Is it safe to leave them unopened for a while? I don’t want to clutter my bags too much and I want to clear maps as quickly as possible, so can I leave chests and such that appear above the map to be clicked unopened?

Same question with WvW Rank chests.

If not, please explain why.

I never leave them unopened for more than a few minutes, but I know at least with the CoF bonus chest that it does carry through zones. I have had mine bug out in CoF and exited the dungeon and opened it there with no issues.

You can have 4 reward chests queued up before the game will automatically open them upon map change, etc. I am only assuming leveling rewards act the same.
