Renown Hearts/Hero challenges/Daily System
I think a set of static quest (aka hearts) is healthy for the game. A bunch of them are really really dumb, I agree, but I enjoyed them anyway. There is no reason why they couldn’t co-exist with the more serendipituous dynamic events.
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

Unpopular opinion: I actually like Hearts for leveling because they are always there (unlike events) and they also tend to give more exp than events. However, I don’t think I want them as repeatable dailies…

with the exception of your main story quests.. this game isn’t meant to have quests. It was designed entirely around the dynamic event system instead. Hearts go against that philosophy and never should have been a part of the game. GW2 was supposed to be about a living dynamic world, not static quests.
I like doing the hearts so my vote is for them to stay.
In a living dynamic world I’m sure there should be repetitive labors to do. Also when something repeats itself enough, it becomes routine too: events that happen every 10 minutes aren’t that different from static quests.
I still don’t see how the “heart quests” are detrimental to the game. On the contrary, I think they add more life to it, by creating a contrasting landscape of familiar minor characters who live a less adventurous life than the protagonist.

I just think it’s a waste to have content the player only accesses once per character. I was thinking further on this. The commune ones could give a random once a day boon. The fight ones could be a once a day rematch and they could have the NPC say “I had this left over from ____, enjoy it” gifting you a random item from a out of season holiday event. These would give the player a reason and ability to redo them plus give the player a chance to get an off-season item.
So the personal story would be a waste?
The point is hearts were not a part of the original vision Arenanet had for Guild Wars 2. In fact they go against that original vision. They were added late in development as a compromise/training wheels for people who couldn’t grasp how to explore on their own and find events.
We don’t need them anymore, and adding to them in any way, reinforcing them as a system in the game by making them repeatables or dailies or whatever, would encourage making more hearts in future zones, something I really don’t want to see, they make world completion a hassle as it is. Instead of just exploring and finding things in the zone you have to grind in a circle or stealth up to flags or some other boring chore.
I’m not missing them in Maguuma areas.
Although I do like that in Maguuma areas the combat oriented hero points are repeatable and give rewards that encourage people helping out on them.
But if I had any say in the matter, no more hearts, ever, and if I had more say, I’d remove hearts from all zones over level 25. Ideally, we wouldn’t need them in any zones but if people need training wheels for the first zone or 2, whatever. It was an unfortunate compromise that had to be made because everquest and WoW had trained people into looking for NPC’s with symbols over their heads to tell them what to do.
There’s no reason why they have to be boring or a grind, especially if additional tiers were added. They could be more stimulating content for higher level players.

They are boring. Stationary chores are not fun, and they don’t belong in GW2.

Like most events other than escorts?
