Release time Halloween ?
People are still challenged by timezones?
Just find one of the many websites where you can convert a timezone to yours, bookmark it for convenience and never be confused again! Eventually you will not even have to use it because you will learn the differences from experience of using it so many times.
I guess I really don’t understand why everything has to be staggered? It starts before halloween and ends after. If everything is turned on across the board at exactly the same time, Yes, It’ll start ‘technically’ on different days/times but it gets turned off at the same time too. Everyone would get equal time with the event. Is it a “who gets to be first?” contest or something? Because, it makes no differenct to me if it happens in EU time zones 7 hours before it happens here in my time zone. shrug
Everyone as in european players? So that would have launched at noon for me, while I’m at work. Gee, “I’m getting screwed”.
But still you get to participate on the 22nd as advertised like we was told it would start. Most players in EU won’t even participate until they get back from work which will be around 18 hrs after the event starts.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
And is it just me or did anyone else not get emails?
Check your spam folder, that’s where mine were. Odd as I’ve never had ANet emails go there before.
I’m not challenged by time-zones, as you can set in-game clock to server time.
The part that’s frustrating here is we get ANet employee coming in and saying “past” midnight… so does that mean 12:01 AM or 1 AM or 2 AM or ? all of those are “past.”
AT what time will it go live?
Deliberately vague? Or just really crummy language skills?

I don’t have a spam folder and didnt get one either. Don’t know why. Odd.

Arenanet is always very vague. Annoying to the player base since its all guessing, but keeps them from getting complaints if things dont get done at their ‘advertised’ time.

@ Mirodir I spend a lot of time on the internet. But you are correct in that I don’t have US friends to play with, since I play on EU servers only.
To clarify my original post, I didn’t mean a US/EU split that would prevent guesting on US servers. Only the forum / event times / patch times should be split and localised to prevent inconvenience and confusion for most people.
People guesting on US servers and doing the events at their start times with American friends has no effect on anyone else, so I certainly don’t see any reason to prevent it
“The email blast that went out earlier is quite correct. Due to differences with timezones the event starts past midnight (this evening) for European players, the event starts worldwide at the same time. Obviously this means that it will run until the 2nd of November (again due to timezone differences).”
So it is the same time the daily achievements reset(and monthlies)? Past midnight to the next day in Europe and evening in US. Yeah. Should be same time then.
But then it should be mentioned if you announce such an event. I did not see anything about time. Only mentioned which day and the timezone and I thought it would start at the very beginning of 22th in US… which would be early morning Europe then with a few hours later time zone here.
right im confused
If Anet are releasing it at 5pm PST 22nd october then that is 1am GMT 23rd october right?
Was looking forward to the haloween event on my day off today, shame im working tomrrow and wont be able to play. If anything i expected halowwen to start at 12pm american time and +/- 8pm europe time…
right im confused

1am BST (British Summer Time) 23rd October. We’re in daylight savings time for a few more days yet, which is GMT+1.
So if you’re in the UK, it’s just 1am tonight.
i’m sorry, i hate to sound whiny, but this was rather poorly communicated. there should be a timer, or at least an easy to find post with an exact release time for it. or Mr. Hrouda shoulda given us an ETA when he frickin posted in this frickin thread. i’m sorry but that’s just infuriatingly rude.
i get it, having EVERYONE log in right at the launch is going to be a pain. but this is borderline misdirection.
Hmm didnt understanded im UTC +1 so when the patch will arrive here?
They haven’t given a specific time that i’ve seen yet, but it was obviously planned out. EU emails saw a 23rd-2nd date. The event for Act1 runs an “extra” day, which led me to conclude the event would start late in the day (5-6ish) PDT on the 22nd, giving EU players the full playtime equal to NA players. I’m not defending them, it’s just obviously planned out.
the only email i got was for guild wars 1
right im confused

“past” 5 pm PDT, not PST (we’ll be in daylight savings time for the duration of the event)
the “past” part means ??? But sometime past midnight GMT 23/10.
Great Europeans are left to dark once again. Good Job
If the same content was avaliable though the whole length of the time given I wouldn’t mind, don’t care about getting to do it first if I can still do it later. But this was posted by an Anet employee in another topic:
And finally, make sure to be around on Sunday October 28th mid-day pacific time, you’re NOT going to want to miss it!
This implies that if you aren’t there for the start of an event you’ll miss out and it’s not simply a case of getting to do it later.

Yeah, these are the things we need to know about, in advance and in a localised time / date format. And it needs to be on the launcher.

Best bet is for an event like the BWE “Hunger Games”
When they did that, it was impossible to be in game and not know that it was coming.
And yeah, an event like that is a one-off experience.
@AidenTaylor
I can’t actually quote your post because the forum software is broken.
Can you please make sure that ArenaNet post actual times in the future, so us European players will know that we’ll get it a day later.
As it is I and several of my guild have arranged to meet up and play through this content tonight, juggling our personal lives to make that arrangement and we find out (indirectly, in a forum post as the actual webpage still does not have any time information on it) that the content will be launched on the 23rd for us.
Yes, I am quite irritated at the lack of information and the round about/haphazard communication from ArenaNet, why the hell it wasn’t released at noon (like when the BWEs used to start) I don’t know.
Anyway, please learn from this and start to communicate this kind of information in a timely manner in the future.
these guys get to play it before us? http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/10/22/guild-wars-2-halloween-update-video-chris-and-tom-try-on-costumes-throw-things-at-kids/
:(
@Pifil
Its not Anet’s fault you made plans on information that clearly did not indicate a start time. I dont understand the surprise people have that this is occurring when it is. Since release their typical patch goes out Monday at 5pm PST… just like tonights patch which kicks off Halloween in GW2.
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
Patch times are exactly the same as they have always been, as in midnight Monday/Tuesday and the email even said 23rd for europeans.
Why are so many people confused? This is clear as day.
@Parisalchuk.9230
No, it didn’t give a start time, but it did give a start date. Over half their servers are in Europe so if they say something will start on the 22nd it’s not unreasonable to expect it to actually start on the 22nd in Europe, is it?
All I’m asking is that they communicate the fact that the events will start a day later in Europe CLEARLY in the future. (I’m assuming there won’t be a missable launch event that runs on empty European servers.)
If its the 23rd…..why does my launcher advertise it as the 22nd?

What email? I’ve received no email yet. Nothing in my spam folders. Maybe that has something to do with the confusion? The fact that their communication is spotty and not everyone has received the mails.
Oh and I don’t think it’s correct to say that patch times have always been midnight: I’ve updated some times in the morning and some times in the evening since the game launched (and by that I mean I’ve logged in in the morning and nothing updated and it patched when I logged in in the evening).
Besides, this is the first content patch we’ve had, there’s a difference between this and a bug fix patch.

I received no email either. Guess I’ll play some Borerlands 2 while waiting for an event I’ll probably be to low-level to even participate in LOL
No email here either, my understanding was that it would be live on the 22nd, clearly not..
Anet, show some smidgeon of respect for players in eu and other places not in the states and start event on different times according to time zones. I bought this game believing that anet would be a good publisher/company. I really enjoy the game but things like this were event starts and maybe even endings are hard to access due to unreasonable start times, well, makes me feel like a second hand costumer, really sucks:/
I agree that those 7/8am beta-end events on Monday mornings were horrible for Europeans though.
The stress tests on the other hand were all during EU prime time so the majority of the NA playerbase couldn’t participate in them, and the starting time of all BWE’s was during the prime time of EU players on friday evening. So both had their (dis)advantages, if balancing them then EU had the most advantages compared to US.
Not complaining here, because I’m in EU and just don’t understand why several fellow euros are complaining about getting disadvantaged as Anet is the first company that doesn’t make me feel like a second rate customer like in many other games where everything is US time based, GM run events are during US prime time and there’s only giveaways for wich US players are eligible etc. (not talking about WoW because I already strongly disliked it in vanilla times and it was the live game I quit the fastest in my gaming history).

Even though that looks great on paper, they probably have a reason to pick that time, they might need to work on something related to it until that time or whatever. So assuming for a second that they’re technically unable to launch it earlier, and you want the event in EU to start during EU prime time only, this would mean that for EU it couldn’t launch until tomorrow evening. Imagine the outcry if it starts say 20 hours later than in NA I’ve seen that with every patch/xpack launch in games that did that (eg when codies was hosting lotro in EU).

Maybe they’re planning on posting the email to European players on the 23rd as well.
I’m new to GW2 and unaware of Arenanet’s practices. Is this how they always handles patches/updates? I don’t understand. Why can’t they tell us when the update is going up?
Can they at least give us a time frame? Tired of being left in the dark.
Be patient and just play and enjoy when it’s there.
Gw1 was great at telling us when things started, gave us a time and date.
18:31 europe here and still no patch?
What time is this in EST please?
for me the issue is in europe we have been told it will start on the 22nd ….. arenanet could have stated on the eu client , forums, facebook etc that it was 22/23 oct depending on timezone they didnt until today…….thats whats annoying.
dont really care when it goes live would just like to have had the correct information to begin with.

Why are so many people confused? This is clear as day.
One of the reason for so many confused players is that a date is stated which then turns out not to be true, and several people has not received any e-mail about it.
I know like others that we had a guild event setup for it today as well
I can understand the idea of simultaneous global launches (otherwise everyone would just move servers to the first regions to get it, and then move back at the most profitable time to gain an extra day, along with all the people from the original first regions).
But 5pm PST launches mean PST get to play all evening, EST get later evening, and the rest of the world gets nothing pretty much… I know the old, ’It’s a ‘merkin game y’all, YEEHAW!!!’ redneck mantra, but still… If it was, say, 8am PST they get it all day, then EST get it at lunchtime, all of Europe gets a decent amount of evening play, lessening the further east you go. It’s not until you get to the far east and Australisia that people start missing out – a much smaller percentage of the whole gaming base.
They’ve said it’s not going to be out before midnight GMT… That’s 5 PDT, which is 8 EDT -1 if your not daylight savings.
Okay FB says later this afternoon ,but a dev post says 12 am US time so wth stop this back and forth thing. So really the update is going live on the 23rd not the 22. False advertisement you guys keep doing.
whatever it is the event they had is always midnight over here LoL Asia over here like 12am in midnight and the worse part is… is monday! got work to do mannn
best solution for these kind of event is to put it at sat or friday so all of us can stay up late all day for the event not put it on sunday on the US time is monday over here >.>
Midnight GMT is 5 hours ahead of EST. It is going live on 10/22 in the US, 10/23 in Europe due to time zone differences.
Charr Ranger of the Iron Legion
@Janhyua, its a week long event….. Just because you cant be on in the first hour of it starting doesnt mean you miss out on anything.
(By the way I live in the US and this starts at 8pm which is near the end of prime time for many anyway)
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
Also, apparently you don’t have an understanding as to what false advertising is. False advertising is when a company claims a product can do something that it can’t. If A-Net said Guild Wars 2 will make you more intelligent that would be false advertising.

Yeah. Living in Europe, I got to wait another day. I do no like that, I don’t like it at all.
But there are people in the world with problems a liiiiiiiiiiittle bit bigger than having to wait till 1 AM for something that was promised the day before.
I’ll survive the one extra day that I’ll have to wait.
How about you?
