Did I miss an Anet statement somewhere? Last I checked the Devs had stated that the gem store would only offer new outfits – as armor pieces were being reserved for in game rewards.

Seeing as the chaos gloves are armor pieces (and currently being sold in the gem store), I’m assuming Anet made some elaborate, frivolous yet sweeping statement on why they’ve decided to backtrack on this commitment -.-

Any links people?

Is it really that awful of a broken promise? Judging by the amount of “I hate outfits” threads, it’s probably a delight to most players, or at least, most forum users.

Myself personally, I don’t mind either outfits or armour pieces going on The Gem Store. If I like the look of them on a character, I’ll put my hand in my pocket and buy them. If I don’t like them, then I won’t buy them. Not like anyone’s being arm-twisted by this. /shrug.

Its not that awful a broken promise. Its just another promise stacked upon the heap of dead and rotting promises. A 500 gem item is practically a 105 gold item (which I guess isn’t so bad), I’m just lamenting the absence of 105 gold items over the last six months – due to a promise which flooded the gem store with costumes and gameplay with empty dreams -.-

I don’t remember ANET making that particular statement. If you have a source for it, I’d be interested to see it. I know that it did come up a lot in the horizontal progression discussion and, after outfits were introduced in the April, 2014 patch, I believe they shifted to outfits in the gemstore without ever explicitly stating that was what they were doing. I know that I, and a lot of others, came to the conclusion that the discussion had an impact on this decision, but the problem was that the rate at which new armor was introduced into the game became glacial.

EDIT: Apparently I am mistaken. They did say that armor sets would be released in-game. With that being said, if this brings more armor pieces into the game instead of outfits, I am all for it. I would like a more reasonable production ratio of new armors to outfits than we presently have.

Even though it technically is an armor skin, I would consider it more of a novelty item. What Anet probably meant is that they will no longer do this with actual armor sets.

This is very much a case of pick your battles.

Yeah, either this, or they actually said “We’ll be moving away from armour in favour of Outfits” when the new outfit system came into place.

Even so, with those gloves, it’s a pleasant broken promise I think. I wasn’t sure I’d like them at first, but after seeing they can bye dyed… well!

Grenth hood, bunny ears, the various glasses, bunch of other stuff. You know? A bunch of stuff that was rotated out and said to come back eventually? Just because they brought kitten back that PEOPLE HAVE DEMANDED BE BROUGHT BACK does not mean they’ve gone and backtracked on all future (big clue ignorant people dont care about) skins being outfits. All this kitten is RETURNING stuff.

TBH this thread is frivolous and should be closed. It’s not going to lead anywhere constructive anyways.

Eh, I’m okay with this. I generally read the policy shift as focusing on full suits of armor versus outfits, not individual pieces. If they made an entire Chaos Armor set then I might be irritated (AND BLIND,) but when it’s just one piece, I think the situation is a little different.

They said armor sets not individual pieces of armor, so no promise was broken

Hidden Arcana
For example, armor sets are now exclusively designed as in-game rewards while outfits are primarily Gem Store offerings.

Truthfully I’d just as soon they put them back in the gemstore. The ingame armor sets come out at a too slow a rate for my taste.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

I read it as Redenaz did as well, full armor sets like aetherblade were not to be done anymore. As far as single armor pieces that likely wont ever have a complete “armor set” based on them were outside of that.

Ah, armor sets. Not armor pieces. So according to grammar, boots and shoulders were never discontinued from the gem store – just oddly absent for 6 months.

Fair enough, though while we in the spirit of things, it would be nice to see a singular chest piece released once in a while -.-

Anet puts them in the gem store people complain, If Anet put them as reward for doing x event people would complain. If anet heaven forbid made acquiring them take longer than 2 days people would complain. Anet is and will forever be in a no win situation with some people.

Every time the company says something, anything at all, it becomes a “promise”. A promise isn’t a statement. Every time someone says that Anet broke a promise (and in this case they didn’t), they get less and less incentive to tell us anything.

Because this fan base takes statements as promises. Things change all the time. That’s the nature of MMOs.

How come when they told us they couldn’t bring gliding to core Tyria and they did, no one called them on breaking a promise?

The problem is, even in this case where the information is wrong, it still sits on the first page with a title that accuses.

They said now NEW armors in the gem store. Chaos gloves and other skins like that are returning armor pieces.

So, now that you have your requested link, might you consider changing the title of your thread?

Since the promise the title wants us to remember never existed…

Why say it at all then.. and these “changes” seem to be a running trend lately, its very poor no matter which way you look at it.

Oh for pity’s sake! It’s not a PROMISE, its a policy. One that’s changing, thank the Six.

Seriously, not every word you ever hear in your life is a “promise”. And if you can’t distinguish promises from every other form of communication I pity the people around you.

Honestly if a company says something they should stick to it, and not say something then change on a whim, it makes the company look poor…

Honestly it makes them look like one side doesn’t know what the other side is doing..

I thought they said armor sets, not armor pieces. Could be wrong though.

So if they added six armor pieces all separately.. thats ok?

Get over it. Plans change CONSTANTLY. Reacting to experience and feedback is this little thing called “growth”, it’s even occasionally called “learning”. If things are changing its because one side DOES know what the other is doing and recognized that it’s not working. Certainly plenty of people on this side of the fence knew that.

They thought they’d try it out. The level of commitment to that plan wasn’t exactly binding. They didn’t set a timeframe… guess what, that doesn’t mean forever. Maybe they’re just testing the waters to see if there’s still a market for cash store skins (hint: Oh yes there is) and not just the bi-weekly cavalcade of outfits.

Really? You’re going to got there?

We are talking about an item that has always, in the history of the franchise, for as long as it has existed, been a cosmetic option. No stats assigned to it. It is not an armor piece, it is a skin that can be applied to an armor piece.
