Remove armor weight restrictions?
Would be better to just allow the transmutation stones to cross armor types rather than allow classes to wear all types of armor. Heavy armor actually has more defense than light, so everyone would just use heavy armor in the end, kind of defeating the purpose.

I would vote against this. At least keep light/medium/heavy unique in some way. Makes it somewhat easier to identify a class quickly in pvp too.

Which is in the same vein as my edit that just suggests a new crystal that allows cross-armor transmutations. It’s more likely to become true if there’s more financial incentive for it, after all.

Valid point, I don’t PvP so I have no idea how useful being able to identify another player’s class would be, but would a reasonable compromise be to only allow it in PvE/WvW (since we already have two sets of armor for PvP and PvE/WvW)? It wouldn’t be that important in the former and the latter seems to largely be dominated by zergs where picking out individual targets based on their clothing seems difficult.
I won’t accept so large bulky plate armor as “light”. But sometimes light vs medium armor isn’t as apparent. In reality it’s cloth vs leather vs metal. However some light armor is a lot of cloth while some medium is barely any leather. So it’s weight of the material used and not the weight of the outfit.

Actually it DOES make sense. No bonus? Really?
Lighter Armor itself doesn’t give a bonus, but the profession mechanics/skills make up for it already. Clones/Stealth/Boons are all there for you to use. Why should armor give any other advantage other than more damage reduction anyway. Active Defense is far better than Passive.
Maybe have movement speed associated with each armor weight, plus three levels of weight and speed for each group of armor. So nine armor weight and movement speed total. Is this enough to help offset the damage mitigation given?
As far as skins go this might not be such a bad idea, and would allow for greater customization… however, if you were to also take the defense rating into account, I can see the uproar clear as crystal. Anyone with exotic/ascended would feel completely cheated because suddenly the equipment they have is obsolete due to heavy having the highest armor rating and they’ve spent hard earned resources making armor in their weight class. I’d support the possibility of skin changes, but not the armor class itself. It’d cause too many problems.

Everyone got boons, both Warrior and Guardian can have many boons, Both have also better healing than ele, also better dmg than ele, so whats ele better than those 2??(don’t tell me 10 more skills makes the difference).

Ele is among the highest DPS in the game. Pls go watch 5 Ele, 7-second Lupicus kill.

I’d like to see a warrior or guardian come close to ele when it comes to damage.

Tbh, the ascended light armor looks like a heavy one (female human). However I would not enjoy seeing Warriors in robes etc. I would vote against you sorry. It just doesn’t fit. Too much freedom and the game becomes worse. As for weapons, image a warrior with a scepter or a engineer with a staff or bow… really?
offtopic:
The highest direct damage clearly is dealt by the ele, wich is known by those who really care. Many warriors (and sadly for those who aren’t like this) are jerks who see a big fat number from 100b and think they deal awesome dps, then there are even more stupid players who think they deal with a chain attack 5k, 10k, 15k, etc per hit… in the end how much damage someone deals depends on the allies he has aswell the enemies. Passive damage is also something that gets forgotten too often.

I could totally see a warrior with a scepter – using it like a club, jump-bashing people in the face while screaming “MAGIC MISSILE!”
In a more serious note, maybe some restrictions would be acceptable? Like only allow Heavy <→ Medium and Medium <→ Light transmutations? That gives Soldier characters who trait toward glass cannon builds the option to look like the agile scrappers that they are; or Scholars who trait toward melee (s/f mesmers, d/d necros, etc.) to dress like they don’t intend to stay in the back all the time; or Adventurers who trait toward survivability to slap on a little extra armor.

This is on a elite skill on a conjure (maybe bugged) that has 180 seconds cooldown, are we serious now?
And btw i want to see u how are you going to deal that massive dmg on pvp against real targets.

Ele still has higher damage without the conjure. There used to be a tier list floating around. I believe ele was either 1 or 2 for damage in ideal situations (using staff). Warrior was 6th.
Otherwise, I would appreciate that option. In wvw and spvp unless someone is wearing an iconic cultural set, the armor doesn’t do much to help me identifiy them. Most of the time it is either the target bar or class abilities that make the difference. While armor can help to narrow the type of classes it often doesn’t help at all, asura for instance, and the other two come into play (target bar/abilities). I don’t think it would be too big of an issue to allow armor type to cross each other as long as the actual armor value is kept the same on each class.
This concept of armor class has also kind of been broken with hellfire/radiant.

Personally, the differences between the armours is fairly small in the grand scheme of things and I don’t see why they don’t just remove the armour difference all together and make it a pure aesthetic choice.
You can build light armour bunkers than can withstand more damage than a character in heavy armour, so why bother putting such arbitrary limits on armour anyway? Or why not provide some kind of counter balance, such as increased mobility, on the lighter armours? The lines are so blurred by skills, traits and attribute points that having different armour values just seems pointless to me.
I also don’t see the point in limiting armour types to each profession. Surely Anet would make more money from the gem store if players could choose any armour type for their character. For example, a lot of players only have one character, but if they do not like the medium armour option of a gem store armour set, they will not buy it, but if they like the heavy armour set, that’s an extra sale for Anet.
But hey, I’m no game developer, so what do I know.

How do you explain necro? If armor/hp is passive, then DS(extra hp) is passive also.
I don’t think removing armor is good at this point of the game. But not having trinity while having different armor classes is just stupid. Heavy armor classes have better armor but still have many of active defenses. A guardian can have how many block/dodge skills? 6+ in a lupi battle. While some light classes have so little armor and so few active defense.

Instead of removing the tier lists, why don’t we just “fuse” them a bit? The armor has different stats on a light, medium or heavy armor type character. There are still the common light, medium and heavy armors, but now new: there should be hybrids:
*L*ight armor
*M*edium armor
*H*eavy armor
LM armor
MH armor
LH armor
LHM armor
The armor class is defined by the materials you are mainly wearing.

I guess I know what Tier list that was. It was the single target DpS tier list in a perfect situation, and it was pretty much this:
1. Mesmer (with 3 iSwordman)
2. Thief
3. Ele
4. Ranger
5. Guard
6. Warrior
7. Necro
8. Engineer

I would be in support of being able to transmute armor types for looks. Stats would of course need to correspond to the proper armor class, but the look is the look.
If they release a special transmutation crystal only available in gem store that would allow this I would likely buy several of them. Preferably it would be free, but what can you do.. They have to make moneh, it’s strictly a cosmetic thing.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Give heavier armor sets a penalty and let everyone wear everything.
There’s no reason to follow D&D crap in 2014.
I would vote against this. At least keep light/medium/heavy unique in some way. Makes it somewhat easier to identify a class quickly in pvp too.
Looking at someone’s armour is the last thing I do when i determine their class such as the colour of their spells or a the class icons.
