses with a 15% chance to drop an item I want to running around in the world killing everything I come across hoping the .001% chance to drop a kite fortune drops.

God knows how bad the drop rate on the “rare” back skins will be.

RNG in GW2 is much, MUCH worse than any MMO I have ever played save perhaps Ragnarok Online, but RO devs never made any promises that you’d have no grinding. In fact, it was kind of the appeal. Anyway I digress. Thank you for your support of Grind Wars 2!

But here is the thing, even if the BL keys do drop in gem price most people will start buying gems with gold skyrocketing the cost of gems as a whole, which would (even with discounted keys) become too costly still for some.

On the other hand reduced WP costs (stacking with guild reduction?) would benefit everyone daily, if someone has played regularly since launch I’d wager they have spent 100-200g at least on WP costs its crazy how well of a gold sink they are and those 1-4 silver fees do really add up in a long run.

Basically imo Evon will make some people happy, and Ellen will make everyone content.
