I have no problem with it being “Hard to get” I do have a problem with the gear crafting process being Time-gated though, I recently came back to playing Guild Wars 2 to get ready for the expansion, and none of my characters have Ascended gear, and it taking around a month to craft the gear, is ludicrous, I don’t want to wait a month to do high-level fractals, ect. with my friends, and guildmates. I believe they should remove the Time-gated nature of the gear, and instead, make it slightly more costly to make, if the Dev’s are worried about everyone getting the best gear in the game too easy, just up the cost, and increase the amount of materials required, that will slow down most people, because gathering materials and the gold/karma/laurels to get it, will be enough of a barrier for people to overcome, I myself am not going to even try to agonize over spending a month for a single set…

Not to mention the people who have lives outside of gaming, people who only play for a few hours or a few days a week, aren’t going to be able to, or wanting to, spend most of their time behind a crafting station, or feeling pressured to get on daily to craft the once a day materials… For someone who plays everyday it would takes 25 to 27 days to craft a single set of gear, and say people who have one of each class, or different builds, it would take around a year to craft it all…

You can make Legendary weapons in less time, and for gear that is slightly better than Exotics and offers slots for agony resist, I don’t feel it’s worth making it take so long to make, but it’s necessary if you don’t want to be gated off of a part of the game, and heaven forbid they introduce Agony outside of fractals, they will force people to craft it.

SORRY FOR THE RANT…

Only truly timegated armor is Celestial (for WUP WUP) armor/ weapons.
As the charged crystals are timegated. All other timegates can be bypassed.

As for ALL OTHER Ascneded ALL stuff you need (except Laurels for certain recipe’s) can be bought through the TP if you need it. You can use the materials to fund most of your purchases. Whne you unlocked a full set of armor and wepons you’d might consider changing stats on your Ascneded instead of rebuying all recipe’s. Check out asceded stat change possiblities on Wiki and in patch notes.

This leaves you only with SINISTER (for VERATA) and NOMADS (for VENTARI) being behind crests and geodes respectively. IF you’d want to make ZEALOTS (for KEEPERS) You could do so now by bypassing the recipe’s saving you a couple of thousand gold, as the normal exotic inscriptions and insignia’s are way cheaper.

If they up the cost/mat requirements it will be harder for alot of people to get as farming extra gold/mats takes alot more time, and those people have a real life to. if getting rid of time gate means making asc even more of a gold sink, it will still be timeconsuming to get, just as much as time gated stuff is because of the extreme requirements of farming/money you would need.

Ignore crafting, acquire armor boxes. No more timegate.

Or you could buy two ascended rings, giving you 10 AR after you have made enough runs for 150 units of fractal currency, giving you more than enough AR to make lvl 19 fracs. If you start from the bottom, you won´t be of much help at all in your first runs if your friends are experienced fractal runners doing 30 fracs anyway.
There is also the grindy way of making ls2 for ascended gear and not only rings. It´s repetitive and boring, but it´s not time gated.

SO making it short:

You’ll need Laurels and Karma for the Inscriptions/Insignia and the Armor pieces recipe (head/shoulder/chest/gloves/leggings/shoes)

You’ll need Dragonite Ingots, Boodstone Bricks and Emperyal Things (refinable with Obsidian shards)
You’ll need spirit shards (former Skill points) for augur stones
This creates Vision Crystals

You’ll need thermocatalithic reagents (a LOT), and some crystaline dust and ecto’s

You can make Damask/Deldrimor Steel/Elonian Leather/Spiritwood at crafting level 450 start whenever possible. The prerequisite material is timegated, but you can circumvent it.:
If you haven’t got enough TP will sel them for 13-14.5 gold, 4.5 – 5 gold, 2 gold and 4.5 – 5 gold respectively.

Make the parts you need.

You’ll need some Dark Matter attainable by salvaging EXOTICS (IF you have all stuff for an armor Salvaging your armor will supply you the Dark matter most likely, but I’d suggest salving some lvl >80’s for dark matter to be sure to have enough. )

Just to complete it you need an exotic insciption/insignia to make the ascended one, for weapons this will mean you need a deldrimor steel dowel (inscrition) or you’ll need 3 damask (insignia)…to finish your inscription/insignia.

If you need other stats either

• buy all recipe’s for the specific stat
  OR
• use the newly crafted/aquired Ascended with the wrong stats or or any other ascended from box or drop and buy the anthology of heroes item at Miyani, the exotic inscription relevant ot the stats you want it turned into and 5 ecto’s…
  And Armor and Weapons boxes are very worthwhile, especially with the ability to change stats through “The Toilet”

Enjoy your ascendeds

Dragonite ore drops from any World BOSS low levels 3-5, dragons 20-25 Temples 30, TEQ 30 TT 30, Also drops from keep and castle lords in WvW
Emperyal fragments drop from dungeon paths (20/EXPLORABLE path) or JP’s (1-5)
Bloodstone durst drops from every champion bag…..

Excess Ore, fragments and dust can be eaten by Princess, Emperyal Star and Mawdrey II..

I wanted to put together a really nice set of counter-statements to your Rant, and then I figured out it was just a Rant. The theory you put about the people who don’t have that much time to play? They’re there so you can add weight to your argument. “Think of the Casuals!”
But at the end of the post – with some critical thinking – it’s a rant. You want High Level Fractals (Is that 30+? 40+?) but you don’t give your level. If the Casuals in your post are in the same boat as you, as you put them there, do they have time for more than 1 Run a Night? So if they never did Fractals (So Level 1) they need to get to Level 29 – That’s 28 days. That’s a month. You’re lumping Ascended Crafting – AR – Fractals – and the Casuals together into a soup of “I need this changed to suit my poorly expressed needs!”
If in the end Crafting is the issue? It’s not that long at the station. If you follow a Guide (Which are better than ever) you can have 400/450/500 knocked out in nothing flat. Click – Combine – No Guess Work.
The material cost is already high enough
Iron out the nature of your problem – Look within for answers – and come back with a clearly expressed problem that the community might give you the insight to solve. Until then? Take a deep breath. Find your real problem. Strip away the hypothetical people which add “Appeal to Emotion” to your words.
And just say what’s really wrong.

Why isn’t there a reliable way to kill really hard monsters and be guaranteed to gradually get ascended armor as opposed to crafting? (Maybe bosses drop a currency that can be exchanged for Ascended Armor?)

well they drop armor weapon boxes so there is another way. ( sadly not guarenteed )

Time-Gated is awesome. Best thing is, you can play as you want and still get everything in no time (just do login 30 days for celestial gear is less then 1h overall).

If you have problems crafting/logging in or anything else, you can just buy the most ascended stuff from tp for just some gold. Lot’s of casuals and me love it to get your gold for just some ascended easy obtainable stuff

You can bypass the timegated materials for most ascended stat combos by buying them on the TP.

My “Real” problem(s) are that I do not like the feeling of being put between a Rock and a Hardplace, and that situation is, being relevant in terms of Armor/Weapon/Trinkets ect. and Total Stats gain from gear, and catching up to my friends who I enjoy being with and playing the game along side of, these friends having already amassed 6+ sets…

After reading your responses, and as I said, I’ve been gone from the game for several months if not longer (Left when they first introduced Ascended crafting.) I did not know of ways outside of making it myself, where possible! If I knew that I could just buy the parts, and remove the 25+ days of making them myself, I would have! Now, that I know that I can buy the Timegated mats off the TP, or have a chance of getting them from Drops, it has taken a load off my shoulders in my attemp to catch up to my friends and guildies.

So I am guessing my best bet is to join in on the Silverwastes train (Events/Chests) in the hopes of getting them from drops/chests, or getting the gold to buy the Timegated stuff from the TP, am I right? Are there any other ways to obtain Ascended gear that removes me from being stuck behind the Timegate wall, or is what I already listed pretty much it?

It only coast slightly more to buy from TP directly. The only item you probably save money is from damask.

You can try asking your guildmates or friends to craft damask for you.

You can also sell damask everyday after you finish with your set. So dont’ make much difference if you buy now and start selling damask everyday after you are finish.

Yea, Silverwastes is the way to go. If you were to acquire an ascended weapon/armor box you could definitely convert it to the stats you need but this method is so unreliable that you’re better off not depending on it.

Silverwastes will drop materials you need for crafting, or you can just sell them if you don’t wish to wait.

And start putting in buy orders for some of the time gated stuff you need (damask, deldrimor, etc) with excess gold so you can do your farming as those orders fill up. Make them a bit lower than other buy orders. You don’t want to be stuck with enough gold to buy stuff and then having to fill out buy orders and having to wait lest you purchase those at the more expensive sell price.

I am going to say for 1 stop being selfish. It is no ones fault you took time off to deal with Real Life or play other games. Never said I DIDN’T want to work for it, just didn’t want to put up with it being a Time-gated thing, but now that I know that I can get it through drops and buying the mats off the TP, I can do it, and put in the work/effort associated with it.

Don’t worry too much about the non constructive posts in your thread just make your ASCENDEDS..
