Replay old living story seasons
I agree in principle but I’d say creating a new server isn’t an elegant solution.
The old storyinstances and cutscenes should be accessible by majory’s journal (or something like that).
EU Elona Reach – Void Sentinels
Replay old story.
What I’d really like to see is something like the Heroes Handbook or the Bonus Mission Pack books from GW1. Each page contains a short summary of events in one part of the Living Story and has a button that takes you to that section. That way you’ve got both a way of repeating it as desired and a way of knowing easily what order content goes in.
It’d have to be instanced but maybe they could make it a shared instance like the ‘tutorial’ zones, because a lot of content is intended for large groups. Alternatively adjust the scaling so it can be played solo or as a 5 man team.
They’d also have to do something to make it quicker to play through, it wouldn’t be practical as a catch-up if each part took 2 weeks. But then a lot of the time consuming elements were achievements that required you to repeat something many times or do it in different ways. If they removed the achievements it would also have the benefit (?) of giving people an incentive to play the content the first time around. (This would also make it easier for Anet because they’d only need instanced copies of the areas relevant to the story instead of things like everywhere that had holograms during Dragon Bash.)
They could also exclude things like the holiday events and Super Adventure Box which come back periodically anyway since new players can still access them. Storyline relevant sections of festival updates (like the Dragon Bash murder investigation) would still be included.
However they do it I’d love to see it for 2 reasons:
1) I want to play it again, because I really enjoyed most of it and I’d like to remind myself of the story, focusing on the bits I’m interested in.
2) It’s the major reason my husband doesn’t want to play GW2 at the moment – he says he’s missed so much now there’s no point starting.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I agree with the sentiment, if not the specific implementation. I haven’t been super thrilled with the quality of most Living Story content so far, but honestly, if I hadn’t missed big chunks that I can never catch up on, I doubt I would have dropped out of it entirely. And the bits that I did like, I’d love to be able to back to, or experience with new characters in the same manner that I can do the Personal Story with all my alts.
A new server that releases things on the same time table just reboots the problem for the current players, without eliminating it for future players.
It seems that people are for the idea of playing old content but not having a new server for it. My reasoning for wanting a new server is that some of the living story content is open world and requires a large number of people. Having a server dedicated to the old content would hopefully draw enough people to be able to finish the content. I’m not too keen on scaled down versions of things as it seems a lot less epic.
What I was envisioning was a few years down the line most servers would be on the most recent season of the living story while there would be one or two servers reliving each of the previous seasons.
Mainly like others I would just like a chance to play some of the content that I missed and replay some stuff that I enjoyed.
