Representing and guild management
You’re allowed to have 5 guilds, don’t expect (or force) people to only play in yours.
I allow everyone in my guild to represent whichever guild they want to. After all, my guildies are my friends. I am not going to kick friends just because they have fun somewhere else.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
if you create a fun place to be and do a decent amount of stuff they will rep and only rep other guild when doing another facet of the game like pvp. i would never join a guild where they require 100 percent cause i know there wil be a reason not to at some point. if guild chats a ghost town ill leave such guild for one thats not even if i know they are on ts or some other form of communication.i hate running extra programs to play a game. a guild that doesnt at least do some events wont have me in them. events are what get people to play together and relating to each other. the rep will come if they want to rep you and enjoy their time here no need to force rep if you force they may regret joining you in the first place and if they regret joining they may stay til they find a better guild out there. being a guild leader can be a lot of work and if your not wiling to do a lot of work and delegate a lot of work your probably not going to have a good guild. a guild of friend will be a lot less work if they enjoy being there talking with friends. a guild is more for building friends then actual gaming unless your super elite and even then im sure your going to make friends

I hope more guild leaders are like you.

As a guild leader / officer I don’t mind that my members have other guilds. When we are doing events, which is fairly often I’ll whisper them to let them know that we are actively doing something. By fostering a fun community, with TS, web site etc. It’s my hope that they would rep with us most of the time.
It sounds very interesting to hear your views! Thanx! I am still wondering though. If some people always represent while others only represent when we do guild missions for example. Isn’t that unfair to the people who generate the influence?
I mean it kinda sounds like loafing if you only represent for the guild missions.
What do you guys think?

Some guilds are not big enough to run the missions with the members they have and need “supplemental” members. That is where the ‘guild mission only’ members are useful. Some guilds recruit just for that and have a membership type for those individuals.
So, it depends.
It would be nice if they were full time members but sometimes you have to work with what you have.
I personally don’t like people being in more than one guild, but I understand the appeal and the perks. However, what I really want is a “last logged in/repped”. In a large guild, it is hard to remember every single person, so it’s hard to get rid of the hermits.
I personally wish that there weren’t multiple guilds… It makes managing a guild more difficult than it needs to be.
I don’t like the “more guilds” and “representing” stuff. I like the whole idea of it.
Right now, guilds end up with decent number of players but alot of them are not representing ever and half of the guild is offfline with no knowledge for how long that peple haven’t played.
If we had “Last online” and “Last represented” we would know who our loyal people were and could just get rid of the players who never represent and players who don’t play gw2 on more. No point having them in guild and wasting slots.
And so far I haven’t heard of people that are being very active in multiple guilds.
Guilds right now in gw2 feel more like a group of people you’ve met once and you forget about them but just in case something goes wrong with your trusted group you have backup.
I’d rather have guild alliances which would expand possibility of people with same interests grouping together.

Guilds should be managed in whatever way seems best by their leaders.
If they want a more open guild where people can rep as they please whenever they please, then run your guild accordingly.
If you want your members to rep all the time, run it that way.
The guild I am in requires 100% repping. Not only does it help with influence, it helps us communicate with everyone and foster a friendly community atmosphere. It is really hard to communicate with members and bond as a family when members are not repping.
If our guild is not meeting the requirements of a member, I encourage them to go to another if that is what they choose, no hard feelings. Everyone is here to have fun and everyone has fun in different ways and has different needs.
If members are repping other guilds, there must be a reason. There must be something that this guild isn’t doing or providing for them that the other is. Maybe another guild is a better fit for them.
Not every guild is for every person. Find one that fits you. Or multiple guilds if that is your thing. Run your guild the way you want to run it.
Oh, and our guild is around 400 members but only about 60 are currently active every day.
That means about only 15% of our guild is active currently. A lot of the members may have moved on from the game by now. Hard to tell with the tools available to guilds.
As the guild leader, I don’t care if people rep all the time. I appreciate it (easier to in-game communicate, added influence gain), but at the same time I think of the guild itself as more like my kid – it doesn’t need the entire community to support it as long as I do. Being a relatively small guild, the slower influence gain is usually helped by the fact that it is a good group of people that I know, who have been known to throw all their market-playing money into commendations because they “felt bad for not playing in a long time.”
Things I love:
- Ability to rename ranks, set what each person can do, and the symbol for each rank.
If people wan’t to focus on something (like WvW), they are open to find a guild that does without abandoning mine for other things (such as PvE) - Still a decent selection/combination set for the guild emblem
- Tells info on lv/class/etc for players recently/currently logged in
Things I’d like to see added/changed:
- More ways of displaying the guild emblem (capes were great for this in GW1, but at least have more styles of guild armor so we can still be unique among our armor brackets -aka I would something besides scale under my tabbard at this point)
- A channel to talk/hear guild-chat from all guilds (instead of just currently rep’d)
- Last log-in (and rep’d, for those who care about rep’in)
- Better MOTD features – allowing editing of MOTD without deleting the other and starting from scratch, MOTD being displayed upon logging in for whichever guild is currently rep’d are both things that would make it more useful IMO.
- A guild version of the Commander tag, so people can find guild leaders more easily (for events and gatherings)
That’s you know, just to list a few things :P

I really want the ability to use guild chat with status offline so i dont get the constant “why are you not representing our guild?” well this is why because i paid the same for gw2 as them.
Thanx for the input, I agree with you guys that we need more info about the members such as “last online” and “last represented”. It would also be nice if message of the day would be more “in-your-face” when you log on and its changed. It’s my experience that no one reads or can even find it now.
We have also put more effort in our guild to expand possibilities and provide everyone with what they are looking for in a guild.
I require absolute 100% rep time in my guild. No excuses and members are required to do what I say when I say. They are also required to contribute gold during each session they are online. But it's just me in my personal bank guild so it's never a problem. ....

It doesn’t really work like that. Players are lazy. Unless you can supply a player with everything they want (which is pretty much impossible) they ditch you for a guild that can supply them with more, which only the mega-guilds we have today can supply.
Most of the people in my guild haven’t repped for over 3 months. We got all the way to unlocking puzzles and everyone gave up.
I don’t want to leave due to all the hard work that went into it, but I feel silly being one of the only people ever online and representing.
peasants had no bread and who responded: “Let them eat brioche.”
I allow anyone in my guild to represent anyone they want…because this is a game…not a job. People play games to have fun.
I try to make the guild a fun place to be, and those who like what we do usually do represent. Some people have very good reason for representing other guilds at different times. For example, we don’t do much WvW, but some people like it. So they have a WvW guild. Why should I care? Why should their WvW play give me influence?
I’d say 90 plus percent of my guild represents 90% of the time….but even in the past when that wasn’t happening, it was fine. We still got enough influence to do what we needed with those who did represent.
Edit: Maybe it’s because I see the guild is serving the members, I don’t see the members as serving the guild.

There are plenty of guilds who let you rep just for guild missions. There are even guilds whose sole purpose is to do guild missions, and it only makes sense to rep while doing those misions.
Similarly, my server runs temple clearing events every Saturday, and there’s a guild that was made just for those events.
Similarly, there are tons of single-purpose guilds like the above (WvW, bank storage etc). This guild system offers a lot of convenience.
It doesn’t really work like that. Players are lazy. Unless you can supply a player with everything they want (which is pretty much impossible) they ditch you for a guild that can supply them with more, which only the mega-guilds we have today can supply.

maybe thats why i prefer a smaller guild i only have two guild and one for my personal storage so i dont rep it i buy influence for it through gold ive earned. the other is a small guild and they are still unlocking stuff but are a great group of people i prefer to being with over a large guild that you hardly know anyone. there is only one person in the guild i met before gw2 and hes the one who convinced me to join. i left a guild that had all unlocked they were too big and too antipersonal. i think thats what happened with your guild it got too big and people dont really feel like they belong anymore. if i dont like the atmosphere i wont stay but if i can have fun with a smal group of people i wil stay. so i must be the opposite of what you say i left a guild that could supply me with everything and went to a guild that working on the stuff but is more fun due to we became a closer group of people and yes we are growing we have doubled membership in the last month

and your guild would probably be one id enjoy if i didnt like mine so much… so many guilds think they have to go big or nothing but its the smaller guilds that give me more reason to play… if it wasnt for my guild i probably would have quit 3 to 4 months ago
Personally I think it’s the worst idea since daily quests. It wouldn’t be so bad except for the fact that Anet decided to add guild reputation and rewards. Because of that, nobody, and I mean nobody, wants to join a new guild. If your guild doesn’t have max rewards and reputation, chances are that they will be representing another guild that does have that stuff 99% of the time. They should’ve just left it as one guild per character and added a guild alliance system where you could have alliances with other guilds.
It’s not the games fault if your players aren’t representing.
And if you don’t know who your loyal players are, what sort of guild are you running?
