So a friend sent a question to the support team and got this in reply:

“In the past, there was a similar issue with Order of the Whispers skins that were acquired by players who were not a part of the Order of Whispers. When the issue was resolved, all items that had these skins applied on characters that should not be able to receive them were wiped and the skins were lost. Any items that are currently benefiting from this issue will likely see a similar resolution with the unintended skin being removed from the character and unrecoverable. Taking part in this issue would see the risk of losing your items.”

TL;DR. Cross-order/character equipment transmutation will be removed as it isn’t intended. All of your items transmuted this way will be removed and no way to recover.

Maybe they were talking about the order gear that was improperly available through random items that just happened to share the skin. Those skins were changed, which caused anyone using them to have their skin reverted to the changed model.

Answers from support is second hand information.

Actually, instead of the item description saying they are soulbound after transmuting them, they are now account bound. Why to fix something they would be removing?

If they were to remove this feature it would be one of the stupidest moves by any mmo ever.

It is the only thing that made being unable to join other orders after endgame even reasonable.

Also a lot of people have put a lot of gold into buying order armor and transmuting it over onto other toons based on the fact that ANet themselves changed the tag from “soulbound” to “accountbound” for such armor, giving the impression they were fine with this feature.

I am hoping and assuming that ANet is reasonably intelligent and will not change this and that the either support or the person who sent the ticket in got mixed up between “order” armor and “cultural” armor. As far as I know, there has never been a previous revert to “whispers armor,” as the reply hinted, but there has been an earlier issue and change to “cultural” armor.
