PvE can get very boring when you have max level characters and less incentive to play the end-game PvE contents that you may like (which can be just 1 or 2 types) due to the daily cap on the rewards you can get if you repeat the same event/game-mode again. Perhaps a player is only interested in one or two game modes in PvE and is discouraged from continuously playing those game modes due to the reduced rewards and then feels like there is no other thing to do in PvE to keep him in the game.

For example, if I love fractals, why can’t the same maximum rewards be given to me even if I repeat the same fractals again and again for any level? Putting a daily cap on certain levels getting bonus rewards discourages a player from playing other levels because it might be seen as a waste of time and less rewarding. This player then leaves the game after doing the daily fractals because perhaps none other PvE content interests him.

The same applies for world bosses. Perhaps a player loves going on a world boss train for the entire day but doesn’t do it because the rewards are capped at once per day so after he completes the train once, he leaves the game because no other modes interests him.

Removing the daily caps will allow players to not feel short-changed or discouraged by lesser rewards when repeating the game mode that they love in PvE. Not everyone loves to do varied PvE contents for all the dailies. Perhaps some only prefer to do dungeons, or raids only, or fractals only etc. Putting a daily rewards bonus cap discourages players from repeating the game mode that they love because there is that implied sense that you are better off spending your time elsewhere for better rewards.

Among the problems with a cap-less game are that too many people end up gravitating to the easiest content with the most rewards. We saw that with Auric Basin multi-map looting and we see it with the Fractal 40 farm, the Lake Doric turret farm, and Silverwastes. That’s good for those only interested in farming and bad for the overall health of the game.

Another problem in games without these sort of limits is that some people tend to burn out more quickly. We’ve seen this with people who get too focused on getting max levels and max gear, who forgot to smell the orchids along the way. I’m sure they had fun in their brief time. All the same, it’s better for the community overall if people were slower to reach their limit.

Diminishing Returns & Caps are indeed designed to discourage people from doing the same thing over & over. Sure, some people will do their “daily” routine and leave. And more people who enjoy the game will diversify. Or at least, one presumes that’s what ANet’s data shows.

In other words, it’s a small price to pay so that the game is more better for more people for more time.

I’d really like if the loot from w4 cm’s got reset every week.
